About the Owner

Love the sea, coastal walks and enjoying the beautiful Dorset countryside, with friends, children or our little Norwich terrier. Enjoy a good game of tennis when time allows, plus cooking and reading.

Used to live in Africa, so that's one of my top places to Travel, but been on some wonderful walking holidays to Crete , Turkey and France. You really get to see the country and eat the local food.

Not traveled yet with airbnb but planning to soon and looking forward to welcoming guests to our home and beautiful county.

An excellent choice for a family holiday in Dorset

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a really lovely family holiday with eight of us staying at Minterne House. The younger children loved exploring the large garden and enjoyed the freedom of being able to safely roam around and play games with picturesque fields beyond and sheep to watch over the fence. The house was ideal for a family with the large open plan living area and we made great use of the 10 seater inside and outside dining tables for sharing meals and playing family games. The house was well equipped, spacious and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed walking down to Beaminster to use the local shops, restaurants and pubs and the location was ideal for exploring West Dorset. The weather was decent enough for us to get down to the beaches at West Bay, Seatown and Charmouth and this really is a perfect spot for a holiday in Dorset.

We had to leave the property after 48hrs due the entire party (of 8) feeling the house was unwelcoming, unpleasant and cleanliness being sub-standard. Would not recommend until improvements have been made. The star rating would have been zero had it been possible.

Great location for a peaceful break

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here as a large family group. The house is a 10-15 minute walk into Beaminster and you can choose to walk across a footpath or via a quiet road. The house itself is very peaceful and rural on a single track road and has great views, particularly from the master bedroom which has a high ceiling with skylights and a balcony. There is hardly any passing traffic, just the odd horse rider or dog walker!

The garden is is a real feature with sheep in the field at the end; a treehouse, trampoline and a large seating area with a table that can fit everyone! Plenty of room for cricket, football and hide and seek; plus there is also a table tennis table under cover which was good on rainy days.

The house is cosy with the Aga though we did have to get used to cooking this way and allow more time to prepare meals. The kitchen is very spacious and well equipped with plenty of fridge and freezer space.

The house is well furnished and there is a large book collection. For us it was nice to have the TV in a separate snug, as this meant we didn't sit in the main lounge area and watch it each night!

The beds were all reported to be comfortable and there were plenty of bathrooms with two ensuites, a separate bathroom and a downstairs cloakroom.

Beaminster is a small town with several nice cafes/coffee shops, a local history museum, a supermarket, butchers, greengrocer, couple of pubs, gift shops, takeaways and a few restaurants. We had a very good meal at Steak Out and would highly recommend it, plus the fish and chip shop came in handy!

Further into Bridport you can find Lidl and Morrisons.

The beaches are about 15 minutes away and we would have visited them more had we had better weather! We also enjoyed the various attractions at Abbotsbury and a little further afield, the Fleet Air Arm museum at Yeovil.

There were lots of footpaths In the immediate vicinity for keen walkers and the local people were all friendly.

Communications with the owner were straightforward and advance information was provided and questions answered promptly.

We would recommend this property to those larger groups looking for a peaceful location that is nevertheless well situated for the Dorset coast and local attractions.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your kind review. I was so pleased you enjoyed your stay and obviously made the most of all that West Dorset had to offer as well as the house and it's immediate surroundings. I look forward to welcoming you again maybe in the near future. Best Wishes Emma

Lovely holiday.

  • 3 of 5

Minterne is a lovely house in a lovely location. There is plenty of room for everyone (we had a party of nine) both inside the house and in the extensive gardens. The location is quiet, we had the odd horse passing up the lane, great for a relaxing holiday. Beaminster is close to several coastal resorts, West Bay, Seatown, Charnmouth and Lyme Regis are all near-bye. All in all an enjoyable holiday

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

The beautiful Jurassic Coastline is only 20 minutes drive away, with a selection of stunning beaches and wonderful coastal walking. The arty eccentric town of Bridport is very close too.Good cafes, restaurants and excellent street market on a saturday full of arty things , bric a brac and vintage bargins.

Lots of interesting and fashionable restaurants nearby such as Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock, Mark Hix Fish at Lyme Regis. The Anchor at Seaton , great setting and The Bull Hotel in Bridport.

West Bay location for Broadchurch is close by, full of cheap and cheerful places to eat , the best place for fish and chips.

Definitely advisable to have a car, but there are train stations at Crewkerne and Dorchester and a not bad bus service from Beaminster to Bridport.
