Beautiful barn, gorgeous area and a very lovely holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a very lovely week-long stay at the Barn in Shapwick. The Barn itself is beautiful, spotless, fitted out to a very high standard, with all mod-cons, and Andrew and Helen welcoming and attentive hosts.

The beds are comfortable, the bathroom is lovely and the kitchen well-stocked with equipment - we were able to cook proper meals very easily. We weren't very lucky with the weather, but we were warm and cosy in the Barn.

The area is packed with things to do, particularly if you are into your wildlife and history. Despite the rain, we had some great walks on the Levels - plenty of birds and beautiful scenery. We had lovely days in Wells and Dorchester, and we entertained our various parents with trips to The Fleet Air Arm Museum and more birding.

If you aren't in the mood to cook, there are plenty of places to eat, including The Sheppey - very near by and a bit of a surprise - won't tell you more other than the food was delicious and exciting and it's well worth a visit.

We'd definitely recommend the Barn in Shapwick to anyone as a place to spend a holiday, and there's every possibility we'll go back again next year.

Thank you to Andrew and Helen!

Our holiday in Shapwick at the house from Andrew and Helen was perfect.

After a warm welcome Andrew showed us the wonderful house. Everything so clean and tidy and lovely decorated. We really enjoyed our stay there.

We can definitely recommend the property.

wonderful, relaxing and cosy.

  • 5 of 5

The Barn has been lovingly restored by Andrew & Helen. It is in an idyllic spot close to many attractions in Somerset and North Devon. We are a family of four including 2 young children and found the barn and all the furnishings luxurious, clean and comfortable.

We would love to stay again as there is so much to see and explore!

Perfect Property, Perfect Hosts, Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

Thoroughly enjoyed out recent stay here and really wished we had booked for 2 weeks instead of 1. So much to do and see in the area and even though the weather wasn't on our side, we didn't let it stop us.

The property was perfect for us....very clean, had everything we needed and more, lots of added little touches you wouldn't usually find in a holiday property. Loved the individual under floor hearing in each room and the large shower area made it super easy to wash a messy toddler. We felt immediately at home and our little ones loved the glass over looking the lounge - waving and shouting hello every time they were upstairs! The bi-fold doors were a real treat, we had them open during the stuffy evenings, listening to the rain...so peaceful and relaxing!

We visited Puxton farm, Wooky hole, Longleat, Clarkes shopping village and Cheddar Forge - all highly recommended.

Andrew and Helen were extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Even presenting myself and my partner with an Engagement card after a surprise proposal at Cheddar Gorge on our last day - so thoughtful!

A holiday to remember and we will definitely be recommending the property and area to friends and family!!

We hope to see you again in the future :-)

A great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We like this holiday home so much we came back a second time. Our hosts Andrew and Helen could not be any friendlier, more genuine or more helpful if they tried. They have what can only be described as the best holiday home my partner and I have ever stayed in. It is spotlessly clean, very well equipped and ideally located for vising local attractions. Whilst staying there this time we visited wells cathedral and the bishops garden and Glastonbury on more than one occasion. Cheddar gorge, brean down, burnham-on-sea and bath are all within a short drive from this property, and we will be visiting them too next time we stay I am sure.

Great Hosts!

  • 5 of 5

First of all a big thank you to Andrew, Helen and Charlie for making us feel so welcome during our stay.

We booked this accommodation primarily due to its close proximity to a number of nature reserves in the area as my wife and I both love wildlife and birding in particular.

As has been stated previously the barn conversion adjoining the owner's property has been beautifully carried out with quality fittings throughout and underfloor heating.

For your further information the kitchen has an induction hob therefore do not take your own kitchen pans if they are not compatible.

One other thing that we were not aware of before our visit was that there is no freezer contained in the barn conversion however Andrew and Helen have a spare freezer in an outhouse around 40 metres away which guests can use if self catering.

We were extremely fortunate with the weather during our stay with largely sunny skies so therefore we spent a lot of time in the beautiful countryside close by and also further afield. RSPB Ham Wall and Shapwick NNR are a short drive away and are well worth a visit, a short hike up Glastonbury Tor was well worth the effort and possibly one of our favourite excursions was to Breen Down on the Somerset coast with spectacular views of the two Holms in Bridgewater Bay and beyond to the north Devon coast to the south west and south Wales coast to the north west.
