Cottage in Borrowdale, Nr. Keswick, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Peaceful Location With Many Walks Accessible Straight From Your Door

Hollows Farm is a National Trust farm which offers B&B in its 17th Century Farmhouse and this adjoining self-catering cottage was converted in 2001 from a stable and hay loft. The cottage comprises of downstairs kitchen/dining area and shower room with WC and wash basin, stairs leading to open plan bedroom/sitting room, owner maintained no smoking or pets. The farm is 1/2 mile from Grange village and is situated on the edge of Wainwrights favourite square mile. There is a variety of walks from the farm which include Catbells and Castle Cragg, walks that people never tire of and keep returning to the cottage year after year.

We are Gavin & Laura Fearon and have been tenants on this National Trust Farm since 1993, we have grown up in the area and are both from farming family's. We run this together and have help from our two sons.

Absolutely perfect!!

We stayed in this cottage for three nights and it had everything that we wanted. The location was lovely as it was surrounded by mountains and in a quiet area. The actual cottage itself was well-mantained and perfect for two people. The only downside would be the shower, due to not to being able to get the correct temperature on it. Other than that it was perfect and would definitely recommend it.

I camped there nearly 60 years ago (1957) with a scout group and it still looks beautiful. Happy times.

Special interest holidays:

Borrowdale is an excellent area for walking, climbing, mountain biking, water sports and sightseeing,many walks straight from the door, including the popular Catbells with amazing views from the top over Derwentwater and Newlands valley, Scafell and Great Gable are close by for the more adventurous. There are many less strenuous walks around the valley to enjoy with plenty of lovely view to take in. For a lazy day, walk to the shore of Derwentwater 1-2 miles,then pick up the launch, relax and have a trip round the lake, You can even stop on route at the historical market town of Keswick

for a browse around the many shops.There is also a regular bus service from Keswick to the top of the valley.

Coast/Beach:

The west coast is 45 mins by car,where you will find the towns of Maryport, Whitehaven,Workington and Silloth.

Travel:

Nearest airport - Newcastle (90 miles)

Nearest train station - Penrith (20 miles)

A car is not essential but recommended.

Distances:

We are 1/2 mile from Grange Village.

Rosthwaite village - 2 miles

Keswick - 4 miles

Penrith - 20 Miles

Cockermouth - 12 miles

Further Details:

Keswick is where you will find a Information centre, 2 supermarkets, plenty of shops, banks, laundrette, petrol stations, pubs, takeaways, cinema and the Theatre by the Lake.

There is tea rooms and places to eat out scattered around the Borrowdale valley

From the Owner

Hollows Cottage is only 1/2 mile from Grange, where there is 2 busy tea rooms, and less than 5 mile from Keswick which is a bustling market town, the farm is rural but not isolated. We live next door to the cottage, it is owner maintained, and we have a good knowledge of the area for walks, eating out. Our youngest son has free range eggs for sale. You can often see Gavin working and training sheep dogs. We look forward to welcoming you to Hollows Farm.
