Apple Loft Cottage,a converted stone barn is situated down a quiet single track lane just one mile from Buckfastleigh. Set within four acres of land in a valley with the river Dart running along the back of the property, it is surrounded by rolling Devon farmland and is just minutes from Dartmoor National Park.
Apple Loft Cottage, whilst attached to the owners B&B, is very private and has its own patio area but with the added benefit of the 4 acre grounds around it. The cottage consists of a lounge/dining area with an oak beamed ceiling and three windows looking out to the patio area and gardens. The kitchen leads off of the lounge and is well equipped with everything you need to rustle up a delicious meal. The downstairs shower room, whilst compact, is of a contemporary style with shower cubicle and power shower and a wash bowl mounted on a shaker style cabinet. The characterful bedroom is located upstairs under another beamed ceiling with windows on both sides. The cottage is furnished with flair and is of a very high standard and is a mix of antique and contemporary furniture. There is off-road parking for one car in front of the cottage.
The cottage is one mile from the centre of Buckfastleigh which is an easy 10 minuted stroll to the high street. Buckfastleigh has a good selection of amenities including a supermarket that is open daily early to late, a farm shop selling local produce, several pubs, a great family run restaurant, a coffee shop and a traditional tearoom. Locally there are several other farm shops selling high quality local produce including Dean Court Farm shop and Riverford Organics.
There are many great places to eat out within the local area - including the Bakers Oven in Buckfastleigh, The Riverford Field Kitchen, The Cott Inn at Dartington, The Church House Inn at Rattery to name just a few.
Some of the attractions close to the cottage include Buckfast Abbey, the South Devon Railway, the Butterfly farm and otter sanctuary, Riverford Field Kitchen and The Ashburton Cookery School. The Elizabethan town of Totnes is just 6 miles away, and the coastal towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe just 45 minutes by car.

About the Owner
We are Julia & Martin and we moved to Devon from Wiltshire in 2006 to renovate & run a B&B "Kilbury Manor" a former farm house dating from early 1700. Julia previously worked in banking and Martin still works in the electronics industry.
Having completed renovations on the house and barn, in 2009 we decided to run Apple Loft Cottage as a holiday let. We have enjoyed receiving guests throughout the year ever since.
We have two delightful dogs - Buster and Dillon who make sure we get out and about daily. We love the area - it is simply beautiful at any time of the year. It is very green and lush. The pace of life is slower and the people, very friendly. Even in the height of summer, you can find somewhere quiet to walk but the area really is stunning all year round.

Well located, clean with comfy bed and well equipped kitchen.
Our stay was very pleasant, although we were surprised on our arrival to find a message on the door
to say that the owners had gone away, leaving a local phone number for emergencies. When they returned
from their trip, no attempt was made to communicate with us, even though they lived next door. The owner
spoke briefly to my wife outside, to ask her to move the car, as four other guests were arriving on the Saturday,
and that was all. This did not make us feel especially welcome as paying guests. The final indignity was that their dog messed right outside the door of our cottage, close to our car, on the morning we left, which was unfortunately trodden in.
Apple Loft Cottage
This was the second time we have stayed at Apple Loft Cottage and we hope to visit again soon. The property offers excellent accommodation for two people and is well equipped,well furnished, very clean and maintained to a high standard. The cottage is well located for visiting and spending time on Dartmoor. The owners, Julia and Martin live at the Manor House, to which the cottage is attached and run a a Bed & Breakfast business. They maintain a very high standard of customer service. We would highly recommend this property, without hesitation.
An absolute gem!
This lovely cottage is the top of our list of holiday cottages and being retired, we have stayed in quite a few! It is so well equipped with total comfort, beautifully clean and close to all that Dartmoor has to offer. Julia and Martin work so hard to make the stay the best it can be providing those extras on arrival of milk, yummy home made cake, coffee and fresh flowers on the table. The large bed is so comfortable it's tempting to stay put! The surrounding countryside is also a joy and the icing on the cake is the South Devon steam trains chugging their way from Buckfastleigh to Totnes just a short distance from the property.
The cottage was fitted out to a very high standard with lovely grounds kept neat and tidy.Owners made us welcome as soon as we arrived and made sure we enjoyed our stay.The cottage was spotlessly clean and in a lovely area.

Dartmoor National Park is simply stunning with acres of moorland, rivers and woodland. It offers peace and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Then there are the historic towns to visit - Totnes, Ashburton and Dartmouth offer unique shops, galleries and restaurants. Within 45 minutes by car you will find the beautiful coastal resorts of the South Hams - Salcombe, Bantham & Bigbury to the south, Teignmouth & Shaldon to the east. The pace of life is really so much more relaxed here and the countryside is just stunning at any time of year.”
Activity and Interests
The coastal areas of the South Hams are a 40 minute drive from the cottage. These include the picturesque towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth, taking in the unspoilt beaches of Bantham and Bigbury. Going east, the seaside resorts of Teignmouth and Shaldon are about 45 minutes away. The nearest beach can be found at Broadsands, offering a small sandy beach and good headland walks to the fishing town of Brixham.
The nearest railway station is Totnes (6 miles away) where a bus or taxi can be taken. Exeter airport is the nearest airport at 24 miles away. A car is highly recommended for a weeks stay at the cottage as most of Dartmoor is not accessible by public transport. Plymouth has a ferry port and is 23 miles from Buckfastleigh.

Bookings will be confirmed by e-mail and at the time of booking a 30% deposit is required which can be paid either by cheque or direct bank transfer. The outstanding balance is required eight weeks prior to arrival.
Our change over day is Saturday. We try to be flexible with shorter breaks but would prefer the stay to start or finish on a Saturday if at all possible.
Notes on prices:
Short breaks are available October to March, a minimum three nights required. We are happy to consider short breaks during the other months, so please enquire about availability/rates.
At the time of booking a deposit of 30% of the total cost is required, with the balance being paid eight weeks prior to arrival. Payment can be made either by cheque or bank transfer.

There is an antique pine dressing table and a French armoire, two painted side tables, carpet on the floor and pretty linen curtains.

- Notes on accommodation: There is free WiFi in the cottage, TV & DVD player. The cottage is heated by gas central heating, with radiators in all rooms. In addition, in the lounge there is an electric wood burner effect stove which quickly heats up the room on chillier evenings. There is insufficient space for a travel cot or fold-up bed, so the maximum number of guests allowed in the cottage is two, with a minimum age of eight if a child is included in the couple. There is a strict no smoking policy and pets are not allowed. Outside: Parking for the cottage is right outside the cottage on a cobbled area by the front door. To the side of the cottage, there is a patio area enclosed by a stone wall with garden table and chairs. This looks down towards a pond and the orchard beyond. The main house sits in about 4 acres of grounds, and guests are welcome to use the main garden belonging to the B&B which consists of a large lawned area with sun loungers and seats, flowers beds, trees and shrubs. You can walk down to the river from the meadow behind the house. The gardens are quiet and relaxing, with water running down a rill in to the pond. To the back of the house, the South Devon Railway (a tourist attraction) runs from April to October, with steam trains tooting as they pass. Utility Room: There is no utility room but should guests require any items to be laundered, we are happy to do this usually free of charge. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Quality towels and bed linen are provided, together with bathrobes. These are changed once a week and the cottage is also cleaned on a weekly basis.
