Cottage in Borrowdale, Nr. Keswick, Lake District, Cumbria, England - Peaceful Location With Many Walks Accessible Straight From Your Door

Hollows Farm is a National Trust farm which offers B&B in its 17th Century Farmhouse and this adjoining self-catering cottage was converted in 2001 from a stable and hay loft. The cottage comprises of downstairs kitchen/dining area and shower room with WC and wash basin, stairs leading to open plan bedroom/sitting room, owner maintained no smoking or pets. The farm is 1/2 mile from Grange village and is situated on the edge of Wainwrights favourite square mile. There is a variety of walks from the farm which include Catbells and Castle Cragg, walks that people never tire of and keep returning to the cottage year after year.

About Laura Fearon

We are Gavin & Laura Fearon and have been tenants on this National Trust Farm since 1993, we have grown up in the area and are both from farming family's. We run this together and have help from our two sons.

What makes this cottage unique

Hollows Cottage is only 1/2 mile from Grange, where there is 2 busy tea rooms, and less than 5 mile from Keswick which is a bustling market town, the farm is rural but not isolated.

We live next door to the cottage, it is owner maintained, and we have a good knowledge of the area for walks, eating out. Our youngest son has free range eggs for sale.

You can often see Gavin working and training sheep dogs.

We look forward to welcoming you to Hollows Farm.

Notes on accommodation: No pets and No smoking The cottage is available for shorter stays (minimum 3 nights) outside of the peak season, please email any request. Outside: No private garden, but ajoining Farmhouse is run as a bed and breakfast and the garden can be shared with B&B and cottage guests which includes patio area. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen is provided, as are tea towels and bath mats, please bring your own towels. All heating and electric in inclusive. Other: There is a barn next door where wet coats can be hung and also to store bikes.

Stunning location, footpath right outside the door, only a short drive to Keswick and Honister

Nestled under High Spy and Maiden Moor, Hollows farm is full or Lakeland charm and character, you can leave your car at the farm, then take a short walk straight from your front door, gaining height and stunning views quite quickly from High Spy across Derwent water, Skiddaw and Blencathra to the north, the Borrowdale valley, High seat and Helvellyn range to the east, the Scafell's to the south, Buttermere and Crummock to the west, you really feel right in the middle of it all.

From High spy you can walk south to Dale head and down to Honister for lunch, then back along side Honister pass to Castle Crag and back to Hollows farm, buy yourself some eggs from Laura at the farmhouse and rest your tired feet or drive to lakeside in Keswick for a boat trip on Derwent water and some shopping.

I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Hollows farm to anyone, if it's your first trip or your a seasoned Wainwright bagger, Laura and her family are friendly and helpful without invading your space, it really is a good balance. The cottage was clean, warm and well equiped, I am very much looking forward to my next stay at Hollows farm.

Outstanding Holiday Accommodation

This cottage is one of the best my husband and I have stayed in. It is clean and designed with attention to detail and with all the amenities you need for your stay. We were a little disappointed that the Wi-Fi signal was too weak to make a connection most of the time, but apart from this it is an excellent place to stay to explore the Northern Lake District. We are thinking of returning in the Winter time to get some photos of snow on the fells.

A gorgeous cottage on a working farm.Beautiful scenery right outside the door.many walks in either direction through the Borrowdale valley. An ideal location . Thoroughly enjoyed the stay and will definitely return . Could not fault anything!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Hollows Farm cottage and would have liked to have stayed longer! Very comfortable in an ideal location so couldn't have been better. Would like to return if find ourselves in same area again.

Soggy week in beautiful cottage.

Hollows Cottage is a very well equipped ,cosy cottage on a busy working farm surrounded by spectacular scenery. The sitting area upstairs works well and affords lovely views over the farmyard to the hills. I

The cottage had everything we needed for a comfortable week . The kitchen was well equipped and worked well.

We even had no trouble drying our wet coats!!!!

Borrowdale is an excellent area for walking, climbing, mountain biking, water sports and sightseeing,many walks straight from the door, including the popular Catbells with amazing views from the top over Derwentwater and Newlands valley, Scafell and Great Gable are close by for the more adventurous. There are many less strenuous walks around the valley to enjoy with plenty of lovely view to take in. For a lazy day, walk to the shore of Derwentwater 1-2 miles,then pick up the launch, relax and have a trip round the lake, You can even stop on route at the historical market town of Keswick

for a browse around the many shops.There is also a regular bus service from Keswick to the top of the valley.

Coast/Beach:

The west coast is 45 mins by car,where you will find the towns of Maryport, Whitehaven,Workington and Silloth.

Travel:

Nearest airport - Newcastle (90 miles)

Nearest train station - Penrith (20 miles)

A car is not essential but recommended.

We are 1/2 mile from Grange Village.

Rosthwaite village - 2 miles
