Recently Refurbished Holiday Cottage in the Centre of Fowey

Overview

Property

Updated: 28-Nov-2016
House in Fowey, Cornwall - Excellent Location, Within Easy Reach of Town and Sea

45 North Street is a traditional two-bedroom townhouse located in the centre of the popular sailing town of Fowey. It combines the most appealing features of a traditional property with a modern and recently refurbished interior, which makes it the best possible base for enjoying all that Cornwall has to offer. Downstairs consists of a large open-plan living and dining area with adjoining kitchen. Upstairs there is a large and spacious south-facing master bedroom with views overlooking North Street; a twin room with two single beds; and a bathroom. Both bedrooms are well appointed with modern furniture, comfortable beds and high quality bed linen. Outside, there is a small patio seating area and a shed houses a washer/dryer and recycling facilities. Fowey itself is a delight. On North Street you will be sharing an address with the Lifeboat office, boatyards, a sailmaker and many other small businesses. In the centre of the town there are appealing options for eating out at any time of day, ranging from traditional cream teas and locally sourced crab sandwiches, to fish and chips, modern bistros, delicious seafood and cosy pubs. Local shops include a butcher, off-licence, bakery, fishmonger and convenience store, as well as a range of independent galleries and shops, two bookshops and plenty of places to pick up souveniers. And of course there is the beating heart of Fowey: the river itself, emptying out into the sea, offering watersports, fishing, boat trips, stunning coastal walks and beautiful beaches. A week at 45 North Street won’t seem like enough. Why not book two?

Charming cottage in heart of Fowey

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed spending our Christmas break here - the cottage is a charming, traditional one, but with appealing contemporary layout and furniture. Light, airy bedroom (one of two) with a very comfortable bed, and we really liked the double rain head/ power shower in the bathroom. The kitchen was spotlessly clean and really well-equipped for cooking, though there are plenty of places to eat and drink in Fowey, a short walk from the cottage. There is also a nice range of shops - we liked the second-hand bookshop and Kittows is a great independent butcher/deli for pasties or other food for picnics and lunches. We walked off our lunch by going as far as Readymoney Cove, but there seem to be plenty of riverside and coastal walking options. The owners dealt very promptly with all our queries and were extremely welcoming - even providing us with Christmas decorations and lights! We would definitely recommend a stay here, and will probably return again in the spring.

Coast/Beach:

The nearest sandy beach is Readymoney Cove on the edge of the town, just fifteen minutes’ walk from the house. Continuing along the coast you will come to secretive Polridmouth Cove and then Polkerris, where watersports are available. For walkers and birdwatchers, the South West Coast Path offers stunning scenery and is easily accessed from the town. Surfers will need to drive to the north Cornish coast: we recommend Polzeath, Constantine and Harlyn.

Nearest airport: Newquay (24 miles away), which offers flights from Manchester, London, Birmingham and Edinburgh in summer. Nearest railway station: Par (4 miles away), which is on the main line between Paddington and Penzance and is served by regular trains. For supermarket shopping, the nearest is the Coop in Par (15 minutes’ drive away) or Tesco in St Austell (25 minutes’ drive away). Fowey Sports Hub at the top of the town has squash courts and a gym. For swimming, Polkyth Leisure Centre in St Austell or the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin are both 25 minutes’ drive away.

Notes:

  • While we do not have a parking space with the cottage, there are two car parks within a short walk (one at Caffa Mill is five minutes' walk away, the other, the Old Station Road car park, is ten minutes away), and weekly permits can be obtained for these from the council. There is space outside the house for loading and unloading, however as it is on the main street in the town, parking is not permitted. Alternatively, there is free parking at the top of the town, which is about a fifteen-minute walk away.
