Caserio El Olivo is a spacious penthouse apartment over the entire top floor of a large Andalusian country house set in absolute natural tranquility. This is located in a lush and beautiful property surrounded by nature in an authentic Mediterranean setting. The whole property is 3000 sqm and is organic-certificated. The garden contains various orange, avocado and centenarian olive trees and many other Mediterranean fruit trees. There is a playground area as well as a child proof pool area with lawn all around. The apartment Caserio El Olivo is characterised by its large interiors, especially the wide living room and the bright spacious bedrooms – which have one bathroom attached to each. Both bedrooms and the living room have direct access to a very large, beautiful sunny terrace with great views of the garden, the valley and the mountains. All further spaces and a covered terrace are on one level. Everything is tastefully decorated, fully and well-furnished and very well equipped. The house contains all you need (for example, sharp kitchen knives, large red wine glasses, quality mattresses, bed linens and towels). The shared swimming pool (9x4m plus a shallow part) and the lawn area surrounding are fenced and completely childproof. All of these will certainly guarantee a restful, fun and relaxing holiday.
The penthouse is the whole upper floor of the main house on the property of 3000 sqm lush garden. I live in the lower part of this main house and I will make sure the peace and privacy of our guests is respected. In the lower part there is a small studio as well, which is also for rent. This means that you could rent the studio with the penthouse in case you are coming with a larger group. The property also houses another small holiday home, on the other end of the land, which is also for rent.
The pool area is shared by all holiday properties on the land. And all do have their own terrace, garden and barbecue.The lush garden is very child-friendly and it has a playground with a slide tower, tire swing, rocking horse, toys and a football field with one goal. You can pick our delicious lemons and oranges and make fresh juice all the way from November to June.
The property is only 1km away from town (10-15 minutes walking distance) but it still provides with all the quietness and tranquility of pure nature to make your holiday as pleasant and relaxing as possible.
I live in the lower ground floor and I will take into account the peace and privacy of our guests. I will also be totally available to help out with any queries, suggestions, ideas and touristic information when necessary.
We are able to share our experience gathered here over 20 years and offer you practical tips on activities, hikes, beaches, restaurants, cultural events, ticket reservations (for example, Alhambra tickets), etc. so that you are able to experience the authentic Andalusian culture. In addition, we can organise and facilitate flamenco classes, cooking courses, riding tours, alpine hiking tours and ski days.
We can arrange car hire from Malaga Airport with a very efficient car rental company with excellent services (small company, no queuing, quick and personalised service, no pre-charged petrol, etc.). The service refers to a new air conditioned car with full comprehensive insurance without any excess for two named drivers.
Staying with us, a visit to the Alhambra in Granada is an absolute must. The Alhambra is Europe’s largest and best preserved Moorish (Arabic-Medieval) palace and fortress-building, with unimaginable beauty and refinement. As it is also one of Europe’s most visited monuments, we recommend booking tickets in advance (ideally with a few months´ notice) following this link:
To print out the tickets at the cash point of the Caixa Bank in Órgiva or at the Alhambra entrance, it is important to present the same credit/cash card which was used for the online payment.
Our prices are for the entire estate (property, garden and shared pool) for up to 4 adults. Any extra bedding is charged 10€ per day. But extra bedding for children fewer than 12 is free. The rate includes all utilities such as Wi-Fi, gas, electricity, firewood (during winter), a pantry with the essentials (spices, vinegar, oil, sugar, coffee, tea, cocoa/hot chocolate, spaghetti, canned tomato, dish soap, laundry soap, etc.).
The final cleaning fee of 45€ is for our professional cleaning staff and the 40€ for the complete welcome service set which contains the following:
- Complete clean linen set of quality bedding, bed rugs, towels (hand/facial, bathing, pool/beach), kitchen cloths, sponges, set soap and toilet paper, candles and matches.
- A welcome food pack for a first snack with bread, cheese, eggs, olives, yogurt, tomato, lettuce, cucumber, milk, water, juice, beer, a bottle of wine and a fruit bowl.
- Personalized reception at a meeting point in the village as well the guiding and the introduction to the property.
These fees will be charged upon your arrival only once as one single payment, as it is a unique value, independent of the length of your stay. This will ensure that you will find the property in spotless condition giving your holiday the perfect start.
We provide high chairs and cots for free.
Changeover day is on Saturdays during summer season (start of July to end of August). The rest of the year we can be flexible and arrange for a different day of the week. Over low season we can offer on bookings of several weeks’ interesting discounts. From November to March we also offer long let rates for 800€ - 1.200€ per month (depending of dates and length of stay) on special conditions (min. two months). We can also offer special rates for last minutes bookings. The price includes 10% VAT and a house insurance including liability.
Our property is a lawful family-tourism business which is registered and monitored by the Spanish Tourism Authority (Consejería de Turismo y Deporte) which guarantees the highest standards for safety, hygiene and quality. It also has the official Andalusian seal ACROCOLOR as an organic olive and orange farm.

ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS
The property is located in the heart of the Alpujarras, in the green and lush south slopes of Sierra Nevada with its breathtaking landscapes and mild and sunny micro climate all year round. You will have the perfect opportunity to experience and enjoy the authentic and genuine Andalucia intimately, away from the busy touristic spots. Straight from the house, you can enjoy wonderful walks through the valley or up to the hills. By car, you can have amazing excursions to the high part of the 'Las Alpujarras' with its white and picturesque mountain villages or to the snow-covered peaks of Sierra Nevada. The mountain chain reaches an altitude of 3484 m and is replete with a unique wildlife, beautiful rivers and pristine lagoons. The house is only 25 minutes driving distance to the coast, 40 minutes to Granada (one of the most beautiful and lively historic and cultural cities in the world) and little over than one hour to Sierra Nevada ski resorts.
Day trips can include beautiful destinations such as Córdoba, Ronda Seville, or National Parks like Sierra de Grazalema, Sierra de Cazorla and Cabo de Gata.
Blessed with gorgeous weather all year round (including winter time), this region will give you an endless variety of activities and events: you can ski all the way from end of November to April; olive harvest for our own biological olive oil begins in December; almond bloom starts in January; in March, Órgiva celebrates its patron saint with spectacular fireworks; during Easter time there are impressive marches and processions; the historical and revered orange blossom El Azahar occurs in April, filling the valley with its enticing scents; May is an excellent month to go hiking; Granada’s famous Féria with daily corridas de toros (bullfighting) happens in June; July and August vibrate with cheerful and animated village festivals; in September you can enjoy the warm waters in the stunning Mediterranean beaches; the Féria of Órgiva (harvest festival) happens in early October; and in November the local bars start to light their open fireplaces where people enjoy roasting chestnuts.
Whatever the season is, the region remains lively and vibrant with enjoyable activities. All over the year and across the whole region (mountains and coast), restaurants, cafes and beach bars by the sea are open and will give you the chance to experience our gorgeous gastronomical culture and the Andalucian lifestyle.
I came across the Alpujarras by chance during my journey through Spain in the mid 80's. This was about the same time as the famous book writer Chris Stewart arrived into the area. Years later he published his bestseller ‘Driving Over Lemons: An Optimist in Andalucia (The Lemons Trilogy)’ where he tells all these funny tales and amazing experiences he had in this very region. I also discovered the same sort of authentic unspoiled paradise as he did. Back then, south of Granada was very different to what it is now. The area was impoverished, there were not many cars around but lots of donkeys instead, TV was a novelty and people actually 'lived' in the bars. There was no VAT tax yet and no motorway for hundreds of miles. Granada was a day journey away and northern Europe a different planet. I was in heaven. I’ve been living in this area for almost 30 years and my children were born and grew up here. I absolutely love this region. Since then, I've been exploring the many things this area has to offer: hiking, skiing, cycling, snorkeling, biking, cooking, climbing and partying, of course. It´s my home and it feels like paradise!

A LITTLE PIECE OF PARADISE IN ALPUJARRAS

We stayed at Caserio el Olivo for a week in early June 2014 and had an amazing time. The apartment is excellent, from the tastefully decorated bedroom with a large and comfy double bed, a nice bathroom, and a lovely kitchen. But best of all was having breakfast every morning on the wonderful terrace with stunning views of the Sierra Nevada. The garden is full of fruit trees and you can relax in their shade or cool off in the pool (perhaps with a cocktail ;) Orgiva itself is a very interesting village where you can meet some surprising characters and the whole area is beautiful and well worth exploring. We're definitely coming back to this little piece of paradise!

We spent a really nice two weeks at Oliver's place. He is an incredible host who was really happy to show us around and to tell us a lot of interesting stories about Orgiva and it's surroundings. The penthouse was perfect- cosy and welcoming with the most beautiful view of Orgiva and the surrounding mountains. We really enjoyed spending our siestas under the shades of the ancient olive trees, and cooling our heels in the swimming pool. All in all, we are more than happy that we spent our holidays here, and would definitely recommend it to everyone!

As experienced holiday makers on private holiday properties, we have found here one of our favourite places ever.
As the description on the web-site says, everything is well done, done with love, at a high standard and even more beautiful than it looks on the pictures: Furnishing, equipment, facilities, decoration, cleanliness, mattresses, the amazing terrace, the beautiful garden, the tranquillity and calm, the views… in the middle of nature but only ten minutes walking distance to town!
Remarkably as well the really nice, personal reception, and the detailed and good advises and information about what to see and what to do in the area.
Also to mention, the nice detail of the lovely welcome snack. This makes you feel on holiday right from the first moment on. We will be back!
The property was exactly as described and suited the three of us perfectly, 2 adults and a 4 year old. The accommodation was clean, well maintained, and comfortable, providing everything we could need. The terrace is a great area to eat at any time of day. The pool and gardens were lovely to relax and play around and were safe for our daughter. Weather, as expected, was superb. Oliver is a welcoming, charming and helpful host
we stayed in the charming ferry tale cottage 'cortijo el potro'. the house was lovely, very comfortable and clean, nice bedding and towels, good matrasses, very spacious, well equipped.
the view, outside space and covered terrace are very beautiful and idyllic.
it was the perfect spot for a relaxing vacation with our two boys (aged 4 and 2). the whole property is very safe for children. the pool was absolutely perfect as it has a 'childrens' area when they could stand and also shallow steps where they could play, and a closable gate, while at the same time being very close to the terrace and house. there is a swing and playhouse with slide.
We would definitely recommend this house for a family with toddlers. it is not easy to find such a toddler friendly house in this kind of idyllic setting.
location is also very good: alhambra, beach, walking, mountains, charming villages, river... all within easy reach (if you have a car).
the only thing we 'missed' was a dish washer.
If you are looking for a stay in a comfortable house, with a lot of space both inside and outside, quite but near a lively village, this is the place. The house is complete and clean, and the view from the terrace is beautiful. There is a garden all around the property and the child-friendly pool is surrounded by a fence. Oliver, the very kind owner, is there to answer any question and to help out if needed. If you have a car (recommended), the beach, nice mountain villages and hiking areas are easy to reach within 30 minutes. Orgiva has good restaurants and bars, friendly people and a lively market once a week, where people offer fresh fruits and vegetables, crafted jewelry and gadgets, and many natural, home made products.
If you are planning to go to Alhambra, make sure you get a tour guide, because there is no sign or information whatsoever. And buy your tickets in advance, as soon as possible.
