About the property

Villa in Praia da Luz, Central, yet quiet location, 80m from the beach. Use of private pools & tennis courts

NB our cancellation policy is very reasonable: more than 8 weeks: the booking deposit, between 4 and 8 weeks: 75% of the total rental cost, less than 4 weeks: 100% of the total rental cost.

Our modern, very comfortably furnished semi-detached villa with magnificent 180°sea views is set in the heart of the village of Praia da Luz, only 80m from the beach. Its central, yet quiet location is perfect for those who want a relaxing self-catering holiday. The villa is relatively unique in that it is one of the few that is in the heart of the village and can sleep eight people in four bedrooms. It has recently been extensively refurbished including the installation of a pellet burner, new bathrooms, new windows and electric shutters throughout. The bedrooms have been insulated and air conditioning installed in three of the bedrooms. In 2018 a small fourth bedroom with en-suite bathroom has been created. Wifi is included. Beach towels are also included in addition to bathroom towels. The safe beach offers a range of water sports in the Summer months and the area boasts a number of nearby golf courses.

The villa is three storey with the entrance on the first floor where there are two bedrooms - one double room (double bed) and one twin bedded room (both have sea views and air conditioning). On this floor, there is also a bathroom and small storage room. Leading off the hall, there are two marble staircases, one leads down to the ground floor where the master bedroom (king size bed) and large en-suite walk-in shower room are situated and this also has air conditioning . Opposite the master bedroom is a recently converted room with a daybed which converts to a single bed and which also pulls out to create a double bed - this room is ideally suited to children but will also accommodate adults. This room also has a small en-suite bathroom. Both main bathrooms benefit from heated towel rails. There is a main door at ground floor level which leads into the walled garden. Patio doors from the downstairs bedrooms also open onto the garden which benefits from sunshine all day long.

The garden has a secure gate, sun loungers, shower and BBQ area. The other staircase from the hall leads up to the open plan living accommodation. With large glass windows, this area is light and bright and has a well equipped kitchen. The large wrap around balcony offers the perfect setting for alfresco dining with fabulous 180° sea views. Shade is provided by a large, retractable sun canopy.

Guests also enjoy membership of the Luz Bay Hotel and its facilities which is in close proximity to the villa. This includes six passes for the adult, family and toddler swimming pools (additional passes can be purchased from the hotel on a daily basis). There are also facilities such as sauna, massage and Turkish baths available (bookable locally). Membership of the Jonathan Markson Tennis Academy with three astro tennis courts is also included, rackets and balls can also be hired and coaching can also be arranged. There are plenty of water sports activities on the beach (seasonal) and numerous golf courses in close proximity, including Penina, Palmares, Parque da Floresta, Espiche and Boavista. Free Wi-Fi and multi-channel TV are provided.

There are opportunities to book personal training or yoga sessions or group fitness classes/bootcamps - details can be provided upon request.

The villa can be rented for up to six people using three bedrooms and two bathrooms or for up to eight people using four bedrooms and three bathrooms - the latter will incur a small additional fee (see rates for details).

About Susan Fairlie

We are Susan and Nick Fairlie from Malvern, Worcestershire. We first fell in love with Luz village over 30 years ago and have been regular visitors with our four children and family friends ever since!

We have recently set up our own businesses in healthcare consultancy and commercial real estate and this has afforded us more time to visit our favourite place.

Despite our 'children' being grown up, they still love to return to Luz as the village holds very happy memories for them. As toddlers they all learned to swim here and as they got older Chico (who runs the water sports on the beach front) taught them to water-ski too. As teenagers, they naturally wanted to begin to sample the nightlife in Luz and latterly in nearby Lagos.

Why Susan Fairlie chose Luz

This is an ideal holiday home, with lots of character, however the location is what sets it apart. It has the most amazing sea views and is situated in a quiet, yet central location only 80 metres from the beach and with local amenities (supermarket, restaurants etc.) all within a three minute walk.

There's truly something special about waking up to beautiful ocean views and not having to use a car is a real bonus!

In addition, the close proximity to the bustling, cosmopolitan harbour town of Lagos with its old cobbled streets was a definite attraction.

What makes this villa unique

The USP is definitely the views and central location! Free wifi. Air-conditioning in three of the bedrooms and pellet burner (for the Winter months) in the living area. There are numerous water related sports and activities available on Luz beach. Boat trips to the nearby grottoes and caves are popular as are Dolphin watching and big game fishing trips.

Slightly further afield are the renowned surfing beaches on the Algarve's silver coast which offer unspoiled and beautifully secluded beaches. For families the popular water parks of Slide & Splash and The Big One are a short distance away. Luz and Lagos boast a number of fine restaurants and bars catering for an eclectic range of tastes, offering everything from freshly grilled local fish to succulent steaks and piri-piri chicken.

Notes on accommodation: The house and fittings are modern and in excellent condition. The kitchen and living area are on the second floor to take advantage of spectacular views. Two bedrooms are situated on the first floor and two on the ground floor (with doors into the walled garden). They are all light and airy and three have sea views. All bedrooms are secure having electric shutters. For Winter guests we have installed a pellet burner in the lounge. There is air-con/heaters for three of the bedrooms. Please note that since February 2014 UK broadcasters (SKY & FREESAT) have discontinued service to southern Europe. However we have installed a new dish which offers multi channels including all BBC channels. There are also DVD and CD players available for use. Outside: A large walled garden, sun loungers, parasols and BBQ area as well as dining table and six chairs. The balcony on the second floor has a large marble table and six chairs (extra table & chairs provided if 8 people are renting) with a large retractable sun canopy. Utility Room: cleaning equipment, iron, ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and linen included. High quality bedlinen is provided (hotel quality 300-600 thread count). Bedlinen changed weekly. Towels are high quality (100% Egyptian cotton) and changed twice weekly. Maid service weekly. Other: Large balcony with marble table, six chairs. Retractable sun canopy. Walled garden with BBQ, table and chairs and six sun loungers.

