This individual, contemporary, open-plan property was once a hen house! It now offers comfortable and spacious accommodation and is ideally located to explore the three counties of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The surrounding area has much to offer; whether your interest is in sight seeing, outdoor activities, the arts, or sampling the delights of the local food, there is something for everyone. About Nicki Vizor

Married, and both my husband and I work from home. The Hen House is in the grounds of our property.

Having bought a house that needed modernising, and wanting to live on site, my husband was adament he could convert this former, uninspiring chicken shed into somewhere to live.

We loved living in the hen house and everyone was amazed at how light and spacious it was, so we decided to rent it out for others to enjoy.

We have enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life; artists, actors and musicians have all enjoyed the space, as well as walkers and those looking for a comfortable, peaceful retreat where they can lock the door and get away from it all.

What makes this barn unique

Whether you are looking for a romantic bolt hole, somewhere quiet to work or study, or as a base for exploring the local area the Hen House offers spacious, light and airy accommodation in a peaceful, rural environment.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What an amazing place the Hen House is, we are so glad to have found it. You made us so welcome and straight away we felt at home.

Gorgeous conversion and really quite inspirational. I could so live here.

A lovely retreat to recharge our batteries. What lovely touches on our arrival; freshly baked bread, wine, flapjacks and flowers from the garden.

Characterful, comfortable and spacious in a most serene and peaceful environment

We wanted to get away for just a couple of nights so the 2 hour drive from Hampshire to The Hen House was perfect. It was exactly as described and more and so beautifully decorated and furnished with quirky items of furniture together with contemporary pieces making it extremely comfortable. The king size bed with its crisp, pure white cotton bed linen and feather pillows, draped with throws and cushions made it feel so luxurious, we had the perfect night’s sleep. Johnnie’s sour dough bread and Nicki’s flapjacks were a real treat.....thank you both for a beautiful stay, we will definitely return in the warmer weather to do lots more walking and exploring of the local area.

Hen's House is in a wonderful location and is really spacious. We had a lovely relaxing and peaceful holiday.

Nicki and Jonny were wonderful hosts and the little extras of homemade bread, fresh eggs and locally produced apple juice was a lovely surprise.

An off the beaten track hidden gem ....

  • 5 of 5

Nicki and Johnnie are wonderful hosts who ensured that our stay at the Hen House was very special. This hidden rural retreat is surrounded by stunning views in the countrylanes of Gloucestershire, providing a wonderful base from which to explore the surrounding area. The Hen House has everything you could possibly want for a very comfortable stay ... It is immaculately kept with real attention to detail and a quirky/ arty feel which gives one a sense of space, light and well-being. On arrival we were treated to homemade flapjacks and bread, plus freshly laid eggs and this set the tone for our stay as nothing was too much trouble for Nicki and Johnnie who went out of their way to make us feel completely at home. Thank you for a fabulous few days - we highly recommend the Hen House, an off the beaten track hidden gem!
