Guestbook comments from the owner

Wow! What a perfect, comfortable, inviting, quaint cottage set in a beautiful village amongst the Broads. There is absolutely everything you could possibly need to make this cottage what it is, exceptional!

We have stayed in many cottages across the country for Christmas but Goleby's cottage is by far, the best. The owners (who were most helpful throughout, providing lots of information about everything in the area) had very kindly laid on little Christmas presents for us and our dog and decorated the cottage beautifully, the roaring fire and underfloor heating made it just that little bit more special too. The local pub (Greyhound) about 100m away was also very welcoming and a traditional country pub with great staff and food. We will be returning to the cottage this year hopefully and can not wait to get back there.

Due to having family in Norwich and also loving Norfolk we have had many visits to Nelsons county. This is the only cottage we would want to return to. Golebys is very tranquil and peaceful which allowed us to completely unwind over our 2 week stay.Because of the location we were able to pop to local beaches for dog walks as well as Broadland walks. We were also able to visit Norwich frequently to see my family and watch my beloved Norwich City.We also took in Blakeney,Cromer and Southwold. After long days out walking it was wonderful to return to by far the best equipped cottage we have stayed in .The attention to detail was second to none. We would like to thank Annie and Sean for their hospitality and also helpful communications both before and during our stay.

Golby's cottage was the perfect location for exploring the Broads and beyond. We were able to come back and relax and enjoy the comforts of the cottage after a day out. The cottage is exceptionally well equipped with everything you need for a self catering break, but also with some excellent extras such as iPod decks and WiFi. The owners Annie and Sean have clearly thought through everything to make it a relaxing stay, including a welcome pack for us and our wee dog! They really went the extra mile. We would thoroughly recommend Golby's and Hickling and we hope to return again.

Location

From the Owner

The first time we saw the village of Hickling and the cottage we fell in love with it. The locals are warm and welcoming and the broads, beaches and wildlife re-charge you.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

Close to the Norfolk Broads and the Norfolk coast. Less than 10 minutes drive to the nearest beach of Sea Palling, just 3 miles away. Beautiful stretches of golden sand, family and dog friendly. A seal colony can be seen at Horsey just 16 minutes drive around Hickling Broad.

Travel:

A car is recommended to explore the area but not essential due to the local bus service.

Distances:

Essentials can be purchased in a local pub and Stalham is 2.5 miles with its high street shops, butchers, takeaways and a Tesco store.

Further Details:

Hickling Broad is the largest of the broads which can be explored by boat or pathways. The Nature Reserve run by Norfolk Wildlife Trust provides the perfect location for bird watching. Birds you can expect to see are the common crane, bittern, march harrier, bearded tit, cetti's warbler, barn owls and king fisher. The reserve is also home to the chinese water deer, red deer, otters and local specialities - the swallow tail butterfly and Norfolk hawker dragonfly.

Other local activities include horse riding in the village, cycling, walking and fishing.

Facilities

From the Owner

Goleby's Cottage is set back from the lane and has an enclosed garden to welcome you. Over the last 8 years we have renovated the cottage to create a home from home for our guests. The cottage is cool in Summer and cosy in Winter with the under floor heating and log burner. Each year we have added new planting to the garden and enjoyed the resident birdlife bringing up their families. Just a 2 minute stroll, The Greyhound pub welcomes all, including children and dogs. They serve a range of food and local ales. A 15 minute stroll will take you to Hickling Broad, the largest of the broads. You will also pass the Norfolk Wildlife Trust nature reserve with a wealth of wildlife. The Pleasure Boat Inn provides great views over the broad and has a small shop for provisions.
