House in Marminiac, Lot, Midi-Pyrenees, France - Tranquil Rural Location - Completely Private

This large traditional rustic Perigordian stone farmhouse is located near the pretty village of Marminiac in the Lot. It is the perfect retreat from a busy modern life with lots of space – fantastic for a large family or a group of friends. It has recently undergone a complete restoration which sympathetically incorporated many of the original features like the wooden beams and stone walls which are up to 20 inches thick in places. This helps to maintain a lovely ambient temperature during the summer. It is totally private with mature woods and large grounds surrounding it. It also has apple, pear and a fig trees amongst others – Feel free to help yourself. Between the main house and the annex is a picturesque eating area overlooking the large pool and covered terrace - perfect for staying out of the midday sun. The house is within easy reach of all the tourist attractions of the Lot and Dordogne including Sarlat (about 30 minutes away), Domme (25 minutes), and Cahors around 35 minutes. The nearest village is Marminiac which has a very pleasant café/restaurant and Cazals is only 5 minutes away where you will find a bank, post office, bakers, butchers, mini-supermarket, cafes and restaurants. It also has a large market every Sunday where you can by fantastic local produce. Borde Basse will not disappoint - the perfect summer getaway for you and your family.

When you come and holiday in this region you are literally spoiled for choice when it comes to places to see and things to do.

This area is famous for it's gastronomy, it's historical sites and Chateaux, as well as it's world famous caves such as Lascaux. Whether you prefer relaxing by the pool, or taking part in the many activities available in this region, such as canoeing, wine tours, boat trips, trekking, horse riding, hot air ballooning, painting or cooking retreats - there is something for everybody.

If you want to try some of the local foie gras or taste the world famous Cahors wine, or you like truffles from Lalbenque, then this property provides the perfect base to explore.

Based on the quieter Lot River you will find the medieval capital of the Lot - Cahors - famous Valentré bridge and dark wine which the Romans loved. Also on the Lot river is Saint Cirq Lapopie - voted year after year as France's most beautiful village. The drive along the river has also been voted on of the best in France. Drive west along the Lot and there are plenty of picturesque villages like Puy L'Eveque.

Head north to the Dordogne and within a very short distance you have a selection of amazing Chateaux including Castlenaud and Beynec, as well as La Roque Gageac - these are all Villages of France. The narrow cobbled streets of the medieval town of Sarlat will transport you to another time and has some fantastic restaurants where you can sit and people watch while enjoying local delicacies such as duck confit and gesiers.

If you're into gardening then you must try and visit Château de Marqueyssac, Manor d'Eyrignac and Château des Milandes (where Joséphine Baker used to live) - all have spectacular gardens.

This region is also famous for its caves. Padirac, Pech Merle and Lascaux are all within reach for a day trip. How about canoeing, mountain biking, trekking, horse riding, high-line courses in the trees or hot air-ballooning? All are available in the region.

  • Notes on accommodation: This property is perfect for two large families, a group of friends or perhaps a family reunion. It's seclusion and location help provide a quiet place to unwind and get away from all the hustle and bustle of modern life. You will get a sense of stepping back in time whilst also enjoying luxury fixtures and fittings. Outside: Borde Basse is set in 7 acres of garden surrounded by mature woodland. Outside the main entrance to the rear of the property is a pleasant lawn with roses and a grapevine providing a shaded area. Through the open arch you'll find yet another eating area which then leads on to the very large private pool (12m x 5m). This also has a large patio and a wooden gazebo with more places to sit. Here you will also fine a large BBQ, perfect for entertaining outside. There is so much to see and explore and you can rest assured that it is totally private as well. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are of excellent quality and are included in the price. These are renewed at every change over. Other: The sauna is situated in the annex and has a wood-fired stove which is easy to use.
