House between Monflanquin & Villeneuve-sur-Lot, Lot et Garonne, Aquitaine / Dordogne, France - Perfect Setting To Unwind And Explore The Quaint Medieval Villages In The Surrounding Area

Carpentie Bas is a lovely property located in the depths of the rolling Lot et Garonne countryside with sweeping views across the valley. The property is situated in a peaceful rural area and comprises of the main house which has four comfortable bedrooms sleeping 10 people, a garden with trampoline and children's swings as well as a private swimming pool. Carpentie is set in an ideal location to get away from it all yet easily access (by car or bike) amenities and local attractions as well as the pretty neighbouring bastide towns with their weekly markets. The property is located between the picturesque towns of Monflanquin and Villeneuve sur Lot. (Please note a separate guest cottage is also on site which has 2 bedrooms and comfortably sleeps 4. This can be rented along with the main house but whilst charming and quaint it is quite rustic and not up to the same interior standard as the main house! Prices for the guest house are not included, should you wish to also rent this then please enquire).

My husband and I lived in Hong Kong for many years and dreamed of a house in France and also a European base for our 3 children. Many a happy holiday has been spent there and the house has a very special place in our hearts.

Since relocating back to the UK, our Base has changed somewhat so our lovely house is not used as much as it needs to be, hence owners direct!

Carpentie - a fantastic place!

We rented Carpentie for a week with another family and we were delighted to find it tucked away in an absolutely wonderful part of France. A perfectly located balcony enabled us to sit outside and enjoy the wonderful views, whilst sipping the local wines. The inside was fully decked out with all we needed along with a great washing machine and dish washer. The pool was fantastic - exactly as the photos depicted - and there were inflatables and balls etc - great fun for the children. It was also very close to some wonderful old towns with great markets. I would thoroughly recommend this country home.

Location

The Lot et Garonne is a beautiful part of France, in my opinion a hidden gem. It is still very French, I like the fact that you aren't automatically given an English menu for example, and the locals are very friendly. With the landscape ranging from vineyards, to plum orchards, sunflower fields and rolling hills, it really is a stunning area.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Bergerac at 35 Kilometres Car: necessary

Coast/Beach:

Whilst the Atlantic coast is approximately 2 hours drive away there are a number of leisure lakes with beaches in the area - the nearest being approximately 30 mins drive from the house.

Travel:

If travelling by train Agen would be the nearest town.

Toulouse airport is 90 mins and Bordeaux airport just under 2 hours drive.

Nearest channel port is St.Malo with an approximate drive of 5 hours and Calais 8 hours.

A car is definitely needed if renting this property.

Distances:

The nearest village is 4kms away from the house, St Aubin with basic amenities, a "depot de pain" and a restaurant.

The picturesque bastide town of Monflanquin is 7kms from the house with many shops and restaurants as well as a weekly market.

Villeneuve sur Lot resting on the banks of the River Lot is also 7kms drive offering a full range of amenities and restaurants.

Further Details:

The nearest large supermarket is 7kms from the property on the outskirts of Villeneuve sur Lot.

Monflanquin, the “local” bastide town which dates back to 1258, has a good selection of restaurants and shops. During August, there’s a medieval festival held over the course of several days, which offers much entertainment.

Penne d’Agenais is one of the most picturesque bastide villages you’re likely to see. Once a Cathar stronghold, this village perché (Penne is a Celtic word for hill crest) will appeal to the history buffs and the shoppers as it has many arts and crafts boutiques.

Monpazier (about a 30 minute drive away) is also a beautiful bastide and antique markets are held there. It’s frequented mainly by locals and is a great way to experience every day French living.

Villeneuve sur Lot is a 10 minute drive away and is good for day-to-day general shopping. It has some lovely independent boutiques where you can pick up some nice and unusual items. It’s definitely worth popping in to the local tourist office to get information on what’s happening in the area.

Villereal ( a 20 minute drive away) is very pretty and they have a market during the day and also an evening food market which is fun.

Parc en Ciel (Lacapelle Biron) is a fantastic adventure playground for all ages with treetop high suspended walkways through the forest, mini golf and a leisure pool. Some activities are not for the feint-hearted but the park caters for people of all ages. Less than 20 minutes by car.

You can rent kayaks and other boats for a jaunt down the River Lot from Porte de Penne or Villeneuve sur Lot.

Horse riding is available in Monflanquin.

Peace and relaxation!! There is a lot to see and do in the area but you can equally set up camp by the pool and only feel the need to leave to visit the local markets for essential supplies! If you are looking for a happening place with nightlife this is not for you!
