House and Cottage with pool in Saint-Pancrace, nr Brantome and Nontron, Dordogne, Aquitaine,- Peaceful Location; 10 Minutes from Brantome, Surrounded By Runs, Walks, Cycles And River Beaches

Our property has two houses which we restaurated over the past 16 years with lots of love and passion. It is situated in the middle of a national park, thereby surrounded by forests, rivers and hills; great for lots of different activities which you will find in our entertainment folder in the house.The pool was just recently built and we have lots of blow up toys for kids.

You can also book the entire property which sleeps 18 people in total. Just contact us.

The main house sleeps six adults plus 4 kids comfortably, and has a huge and well equiped kitchen as well a big playroom for the kids.

The house is kitted out with everything you could possibly need to have a great holiday. It opens on the courtyard, with a terrace, table and chairs, facing the gite which we converted from a barn and bread-oven.

The studio with bathroom is perfect for grandparents/nanny/couple with a baby, as it's adjacent to the house on the courtyard, but stand-alone and soundproofed. It's also got a hugely comfortable double bed in.

The gite has one big room at the top with two bedrooms underneath it, sleeping a total of six. We kept the rustic wood-fire oven in the kitchen, and built the bathroom on top of it.

The courtyard then leads in the back to the 10x5 pool and pool house.

There's a shower/toilet -room in the pool house, and then the bar, barbecue, stereo and table tennis. There is also another table and chairs by the pool.

Finally, if you have had enough with everyone, take yourself off to the bottom of the garden, and sit under the wallnut tree with a nice rosé, and no one will ever bother you...

The entire property is private and shielded from anyone else.

What's in the house..Everything; washing machine, dishwasher, fridges, freezers, mountain bikes, wifi, table tennis table, travel cots, baby monitors, golf clubs, colouring pencils, buckets of toys, corkscrews...

The town and what to do:

Saint-Pancrace is a very small and rural village. In the village is a bar, a church and a bread van that comes through every morning, with a blast of its horn to signal that time. Beautiful Brantôme is ten minutes away ("the Venice of the Perigord" apparently); Nontron is ten minutes away and Perigueux 30 minutes by car. All of them have amazing markets at least once a week, from where most of our food seems to come.

After such a long time there we know all the best restaurants, bars, river beaches, lakes, châteaux, vineyards, and are happy to share them with you in our entertainment folder which you will find in the house.

Can you manage without a car? Short answer...no. There are rental places at the aiports in Bordeaux (2 hours), Bergerac (90 mins), Limoge (2 hours) and at the SNCF in Angoulême (40 mins).

Beautiful location, well equipped gite

We spent a week in the refurbished bakery. The gite is beautifully and tastefully restored. The bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen very well equipped so that you could feel at home from a cooking perspective.

The location is perfect for a week "away from it all". It's situated in a very peaceful hamlet with beautiful walks direct from the door.

A bonus is the proximity to Brantome which is a fantastic town surrounded by its own moat - ideal for canoeing.

Highly recommended and we hope to return.

Home from home, a Fabulous place to stay.

We rented the entire property, with parents, children and grandchildren (9 adults and 3 children). There was more than enough space for more, if needed. Both properties are completely fully equipped with everything you would require. The properties have been updated to a high standard with some really quirky up cycling ideas, the shower's in the main house and guest room were amazing! The location is great for all, a lazy day by the beautiful pool, a walk around the village or a short drive in the car to many of the Heritage sights of the Dordogne. We have stayed in many houses in this area over the years, but none ticked the boxes half as much as this. Our final evening was made extra special as the barn owl nesting in the old barn behind the house decided to show itself and gave us a Fabulous show, amazing! Thank you for a truly wonderful family holiday.

Fantastic, spacious family getaway.

We have four, energetic boys and this was the perfect holiday destination. The house is set up brilliantly, all the amenities you have at home (and more). Very comfortable beds and well equipped bathrooms. Super play barn with bar and the pool area is quiet, high, with good views and is not overlooked at all.

It's the perfect rental for two families who can be independent of each other whilst having the benefits of holidays together.

Great spot - would highly recommend it!

family friendly, flexible and well stocked!

We rented the main house with friends, comfortably sleeping 9 all together. The kitchen is really well stocked with all the kit you might need, which is great as it feels like home from home. With 5 children from 2-8 it was fab to have the playroom complete with with lots of things to play with including books and games as well as table tennis in the bar and the pool of course. The location is great to explore and with wifi you can research as you go, we arranged a canoe trip, saw local caves, visited a number of local towns and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The property is in great condition, clearly well looked after i'd recommend it to anyone.

From the Owner

I bought it slightly by chance to be honest. I fell in love with the potential of the house, and discovered it was sandwiched between Brantome and Nontron only later. A very lucky break on my part.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Special interest holidays:

Wine. We are on the edge of both the Bergerac and the St Emilion regions, so the supermarkets are knee-deep in highly affordable great wine.


2 hours to the sea south of Bordeaux. There are lakes and river beaches 30 minutes away.


Our closest airports are Bordeaux (2 hrs), Bergerac (90 mins) and Limoges (90 mins). Car hire is available at all three airports.

We are approximately 5 hours from Saint Malo and Caen, 6 hours from Cherbourg and 8 hours from Calais.

Use of car is essential for getting around.


The house is in the village of Saint-Pancrace with its local bar (open lunchtimes and most evenings) and bread delivery van.

We are 10 minutes from Brantôme with its shops, bars, excellent boulangeries and Friday market.

The house is 15 minutes from Nontron (good for supermarket food shopping) and 30 minutes from Périgueux, the regional capital, which has great sight-seeing and shopping as well as a market on Wednesday and Saturday.

Further Details:

Brantôme has most facilities that you would need for a peaceful rural French holiday: a small Carrefour, Friday market, bars, banks and shops. There are also a number of canoe rental outfits in the town as on a sunny day there is nothing better than drifting quietly down the Dronne.

Nontron, 5 minutes further away than Brantôme, has two slightly larger supermarkets as well as banks, other shops and a market on a Saturday.

If you are looking for water, there are a number of really beautiful river beaches 20-30 minutes drive away, with enough sand to keep small children happy. You can picnic or one of them has a good bar/café with chips and ice cream. We are also within easy driving distance of the lakes of Saint-Estephe and La Jermaye. Saint-Estephe has a good cycle path around the edge to work off some energy.

Chateau Puyguilhem (10 minutes away) is an excellent outing: a rare example of a Loire chateau not in the Loire. The southern Dordogne is renowned for its limestone caves, and we have them in the north too in the shape of the Grottes de Villars near the Château.

Further afield, and for those with older children, we have recently discovered some excellent tree-climbing/zip-wiring (think Go Ape but French-style) the other side of Périgueux.
