About the property

Apartment in Capileira, High Alpujarras, Las Alpujarras Andalucia, Spain - Far Beyond The Valley Lies Morocco, You Can Sunbathe Or Eat On The Vine Covered Terrace In Privacy

Welcome families, mountain bikers and walkers! This delightful flat can comfortably sleep 4 people and has a fantastic terrace. Below is kitted out as a self catering dorm for 4/6 with a bike storage area, bicycle work bench with repair tools and outdoor power hose for cleaning bikes available. There are two main large rooms, both halves of the flat can double up as a day and night space by opening up the sofas. Although Capileira is thriving, full of bars and restaurants, this part of the village is very quiet and you can sunbathe on the vine covered terrace in complete privacy. The flat is perfectly suited to couples, small families, a few friends or as hideaways for one. All bed linen and towels are provided. Despite being built by the Moors in the Middle Ages, this accommodation has a modern kitchen both upstairs and down, also new bathrooms and large Morso stoves for cosy warmth in the winter months. The place as a whole is a great mix of traditional Alpujarran style and modern. The fantastic walking ranges from gentle meadow strolls to full on mountain hiking. The village is a centre for walking and for accessing the mountains especially Mulhacén, generally treated as a two-day climb from Capileira with an overnight stop at a mountain refuge en route. Capileira is part of a trio of villages along with Bubion and Pampaniera, all of which are interconnected with rural footpaths that make wonderful, manageable walks. The village is an artists' paradise in this “land of the clear light” and it is possible to find courses to further your own skills. Guest access: There is a road which threads around the edge of the village and a parking spot at the end of this allows luggage and shopping to be brought down. There are steep steps and guests should be aware that some of the narrow streets are cobbled. For guests who come by bus, help with getting luggage down can be arranged. Interaction with guests: All guests can be met at the top of the village and walked down. Meeting and greeting will be done by a very competent Spanish friend of mine who lives in the village and will be on hand should you need any help. She speaks perfect English and her local knowledge is very useful and entertaining. This area is also a Mountain bikers' mecca… bikes can be hired and a tour guide provided locally. There is also the opportunity for skiing in the mountains. Not far from Granada is the ski station of Solinieve. Whether you hire a car in Malaga, or prefer to get around by the excellent local buses (the local bus company is Alsina Graelles and their timetables are available online) there is so much to do and see… the lively market in the nearest town Orgiva, or the tiny villages tucked in around the mountains. Granada and the Alhambra are just an hour or so away by bus. With the newly built fast road to the coast, beaches such as Salobrena are just over an hour away and Malaga airport is within easy reach (under 3hours).

About Henni Tremlett

Henni has the privilegeof looking after this property on behalf of her family. She is a busy mum of five kids, teacher, freelance writer (and bee keeper who lives most of the time in Wales). Calle Romana/Nueva in Capileira, Andalucia, Spain is a place that her family has spent time in for many years and is full of treasured family memories. Her close links with the village mean that she can ensure guests are well looked after.

Why Henni Tremlett chose Sierra Nevada Area

This property fell into the hands of my family like a falling star many many years ago. Over the years all the generations of my family and extended family have had little holidays here. Often I have lent the place out to friends who need to take stock of their life and heal, it is a magical space for healing, fun and romance!

What makes this apartment unique

Sun, fresh air, walking, friends and lots of beer and olives on the terrace.

Activity and Interests

Special interest holidays:

Walking and mountain biking is the business in this area, some good friends of ours are able to guide you in short or long walking or biking trails and they can also hire you mountain bikes and help with a work-bench, washing down bikes and spares and repairs. Also readily available in Capileira is flamenco dancing (a small but incredible school at the village square), painting by a friend nearby who is an expert in painting local scenes both in the day and by night), Spanish cooking.

Coast/Beach:

With the newly built fast road to the coast, beaches such as Salobrena are just over an hour away. The beaches between Salobrena are simple but clean and there are some fantastic yet inexpensive fish restaurants down on the beach themselves. Pedallos and sun loungers/shades can be hired for the day and the water is calm and clean.

Travel:

Malaga airport is within easy reach by car (under 2 and a half hours). Car hire is recommended as it frees you up to explore the other mountain villages with ease - off season the hire car from Malaga airport or nearby is really cheap.

Distances:

Whether you hire a car in Malaga, or prefer to get around by the excellent local buses (the local bus company is Alsina Graelles and their timetables are available online) there is so much to do and see… the lively market in the nearest town Orgiva (20 mins by car), or the tiny villages tucked in around the mountains - all within an hour's driving and many within twenty mins.

Granada and the Alhambra are an hour and a half away by car.

Further Details:

(Fantastic local mountain bike guides and reasonable high-quality bike hire based on the streets below Casa Capileira).

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: ust be careful on the terrace, accidents can happen (especially after the local sweet wine!) Parents would need to take extra care of their children on the terrace and near any steep drops in the village – personally, I never rely on Spanish safety barriers etc. No climbing on any of the roofs in Capileira. We would like the flat to be a no smoking zone please. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen are included in the price. There is a washing machine and drying line on the terrace if you need to wash towels etc during your visit. The flat will be cleaned and any linen washed at the end of your stay. Other: The terrace has bamboo screening that helps with privacy and also toddler management (although of course children should never be left unaccompanied out on the terrace). The village is very child-friendly as the streets are too narrow for cars.
