Nice cosy cottage, for summer holidays or winter trekking, beaches and mountain

Cosy apartment which I called trekking cottage because most of my past guests said they enjoyed the trekking in this area or along the best beaches in Europe.

It can sleep up to 4 persons comfortably with plenty of space, there is one very large bedroom with double bed, a long corridor leading to a large bathroom with shower etc, next to the bathroom is a utility room with washing machine, next is the kitchen which is based on an old styled kitchen with the original sink in porcelain, there is an archway to a large living room with table and chairs, sofa which converts into a bed for 2 persons, wood burning heater which runs on wood pellets. For the winter trekkers, Outside there is a view of the mountain, lots of trees and plants.

The Windows have wooden shutters which can be opened or closed, these help keep the inside cool in the hot summer days.

One of the main features with this property is its peaceful setting in a small village with around 200 habitants.There is a small shop, a local church and school. Outside there are views of the mountain and the sound of birds that will bring a nice feeling of being close to nature, ample parking. Close by there the park of Marganai which is a nature reserve and renowned for its natural beauty rare plants and flowers, plus it has one of the oldest forests in Europe. Iglesias is just 5klm around 6 mins by car, beaches around 15 mins by car so making this an ideal location for a relaxing holiday. This area is a good base for exploring the beaches north and south and there are many, and many people return to San Benedetto for that reason. The apartment is in a perfect location with easy access to north and south beaches, plus just 45 mins drive from Cagliari airport.

From September onwards this area takes on a whole new different meaning, as the main tourists head off back home as the kids return to school, then arrive the more adventurous people who don't want just sunbathing on a sandy beach, they want to explore this very undiscovered place of the Sulcis of Iglesias on the south west coast of SARDINIA.

Trekking has become very popular right through the winter months, as the climate is perfect with organized groups or just do your own thing, but without help you may miss some of the best things or routes. I can also help you with that and am more than willing to show you around.

The cottage is perfect for this with many routes just outside your door to the old mountain passes or a short drive to some of the best coastal trekking you will find.

Then when you return to the cosy cottage with the wood burner which runs on wood pellets roaring away because you set the timer to come on prior to your return, then open a nice full bodied red wine that you bought when you went wine tasting at our local vineyard at Aru winery, which I can arrange. In fact if you like we can even trek there from the cottage and return by car.

Also many sports are available in this area, and some things can be hired all you need to do is ask and I'm sure it's here.

Rock climbing is available at Domusnovas, masua, Punta pilocca, all within a short distance.

For those who dont want to drive i can offer free pick up from the train station at Iglesias, where there is a link from Cagliari airport.

My name is Stephen Morgan I moved to Iglesias in Sardinia to get out of the rat race and have not looked back since. Sardinia is a beautiful country and in terms of tourism is very undiscovered and a peaceful place to live. This property was first one house on two floors, i then turned it into two small apartments when i restored it. Mainly so my grown up children can use it for holidays etc, but in the end i decided to sale one of them as my family always ended up staying with me, because they like my cooking i think? Anyway it is now available to rent as a holiday home, i think it is in a nice location very quiet, not to far from the beaches, close to Iglesias, and surrounded by mountains keeping it cool in the long hot summers we enjoy here. Parking is no problem there is ample space outside. Cagliari is just 45 mins by car making this an ideal vacation rental.

You will find if you decide to stay in San Benedetto, there is a host of outdoor activities which you can do, as this property is situated in a protected area and nature reserve. There is trekking on your doorstep, along with mountain biking (this is very popular in this area. There are also many rock faces for climbers close by. Also in this area you will find Nuraghe which is an iron age house there are many along with caves, temples, and many ancient churches. And of course a must is Iglesias itself a lovely little town full of old narrow streets, churches, and many museums. You will find a host of bars, and retuarants in Iglesias which can get lively in the summer months, there are many festivals in Iglesias the biggest and the best being Easter.

In the lower season i do not mind showing people around as your own private guide or taking you on hiking or biking expeditions.

Coast/Beach:

There are many beaches in Iglesias the closest beach is Funtanamare which is just 15 mins by car. All the beaches in this area are of sand and are very safe for bathing when the sea is calm of course. A bit further north just 20 mins by car is Masua this is very popular with families and can get busy. But i have to say Cala Domestica has to be my favorite and only 45 mins by car. Then after you will find Buggerru portixeddu, Scivu, Arbus.

Then if you head south there is Porto Paglia, Spiagge di Mezzo,Punta Serena, Portoscuso, Sant'Antioco, Calasetta, there are so many beaches in this area you will need a month and still not see them all.

Travel:

The nearest airport is Cagliari which is 50 klm and takes 45 mins by car there are also bus and rail links which will take you to Iglesias.

Distances:

Iglesias is around 8 klm

Cagliari 56 klm

Places of interest there are many in this region all within a very short distance, it all depends on what you are looking for, so it may be better to check on the web.Most are linked to the mining era or back to the medeval times which Iglesias is famouse for.

Further Details:

You will need to go to Iglesias for shops, banks, supermarkets, bars and restaurants. Although there is a small shop in San Benedetto which sales most itiems if stuck.

Pick up and drop off service is available and complete packages can be arranged including daily trips to different places etc.

I supose the main feature has to be that it is so peaceful and quiet, and the coolness you feel on returning from a hot beach. There is all the normal outdoor recreation on hand with some lovely walks. If you love peace and quiet you will love this place. it is a paradise for outdoor recreation like Mountain biking, trekking, rock climbing, bird watching. Who wants crowded beach locations?

  • Notes on accommodation: This is a nice property and everyone is welcome but it may not be suitable for very small children or a person disabled as there is a split level floor which is tiled. You will find that the property stays very cool inside due to the thick walls, and a pleasure when you return from the beach or a trek. But most of all leave it as you found it please. Outside: Outside there is a large tree which shades the property in the heat of the day keeping the place cool in the summer months, but air con is available for those who need it but not included in prices. ample parking, there is an area to put the BBQ but it is not attached to the house. The road outside is only for the houses in that rank so no traffic. Utility Room: Washing machine, ironing board, iron, wardrobe, towels and linen. Bedding and linen is supplied also towels for washing and showering (not for the beach) The property is cleaned before you arrive. Gas and electric are inc from May to Oct.
