With it's easy access to the city of Peterborough Fen-Acre offers the best of two worlds rural and city. It's just 15 mins from Peterborough, a bustling Cathedral city yet in the heart of the Fens with it's big skies, quiet roads and low flat land. The ideal place for cycling for softies with miles of quiet roads and the well known Green Wheel that circles the city and gives access to the lovely Nene Park where cycling is so popular. The river Welland skirts the town and is popular with bird watchers and fishermen. Ride the water taxi into Spalding and visit Spalding and Springfields, an out of town shopping outlet. Drive the 15 mins into Peterborough and here the city has everything a family could want. Lots of activities both sporting and leisure as well as great shopping. Within a 30 minute drive you will find Burghley House (come for the Horse Trials in September), Rutland Water and Nene Park both a great days out, Tallington Lakes for the water sports and dry ski slope enthusiasts, and the historic stone town of Stamford, voted the Best place to Live in 2013. Fen-Acre prices are the same all through the year so with no increase in the school holidays it is ideal for families with a large secure garden with a zip-wire, trampoline, swings, and room to kick a ball. Both units are modern, well furnished and fitted , fully self contained with full gas central heating, luxury shower rooms, fully fitted large kitchen, dishwasher, full cooking facilities, microwave, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge, freezer, unlimited fast speed broadband, a real home from home. Mobility friendly originally designed for an occasional wheelchair user. We have a wide range of extras available both for the elderly and babies / toddlers, such as travel cot, high chair, shower stool, toilet frame, etc.
We are in our 60's have 4 daughters, 4 great son-in-laws and 9 grandchildren. We like to think that when our family visit they can relax, recharge their batteries and set off again reinvigorated. We enjoy welcoming them but try not to be too intrusive into their private lives, just offering support when needed. We apply the same principles to our holiday guests. We enjoy making people feel welcomed and comfortable but are aware that people like their space. Hopefully we provide an environment where all the practical needs are met so they are free to relax and concentrate on enjoying their break.
We have always lived in this area and moved into this property 20 years ago. It was a restoration project and is now unrecognisable from the way it was. We love the fact that it is in a small town where everyone knows most people yet is still just a few minutes away from a bustling Cathedral city with all that has to offer. Excellent shopping, lovely country parks, large Country Estates and small thatched roofed villages dotted around and within easy reach of London and the A1. Would you believe we can be in Scotland in 3.5hrs! So if you are coming from Scotland you could be here in 3.5hrs:)
We have tried to think of everything so you will find life easy whilst you are here. So if all you arrive with are your clothes, your money and your smiles (oh and lovely weather) that should be all you need.
“Best s/c accommodation we have ever stayed at!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2014
This was the best self-catering accommodation we have ever stayed in. Lovely welcome from Julie & Mike spotless rooms and a welcome hamper of eggs from their own hens (delicious), milk, bread, orange juice and butter, as well as as much tea & coffee you could drink. We stayed at Eastside with its lovely big, fully equipped kitchen (better than our own!), our 4yo slept in the comfy sofa bed and we had the double bed. Lots of books to read, board games as well as DVDs already supplied by the owners. Had a look inside the other accommodation, The Lodge, as well which has 2 bedrooms, and just as well equipped. Both have access to the large garden at the rear which has a large trampoline, zip wire, swings and is also home to the chicken pen, which my son loved. Julie was brilliant and had printed off details of local childrens play centres and Nene Valley info, all which were within a 20 minute drive. Crowland centre is about a 10 minute walk from Eastside, with a local co-op, spar, couple if pubs, chip shop and Italian restaurant. We took little un to the local garden centre too as they had a small soft-play area.
Overall, a great place for a weekend, mid-week (or longer) break. Brilliant price, they have the same price all-year round and don't increase it for school holidays (unlike most other rip-off holiday providers) and it felt like going to stay with friends or relatives rather than a holiday booking. Will definitely, definitely be returning!
Free wifi as well.
“What a lovely place to stay - so friendly - really made you feel at home.”

We had a wonderful stay with Julie and Bub. They made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The use of their extensive garden is great and my daugther fell in love with their dog, Sam. The Lodge has everything you could ask for - including a condiments draw with oil, herbs, oxo etc. Good location for getting to places but avoid A47 - was a nightmare when we went. We visited Peterborough - great shopping and Cathedral, Cambridge (went down the B roads) - great fun and Sandringham - what a wonderful estate. We certainly hope to stay again with Julie and highly recommend it.
“Fantastic Holiday Home”

This is an amazing holiday home. It was spotlessly clean. Julie was wonderfully thoughtful as she provided essential provisions such as milk, eggs, coffee, tea, etc. We would thoroughly recommend it.
