Flop House near Bedoin, Provence, France - A Beautiful Old Restored Mas in a Very Peaceful Location

A very special old house with wonderful views and an Infinity pool, five bedrooms and five bathrooms, this stunning large Mas is simply wonderful. Within walking distance of one of Provence's most popular villages, yet in a rural location, it has outstanding 180º views from it’s large landscaped garden which stretch over the vineyards and woodlands of the beautiful Vaucluse Plateau. The sun rises over Mont Ventoux in the east and sets over the Dentelles de Montmirail to the west. The village of Bedoin with it’s bars, restaurants and the famous Monday market is well situated to explore this beautiful corner of Provence. Here you will find walled market villages, and beautiful cities, such as nearby Avignon and Aix en Provence. There are the Roman wonders of Orange, Vaison La Romaine, and Arles, and for antique and brocante lovers, the famous markets at l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Avignon. Take the wine trail passing numerous caves, which will welcome you in to sample their delights. For the more energetic there is canoeing, walking the numerous beautiful marked trails, or just meandering, fishing, golf, flying, horse riding and tennis. Bedoin is of course at the foot of the famous Mont Ventoux.

About Sally and Peter Richardson

Sally and I (Peter) live in an old farmhouse on the Essex/Suffolk borders. Our family are now grown up and we have five grand-children. We both enjoy French cuisine, wine and travel. Sally is a keen artist and I have a strong interest in historic cars and run a small restoration business. I think it is fair to say that we also are both enthusiastic Francophiles.

Why Sally and Peter Richardson chose Ventoux - Carpentras area

We first visited this part of Provence in 1964, shortly after we were married, in order to take part in a sporting event, and fell in love with it at first sight. We have continued to visit almost every year since then initially bringing our children, and subsequently our grand-children, all of whom are equally passionate about the region. For us perhaps it’s greatest attraction is that in fifty years this area has changed little if at all. Arriving here is a step back in time, and consequently lifestyle. This is France at it’s very best, perpetual blue skies combined with wonderful local food, wine and friendly people. Access from the Autoroute, the TGV and three International Airports is also excellent with journey times of between 60 and 90 minutes.

What makes this house unique

To us one of the joys of both Flop House and La Maison de Lune is the utter peace and quiet of their location and yet within a twelve minute walk, or a four minute drive, you are in Bedoin with it’s excellent selection of restaurants, bars, boulangeries, shops and it’s Monday market. This operates throughout the year but during the Summer swells to such proportions that the whole town is closed to traffic. Here you will find wonderful fresh fish, local vegetables, charcuterie, olives, cheese, clothing and souvenirs, the list is endless.

Both houses also offer truly fantastic views of the foothills and indeed of Mont Ventoux itself, the Giant of Provence.

Notes on accommodation: The house faces south overlooking the large, paved ‘dining’ patio, upper garden and infinity swimming pool (14.5 x 5 metres). With the exception of two bathrooms every room in the main house faces southwards towards the views and all ground floor rooms, including the newer wing, have direct access via French doors to the patio and pool area. Flop House is well equipped and furnished in a contemporary, elegant style. It’s a light, spacious house of character in a beautiful setting. Outside: Patio area: shaded large dining table and chairs, BBQ, sun loungers, garden umbrellas. Garden: numerous places with small tables and chairs to enjoy the view, read or linger over an aperitif, table tennis. Pool: infinity pool 14.5 x 5 m, alarmed. Steps across shallow end of the pool. Utility Room: Large utility room with washing machine. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Please contact owner. Other: Between the kitchen and the sitting room is the dining room with French doors to the patio.
