A Very Special Old House with a Large Pool and Wonderful Views

Updated: 13-Oct-2016
Flop House near Bedoin, Provence, France - A Beautiful Old Restored Mas in a Very Peaceful Location

A very special old house with wonderful views and an Infinity pool, five bedrooms and five bathrooms, this stunning large Mas is simply wonderful. Within walking distance of one of Provence's most popular villages, yet in a rural location, it has outstanding 180º views from it’s large landscaped garden which stretch over the vineyards and woodlands of the beautiful Vaucluse Plateau. The sun rises over Mont Ventoux in the east and sets over the Dentelles de Montmirail to the west. The village of Bedoin with it’s bars, restaurants and the famous Monday market is well situated to explore this beautiful corner of Provence. Here you will find walled market villages, and beautiful cities, such as nearby Avignon and Aix en Provence. There are the Roman wonders of Orange, Vaison La Romaine, and Arles, and for antique and brocante lovers, the famous markets at l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Avignon. Take the wine trail passing numerous caves, which will welcome you in to sample their delights. For the more energetic there is canoeing, walking the numerous beautiful marked trails, or just meandering, fishing, golf, flying, horse riding and tennis. Bedoin is of course at the foot of the famous Mont Ventoux.

About the Owner

Sally and I (Peter) live in an old farmhouse on the Essex/Suffolk borders. Our family are now grown up and we have five grand-children. We both enjoy French cuisine, wine and travel. Sally is a keen artist and I have a strong interest in historic cars and run a small restoration business. I think it is fair to say that we also are both enthusiastic Francophiles.

We can't recommend The Flop House highly enough! We spent the most incredible week there. The house is very tastefully decorated and immaculately presented which makes the initial arrival a real wow moment. It's actually better than the photo's, which were enticing enough! It also felt so easy to kick back & relax into it, a real family house and not just a rental. Maddy & Richard were such friendly & helpful owners. Nothing was too much trouble and their attention to detail in The Flop House gives it a real edge in our opinion. Funnily enough... we can't wait to return!!! Matt.J (London)

.. But nothing can prepare you for its view. It’s simply breathtaking. You would want to return year after year, just to sit at a table on the terrace each morning, I honestly cannot think of a more perfect way to start the day. Jeff & Nina

A superb house and garden with magnificent views

  • 5 of 5

The house description matched our own views, particularly the interior layout and decor which was outstanding.

The property stood out as clean and well maintained, it was extremely well managed by Christelle, who was more than happy to answer questions both about the house and the surrounding area?

A perfect house for a family celebration with a pool that had a good child friendly entry point, and a large open space for ball games.

Didn't try the local restaurants, a barbecue and good cooking facilities, along with fresh local produce was enough for us, particularly with five young children.

Sleeping arrangements were excellent as where the different downstair areas.

Easy access to the village, safe for young people on bikes.

The owners made themselves easily accessible and where always friendly. I would recommend this property without question.

When returning to Provence this Spring, we searched for different Villa but could find none that seemed to measure up to this gem within walking distance of Bedoin and it's rich, Monday market.

The new owners proved very helpful and responsive and once again, this large, delightfully renovated home became a superb location for our day trips and our pleasant evening dinners on the terrace.

We love the proximity to Ventoux and Avignon but some of our richest memories of this stay involve our nightly walks along the 'back road' into town.

Our group of eight seniors enjoyed our private rooms and the large 'coming together' spaces that this beautifully furnished old home provides and it will always be on our bucket list for the future.

A beautiful, secluded house

  • 5 of 5

A large and beautifully furnished house in a secluded spot, just outside Bédoin, at the bottom of mt Ventoux. Lovely garden, and good sized pool makes it a perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

A unique stay in a wonderful old house

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed twice at Flop House Palace and we loved the house even more the second time than the first. Sally and Peter, the owners, were incredibly generous and thoughtful in leaving us beautiful bottles of wine, a stocked cupboard in the kitchen, and local soaps in all bathrooms. The house itself is a very beautiful, old 'mas Provençal' which has been impeccably restored with lots of style and charm, with gorgeous stone floors and colourful shutters, yet everything works perfectly and is of the highest quality. The rooms are large, all beds are incredibly comfortable, and there is plenty of room to accommodate a large family - or two families, as we were, while leaving lots of room for everyone to have their own space. The spacious outdoor garden and pool area also make for fantastic hide-and-seek turf for children, or great lounging areas for adults! Bedoin itself is a charming, unpretentious and very authentic village which can be accessed easily following a lovely dirt road in 10 minutes. There is tons to do and see in the surrounding area, including hiking on Mont Ventoux for the adventurous. We cannot recommend this wonderful house more highly and hope to be so lucky as to go back again and again!

From the Owner

We first visited this part of Provence in 1964, shortly after we were married, in order to take part in a sporting event, and fell in love with it at first sight. We have continued to visit almost every year since then initially bringing our children, and subsequently our grand-children, all of whom are equally passionate about the region. For us perhaps it’s greatest attraction is that in fifty years this area has changed little if at all. Arriving here is a step back in time, and consequently lifestyle. This is France at it’s very best, perpetual blue skies combined with wonderful local food, wine and friendly people. Access from the Autoroute, the TGV and three International Airports is also excellent with journey times of between 60 and 90 minutes.

Only a few minutes drive from the lively village of Bedoin with it’s cafes, market, shops, restaurants and summer concerts. One big attraction is that by walking down a quiet lane, directly from the house, it only takes 12 minutes to reach the centre of the village.

Further Details:

The surrounding area offers many natural and historical attractions. There are fetes, festivals and markets in abundance, music and opera events, dazzling lavender and sunflower fields and vineyards synonymous with Provence, varied sporting activities such as canoeing, cycling, flying, golf, horse riding, quad biking, tennis, and walking The gastronomic restaurants and many excellent local wines complete the perfect holiday experience.

From the Owner

To us one of the joys of both Flop House and La Maison de Lune is the utter peace and quiet of their location and yet within a twelve minute walk, or a four minute drive, you are in Bedoin with it’s excellent selection of restaurants, bars, boulangeries, shops and it’s Monday market. This operates throughout the year but during the Summer swells to such proportions that the whole town is closed to traffic. Here you will find wonderful fresh fish, local vegetables, charcuterie, olives, cheese, clothing and souvenirs, the list is endless. Both houses also offer truly fantastic views of the foothills and indeed of Mont Ventoux itself, the Giant of Provence.
