2 Bed Cornish Cottage With Lots Of Off Road Parking.

This very well presented, traditional dog friendly Cornish Cottage is just 100 meters flat strole from Porthallow's quiet beach and local pub (both dog friendly) and a short walk to Fat Apples café. Built in the 1920’s and named after the SS Volnay it retains many period features and is an ideal base either to explore rural Lizard or stay in with your feet up with its unique living rock wall fire place. The cottage also adjoins a rural footpath yards from the front door which explores the local fields and woodlands (ideal for the first quick dog leg stretch in the morning). The very large and sunny organic seaward facing garden often contains seasonal livestock, top bar bee hives and cheeky chickens laying fresh eggs daily. Gentle streams boarder the garden interspersed with apple trees, wild flowers, BBQ area and separate fire pit. With plenty to explore in the local area for the whole family, life can be as busy as you make it. (At this point I recommend you read the reviews for the reasons why you should stay). Porthallow has a quiet and sheltered pebble beach with rock pools to explore and magnificent views. The beach offers small boats and kayak/canoe launching facilities ideal for fishing and cove exploration. Pothallow is the official South West coastal path half way point and Volnay View is ideally situated for families to enjoy this living heritage. Volnay View has lots of off road parking (small trailers included) with easy access. There is also ample outside drying space for beach clothing, diving/fishing equipment. Other nearby attractions POLDARK MINE, FLAMBARDS, CADGWITH, COVERACK, CAMEL Farm and GOONHILLY EARTH STATION.

If the weather is good a fishing trip with the owner is must or even a ride in WW2 jeep.

Out of season long weekends and other dates accepted, always a good time to enjoy log fires.

Returning to the Lizard after decades away, was lucky to find Volnay Cottage at Porthallow to use as a base to re-explore the locality and the Lizard generally. Comfortably and well equipped, being set in tranquil surroundings was perfect, whether we wanted to sit on the beach or stroll along the many local footpaths. Enjoyed strolling to the village pub full of convivial locals. Will return to this 'little gem' without doubt.

Fire pit area and secluded areas including seating and bench areas. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Property cleaned at change over. Cleaning equipment and hover in under stairs cupboard. Other: Sun room with living rock wall fire place (wood burner), sofa, dresser, DVD player (with DVD'S), stable door, shoe and coat rack

Charming clean and comfortable

The cottage suited us perfectly. Pete could not have been more accommodating. Great base to visit friends and family in and around the Lizard. The house was beautifully clean, thought and care had been put into the layout and accomodation. We had a really lovely peaceful break in Porthallow. N.B. The Five Pilchards was a real treat!

Homely, quiet, green and warm

The property was great- clean and warm. 2 wood burners and an amazing living jungle wall thing which we loved. Brilliant location in this enchanting Cornwall back water- literally 2 minutes walk to beach & great pub.

The owner was very kind and generous, and we greatly appreciate how welcoming he was.

Not a bad word to say. Porthallow is wonderful. And the birds, the birds...

A peach of a cottage in a peach of a village

Pete and Nikki and family couldn`t have done more for us to make our holiday the most stress free and enjoyable stay.

There was 110% effort from them and their calming nature made it an exeptional time away from home.

The cottage was immaculate and the welcome was very warm and friendly. The information Pete gave us came in very useful and there was nothing that was a problem.

A well maintained and comfortable cottage. Helpful owner and friendly neighbours.

The only pink cottage in the village has everything you need to make you feel comfortable and welcome. The owner, Pete, could not be more accommodating. The neighbours are friendly and helpful too! Beautifully decorated and clean. We didn't want to leave. You won't either.

perfect later summer break

The cottage was very cosy and perfect for our wet dogs, that swam every day, to dry off in the conservatory. Great pub and the locals were so friendly, we had a lovely holiday

Total peace!

Spotlessly clean, well equipped, home from home, 320 paces to the beach. Loved every minute, in this peaceful and friendly location. The wolves are smashing and Pete the owner is friendly and helpful. Hopefully we will be able to come back n the future

Changeover Day:
Change over time SAT to SAT. Please depart by 10:00 and arrive no earlier than 16:00 to allow for change over. Luggage storage can be provided should no wish to arrive early and or depart latter.

There is a 15% discount for bookings of 2 weeks or more.
Dates outside of calendar can be arranged.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 50% refund for cancellations more than 7 days before check-in date.
  • 100% refund for cancellations more than 14 days before check-in date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
