About Jane Benney

I was born and brought up at Condurrow Cottage, which was purchased by my mother from Bosahan Estate in the early 1950s as a run down farm cottage. It was a wonderful area to grow up in, the area is truly beautiful with the Helford River virtually on the door step, we learned quickly to row and sail, having wonderful freedom to explore the footpaths and beaches. I have spent nearly the whole of my life here, running a business on the river and being actively involved in the community.

I now live, with my husband in Helford which is 1 mile away, and my life still centres very much around the river and surrounding area. My hobbies are sailing, riding, gardening and walking.

Jane Benney purchased this cottage in 1950

Why Jane Benney chose Saint Anthony-in-Meneage

Condurrow was purchased by my mother before her marriage, and together with my brother two generations of our family have been born and brought up here. Its situation to the Helford River make it a lovely place to live, just out of Manaccan village it is ideal for peace and quiet although there is a nearby working farm so it is not too remote. It has easy access to the coastal footpath and beaches and is close to beautiful gardens which are so famous in this area of Cornwall.

What makes this cottage unique

The house surrounds you in a warm and welcome feeling the moment you enter. It is warm in the winter with the Raeburn in the kitchen and is just as ideal for 2 persons but as comfortable for 6. The lovely large garden affords privacy and is stocked with beautiful mature camellias, it is a wonderful Cornish garden, with plenty of off road parking. It is very close to St. Anthony and Helford giving easy access to the Helford River. The coastal path is very close and allows wonderful walking around the area with sea views and lovely countryside in an AREA OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY.

my family and I stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed every minute of our stay . the cottage is very spacious and bright with a very traditional and homely feel . jane the owner has thought of everything and it is very clean and well equipped with everything you may need . the bath overlooks the garden and is the perfect place to unwind at the end of a day exploring . there is a large open fire (that was prepared and ready to light immediately) in the living room , a wood burner in the dining room and a rayburn in the kitchen as well as additional heating so the cottage stays very warm and cosy . the kitchen is very well equipped and very spacious and overlook gardens that are beautiful and even in late winter provided us with a lovely outdoor space . if you are looking for somewhere to escape from it all this is the place ! set in a very picturesque landscape of the lizard and Helford river with plenty of beautiful scenic places to visit nearby we have had a very memorable holiday and look forward to definitely visiting again .

Great stay!

Cozy cottage with lots of character. The cottage was very comfortable and all facilities were easy to use. Fire place in the living area was amazing! One of the rooms upstairs was a little chillier, compared to the rest. The owner had left a lovely local cake upon our arrival. Everything was clean and tidy. Thank you!

Gorgeous, cosy cottage in lovely location within easy reach of the beautiful Helford river.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was charming and well appointed. Half way through the week the plumber came to turn on the Rayburn, which was very thoughtful -- the kitchen had been quite chilly up until then. Pretty garden, dog-friendly, lovely walks nearby -- it ticked all our boxes! We will stay again, I'm sure.

Beautiful part of Cornwall. Great holiday cottage - well worth a visit.

  • 4 of 5

We loved the cottage, welcome tray, fluffy towels, great water pressure and hot shower. Plenty of room for 5 of us. It was extremely well stocked with everything we needed in the kitchen - even to make scones 😊. We did notice the smell of the smoke which as we arrived at the start of April assumed the previous holiday makers had made much use of the open fires. Perhaps removing the old ash before building a new one might help. Having said that we are not disappointed and had the best time Kayaking, walking and eating in this very beautiful part of Cornwall. Jane thankyou for letting your home, we have great memories to treasure.

This is an excellent and well equipped cottage that would be suitable all year round

  • 5 of 5

We were warmly welcomed on Christmas Eve with a tree, trimmings, and open fire with an abundance of wood, firelighters and coal. The cottage was beautifully decorated for Christmas, and had ample of everything, there was nothing that we needed in order for us to enjoy Christmas with our children who had come from different areas of the UK. Helford Village is lovely with a pub called the Shipwright that welcomes dogs and humans, where we eat on numerous occasions throughout the week, it really is excellent food. The inlet has a small beach, but the coastal path is beautiful so be careful you don't miss it. The drive to the cottage is not as bad as some of the areas, and the cottage is well hidden away with only the sound of cows for company. Jane went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a memorable one. The house and the cottage would make an excellent stay for any family with a family pet.
