Recently renovated to a high standard, this apartment is both modern and comfortable.

The apartment is ideally suited to a maximum of 4 guests but can accommodate 2 more small children on the small double sofa bed in the living room. This is a new high-quality sofa bed with a comfortable mattress.

About Catherine McReynolds

Jonathan and Catherine purchased 53a High Street in February 2015. Jonathan is originally from Suffolk and used to come to Southwold regularly as a child. Catherine is from Canada but has lived in the UK for over 20 years, and in Suffolk for the last 10 years. Our children love to play on the beach, go crabbing and buy fresh fish from the harbour.

Originally, the building was a shop known as Hurrs which sold fishing tackle, leather goods and all sorts of other curiosities from 1896 to 1971. When it closed down, an Optician’s opened up.

Why Catherine McReynolds chose Suffolk

We live nearby in Wenhaston, 10 minutes' drive away. We come to Southwold all the time and have a business there. Southwold is such a unique place - a beautiful town with a gorgeous beach and lots of great shopping.

What makes this apartment unique

The property is right in the centre of Southwold so it's very central, yet very quiet. The apartment is above a shop. The beach is less than five minutes' walk down the picturesque high street.

The apartment has two bedrooms, but also a new and very comfortable sofabed, bought from Highly Sprung Sofas in London with a proper mattress. You can keep the sheets on it all of the time so it's very convenient. It's a small double so suitable for one or two small children.

Lovely apartment

This apartment was a real find. It is very well equipped with just about everything one could ask for. It was immaculately clean and the beds were very comfortable. Would highly recommend and hope to stay here again ourselves if we visit Southwold in the future.

Booking Notes:
Please see the calendar for availability and email/call to request. We will send out a booking form to be signed (electronic signature accepted) along with a 20% deposit to confirm booking, payable by bank transfer or cheque. When these are received and funds have cleared, we will mark the booking as confirmed. Full payment is required six weeks before the booking begins. When this clears, we will send out directions and information about the handover of keys.

Changeover Day:
Preferred changeover day is Friday, flexible in low season. Arrival is after 4pm and departure by 10am. This can be flexible by prior arrangement if there are no other bookings so please ask if you would like this.

NOTE ON QUOTES: Owners Direct are now giving out quotes. Unfortunately quotes on short stays do not include cleaning and laundry costs as these are only incorporated into weekly stays. Therefore, you will need to add £60 to any Owners Direct quote for a stay less than 7 nights. Sorry for confusion but the website does not currently allow this to be managed any other way. (Example: if you are quoted £300 by Owners Direct for a 3 night stay, the actual cost will be £360. This does not apply to weekly bookings. If you are unsure please email me and I can give you the exact cost).

  • The bathroom was renovated in 2012. There is a WC, hand basin and small bath with a shower, heated towel rail and a triple soap dispenser containing shampoo, conditioner & body soap. A small bar of new, wrapped hand soap is provided. There is a skylight so it is nice and bright.

This is a small apartment. We accept a maximum of four adults. If six people were to stay here, at least two of them should be small children (under 6). Wood flooring throughout, no pets, no smoking, eco-cleaning products provided. We provide a high chair, travel cot with sheets, changing pad, children's dishes & cups, buckets/spades and a selection of games, toys, books & DVDs for children. There is also use of a Radio Flyer Pathfinder wagon which is fantastic for pulling two children or your beach provisions. Welcome pack provided. This is a first floor flat with a small garden which can be used as such or as a parking space. It is not fully enclosed. Quality linen and towels are provided. The flat is cleaned once a week using eco cleaning products and the linen is changed at the same time. Beach towels can be rented at an extra cost. There is a very useful, private entrance hall downstairs where you can leave bikes, pushchairs, buckets and spades, fishing roads, wellies & other outside paraphernalia. There is a Radio Flyer wagon with two seats or can be used to tow children or beach provisions. There is a bag full of children's beach toys available for use.