Well appointed and perfectly situated Villa. Close to beach, shops and restaurants and private.

This is a modern and well looked after Villa that is perfect for a couple(s) or family.

The wrap around balcony provides wonderful views of sunrise and sunset, while the ground floor walled garden attracts sun while providing shelter from ocean breezes during the off season.

All amenities are new and well maintained.

Weekly linen and towel service is a delight.

The owner’s are very personable and attentive to thier guests.

If you are lucky to visit Luz, this Villa is icing on the cake!

Perfectly relaxing

The booking was made for a girly week and we were treated to an exceptionally convenient and beautifully presented holiday home with stunning views towards the sea and Luz. Only a 4 minute walk from the beach, shops and restaurants. Everyone slept well in comfortable beds and the balcony/patio with views off the kitchen living room made for a very sociable time. I would definitely recommend this holiday home.

A magnificent town house in a superb location.

The property is fantastically equipped with magnificent sea views to 3 sides of the house. Stunning living area with sea views and great balcony for al fresco dining. The house too is oñly a couple of minutes walk to the beach, local restaurants and bars but the property itself is quiet and secluded.

The property is ideal for families or couples and I can highly recommend it.

Wonderful time had by all

The villa is of an extremely high standard, both in terms of facilities and location. All three bedrooms are well appointed with plenty of storage, very comfortable beds and excellent air conditioning. There are two well finished bathrooms, with the en suite to the master bedroom particularly impressive. There is a well-equipped kitchen with everything you could want, but the highlight for us was the lounge area on the second floor with amazing sea view on one aspect and Luz church on the other giving fabulous views at any time of day or night.

The location itself was ideal, an easy five minute walk to the beach, shops, restaurants and lively promenade, but still managed to be tranquil at night. We found prices in the resort to be very reasonable, especially considering the falling pound at the time. We also made use of the local buses, with the bus stop less than a minute from the villa, to travel in to Lagos on a very cheap and reliable service.

Our party, ranging in age from 11 to 75 years, were all extremely impressed with what the villa (and Luz) had to offer and certainly didn’t want to leave and, indeed, will return.

All-in-all, the owner’s description of the property is far too modest, with this being the best value private rental we have ever had.

Beautiful villa in a stunning locations

Just back from two weeks in this fantastic villa. Having stayed in many properties in Spain and Portugal over the last 15 or so years, we genuinely found this one to be exceptional. Not only is the house itself really lovely, but the views from the upstairs balcony are stunning.

The house is stylishly decorated throughout - and recent improvements include electric shutters, electric awning, and new bathrooms and so on, make the house feel very well maintained and easy for guests to use and enjoy.

The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery which is great - some houses literally provide 6 of everything which is always a bit 'mean'. And loved having proper teapot, kettle and toaster - lots of villas and apartments don't have them!

Towels and bed linen changes at appropriate intervals was appreciated and we also good use of washing machine and outdoor clothes line.

We really loved Luz - first visit and won't be our last - friendly, attractive, walkable village with great choice of restaurants and easy access to the beach. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and felt very lucky to have found such a well appointed and furnished house in a fabulous location - I've a feeling we'll be back!

Location

Car: not necessary

Coast/Beach:

The Villa is 80m from the beautiful Praia da Luz beach which offers safe bathing, rock pools, many water sports, excellent beach bars, restaurants and seaside shops. There are numerous other unspoilt beaches in close proximity and the West coast beaches (ideal for surfers) are approximately a 30 minute drive away. Walk to Burgau (1 hour) or drive there in 8 minutes. Meia Praia at Lagos is 10 minutes by car or bus.

Travel:

Faro airport is just over 50 minutes drive away, accessed primarily by a motorway. We can recommend a car hire or taxi firm for your convenience.

Distances:

The Villa is in the heart of Praia da Luz village and the bustling harbour town of Lagos is a 10 minute drive away. For the more strenuous, there is a coastal walk from Luz to the quaint fishing village of Burgau with its lovely beach and delightful restaurants.

Further Details:

The main bus stop and taxi rank in Luz are very close by as are the two main supermarkets and Bank.

For those who like to cook, the kitchen is well equipped. However, there are numerous restaurants both along the sea front and tucked away to choose from. There are a selection of takeaways and restaurants including traditional Portuguese/Mediterranean/South African//Italian/Indian & Chinese. There are many bars - a full information folder with details of restaurants, bars, local activities, market days, taxis etc. is available in the villa.

We highly recommend the Sunday Jazz lunch at the Fortaleza restaurant garden with beautiful sea views.

Booking Notes:
A non-refundable deposit of 30% of the cost of the holiday is required on booking. Normal booking by email or phone, in sterling. Balance to be paid no later than eight weeks prior to arrival.

A £250 breakages/damage deposit is required, payable when the balance is due, which is refunded approx. one week after the end of the stay.


Changeover Day:
Changeover day is flexible. Check in to the Villa from 2pm onwards and checkout by 10am. Where possible we will try to be accommodating about check-in and check-out times.

Notes on prices:
The above pricing is for up to six people using three bedrooms and two bathrooms. If guests require the additional bedroom and en-suite bathroom, then depending upon the time of year, this will incur an additional charge of between £30 - £50 per night (maximum occupancy will then be eight people).
If you have a specific requirement, please call us and we will do our best to accommodate you.
