About the property

Hayloft Gite at Kergudon

Welcome to Kergudon Gites et Chambres d'Hotes. In a place of peace and serenity, a presbytery was built in 1640 to provide accommodation for the clergy overseeing the construction of the church, and act as a rest stop for travellers and pilgrims. As the priest was allowed to keep doves, a privilege afforded only to the aristocracy and church, a dovecot was constructed in the south gable of the building which can be seen today. This has given it its name of Ker (‘home’ in the Breton language) and Gudon (‘dove’).

Over the next century stables and other buildings were constructed to support the occupants (the building we use as a gym being dated 1663) which have now been converted to provide self-catering holiday accommodation in this beautiful part of rural France.

Situated in the natural park of Armorique in the département of Finistère, as the name implies it feels like the end of the earth within the region of Brittany. Surrounded by forests and woodland walks Kergudon Gîtes & Chambres d’Hotes is within easy reach of lakes, coastline, beaches, villages and market towns which offer a wide range of activities for all our guests.

We bought the property at the very end of 2014 and are continuing to develop the cottages and Chambres d’Hotes to provide luxurious holiday accommodation for present-day travellers wanting rest and relaxation in comfortable gîtes which offer modern conveniences, home comforts and practicalities of the 21st century while retaining their French charm.

We have 4 separate gîtes, ranging from 1 bed (2 person) to 3 bed (6 person plus), which can be booked either individually or as a whole to accommodate larger groups or family for events and celebrations year round. Three of our gîtes are equipped to provide full self-catering accommodation while one, Stable, is best suited for Chambres d’Hôtes / bed and breakfast – however, those staying in any of our gîtes, self-catering or not, can take advantage of our B&B menu!

We believe our home offers huge attraction to anybody who wants to spend some time on holiday in this wonderful part of Brittany. Whether you are looking for a romantic break as a couple, luxurious affordable family holiday accommodation, space to bring the extended family for a celebration or event, a break in a charming and historic location with access to a wide variety of leisure activities, or somewhere for Chambres d’Hôtes (Bed and Breakfast) accommodation while walking, cycling, driving or travelling, we have something to offer at our gîtes in Brittany.

Please do visit our website for additional information on the properties, local area and activities to do.

About Benjamin Dickins

We moved to Saint Cadou in January 2015 having lived and worked in London for the preceding years. We were looking for a complete change of lifestyle that would allow us to pursue some of the activities that we were not able to do with our London lives and lifestyles.

We fell in love with the properties as soon as we saw them as they have age, charm and character. Since we arrived we have spent a lot of time refurbishing the buildings themselves and we are now focussed on the gardens and grounds which will be a multi-year project.

Since moving to France we have managed to pick up some of those other activities as we have bought the dog we always wanted so have a lovely Springer Spaniel, Garratt, as well as a cat called Mouse.

Benjamin Dickins purchased this house in 2014

Why Benjamin Dickins chose Sizun

Kergudon House is our home and we live onsite at Kergudon Gites et Chambres d'Hotes. We are so lucky to be able to live in such a beautiful part of Brittany and we love everything about rural French living, it is a privilege to be able to share this wonderful experience with our guests at Kergudon.

As we live onsite we maintain the gardens and the gites all year round and we are also on hand to help with anything from French speaking to getting the dishwasher to work.

We love French wine and French food and the simple pleasures in live, all of which you will find at Kergudon.

Saint Cadou itself is an amazing little cosmopolitan village with a lively heart centred on the pub and the Salles des Fetes. If you are here when one of the regular Fete Noz's are arranged we would thoroughly recommend coming along to experience this amazing piece of Breton culture.

The village, and so houses, are perfectly places equi-distant from the north, west and south coast of Brittany allowing us, and our guests, a wide range of interesting places to visit from wild coastline, to large towns and small cities and lovely smaller market towns.

What makes this house unique

Our location is perfect for those who love the great outdoors. Sited in the Monts D'Arrée, within the Regional Parc d'Amorique we have fabulous walks, rambles, rides and outdoor activities available. We have mountain bikes and wellington boots available for our guests to use.

The Lac du Drennec is 3 kms away and is among the best trout fishing in France for those who can, or want to learn how to, fly fish. Additionally there are many other lakes and coastal areas for those who enjoy other forms of fishing.

For those who want a more relaxed holiday the houses are cosy and comfortable for those who want to read a book, watch a film or just relax.

We provide catering options for dinner and breakfast as well as picnics for your days out.

A superb property in a glorious region of Britanny

  • 5 of 5

We have just enjoyed the most wonderful, relaxing break with our two teenage sons. We were met on arrival by the kind and generous Ben & David, who couldn't do enough to make our stay a very memorable experience.

Spotlessly clean, well equipped house with a luxury welcome basket full of French products on our arrival. It was one of the best Gites we have been stayed at, everything was matching and of a high quality including beautiful bed linen, towels/dressing gowns, to what you would expect in a 5 start luxury hotel!

Ben & David were most helpful and we paid extra for a welcome meal on our arrival which was cooked to perfection and we were still eating the left overs for a few days afterwards!

Nothing seems too much trouble for Ben and this goes a long way to making booking and staying at the Gite a pleasant experience. We made use of the bikes in their garage and spent a number of evenings laying on the patio on the sun loungers with my boys playing with puppy Brendon and Garret too!

In summery the location was great as it gave us access to the northern part of Brittany, Brest and the Crozon Peninsula, which were the most stunning beaches I have been to in Europe (and no one was there!) with rock pooling and surfing in the sea most days. We managed to find a Jet Skiing centre which rounded off the holiday for the boys and a wonderful friendly horse riding stables just 10 minutes up the road from the Gite.

Overall a throughly wonderful holiday, which we were highly recommend, with thanks to Ben, David, Garret and Brendon!
