Sleeps 2. One Bed Apartement Over Two Floors

Updated: 06-Apr-2016
Apartment in Saint-Jean-du-Gard, Nr. Anduze, Gard, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - In A Quiet Street, Central To This Lively, Interesting Town

St Jean is steeped in history and rich in culture. It was central to the Camisard resistance in the 16th century. Robert Louis Stephenson travelled with his donkey until he reached St Jean. A thriving silk industry created wealth, now long gone, in the 19th century. An excellent museum documents all this and more These days this small town is full of restaurants, cafes, street markets, itinerant musicians and boule players. There's a heritage steam train from St Jean to Anduze via the Bambouseraie - 84 acres of botanical gardens specialising in bamboo! Plenty to fill a week without taking to the hills or resorting to the car.
