About Pauline Robinson

Peter and Pauline Robinson. Very friendly people who take pride in our holiday cottage. We are there at weekends to make sure everything is up to standard.

60% of our bookings are people who return often.

Pauline Robinson purchased this cottage in 1999

Why Pauline Robinson chose Whitby

We bought our other cottage, next door, in 1982 as we love the location. My husband is a steam train enthusiast and I love the large garden and open views of the countryside. It is an idyllic location peaceful and relaxing with no passing traffic. It is an ideal base for touring the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and close to the heritage coast.

What makes this cottage unique

Walks from the back door. Views of the steam trains powering up the line. A variety of birds feeding on the table in the garden. Very pleasant large garden surrounded by open 'heartbeat' countryside.

Guestbook comments from the owner

' There isn't a word in the dictionary to describe this wonderful place. I wish we could stay forever. The children want to live here.'

' Our 6th time here and just as special as the first time. Still discovering more walks and birds. We'll be back.'

Tranquil location, a real get away from it all cottage

  • 3 of 5

The cottage is very quaint, like stepping back in time. Everything included to make you feel at home away from home. The location is very peaceful but you definitely need a car to venture further afield. A great base for exploring the area.

Owner's Response: A car is indeed useful for exploring the wider area of the National Park and the Heritage Coast but there are many scenic walks accessible from the back door. A folder of routes is provided. Nearby, Grosmont has a main line station as well as the steam train to either Pickering or Whitby.

Good views. Nice character cottage.

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed staying in the area, though if there is snow about as we had, travelling can be tricky. There's a very steep descent to the cottage in Esk valley. The coast is 20-30 mins away but there are also walks aplenty. There is lots of bumpf to read about things to do at the cottage. There's little to fault tge place but the heating systems needs updating. Would love to return in the warmer months.

Owner's Response: It is a tricky area in the snow but spectacular. There is no mains gas in the valley so we have to use electric storage heaters.and convectors.

unique

  • 4 of 5

Unique location, be advised that the access road is 1 in 3! Great to see steam trains so close and so often.

Pauline and Peter could not have been more helpful when we had car, and later oven, troubles. Very welcoming.

Owner's Response: Unique location. This setting is not only special for it's passing steam trains but also open views, wildlife and walks Walk to Goathland ( TV's Heartbeat Aidensfield ) from back door of cottage. Close proximity to many of the North Yorkshire Moors attractions. Whitby 6 miles. Access road is not an issue. It's only a normal road down into the valley. This is a very popular cottage with many guests making return visits every year to enjoy their special place. We aim to please and enjoy seeing the reaction of new guests as well as welcoming old friends.

Trains walks and country cottage

  • 4 of 5

Loved the cottage with steam trains running right by the side. It was great seeing them, listening to them and riding in them. Walking straight from the cottage was good too, plenty of choice. A short drive away was plenty more to see and do as well. An area well worth visiting and if you go in August there is the added attraction of the heather in full bloom on the moors. I would recommend Mallard cottage and the area to anyone.
