Pittendrum is situated just outside the small fishing village of Sandhaven with its historic harbour. Seals, whales and dolphins as well as rare sea birds can commonly be seen. Sandhaven in turn is just outside the small fishing port Fraserburgh. Attractions withing Fraserburgh include a long sandy beach which has hosted the Scottish surfing championships and the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses which includes Scotland's very first lighthouse which was created in an old castle.

It is rumoured that Pittendrum House was built on the remains of a medieval castle and Pittendrum House is built in the style of an old tower house but with a Georgian twist. Nearby are the ruins of several castles including Pitsligo Castle and even lived in castles like the Castle of Philorth.

Fraserburgh harbour is still bustling with many boats amd furher along there is a Victorian beach esplanade.
