Beautiful luxury gites with pool nr Saumur, in heart of rural Loire Valley - Fleur de Lys 2 bedroom Cottage (Sleeps 4)

Overview

Property

Updated: 21-Oct-2016
Heart of the Loire Valley - Peaceful location. Ideal touring base close to Saumur, Bauge & Le Mans.

Our cottage is situated on a country lane. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and quiet country lanes. There are so many villages and country lanes to explore –either on foot or by bicycle.

Our lovely cottages are to be found on our 2 acres of land with open countryside all around us, which means there is always lots of wildlife to hear and see. The summer brings such a great range of butterflies and also dragonflies to the garden.

We are a short drive away from the Loire river and its many stunning towns and villages, such as Saumur, Chinon, Bourgeuil, Montsoreau, Villandry, Chenonceau, Amboise, Fontevraud Abbey to name but a few - what an ideal location to explore one of the prettiest and most stunning parts of the world!

We have 2 charming holiday rental cottages for you to enjoy, each have their own individual charm and private space to relax. Our Fleur de Lys Cottage has 2 bedrooms and can sleep up to 4 people. Our Coquelicot Cottage has one bedroom and sleeps 2 people. We would be delighted if your party of 6 would like to visit. Each cottage has been lovingly restored to a high standard that combines both character and comfort - we are confident that you will leave feeling relaxed and recharged.

We have got a pool so you can relax and cool down on those hot summer days.

Don't forget the Le Mans 24 hour race in June, and the Classic 24 hour in July. The Tour De France passes nearby in July in two locations this year 2016.

Classic Grand Prix car race in Puy De Notre Dame is a great spectacular also late July.

The vines are ripe for harvest some time September through to October, many fairs and occasions occur throughout the spring, summer and autumn.

Don't miss your opportunity to take home some great memories.

About the Owner

We are Carol & Carl Mills and are from the UK. One of the first things we did when we first met, was to go on holiday to the Loire Valley. We fell in love with this wonderful part of France, as well as with each other. We loved the region so much, we decided to buy our French home in the Loire Valley. We called it Notre Petit Coin, ‘our Little Corner’ of France. We really love sharing our little secret corner of the Loire and allowing our special guests to explore the many exciting sides to the Loire region.

Peaceful, relaxing setting.

  • 4 of 5

We shall find it hard to forget the gorgeous setting of Coquelicot Cottage – it is the most relaxing place to sit and read, drink wine, have breakfast, lunch and dinner… The cottage was lovely and clean, well maintained and restored without losing the history of the building. The pool was very welcome too as we managed to coordinate our stay with a heatwave. Carol and Carl are lovely hosts – warm and friendly, but respectful and had some great ideas of what to do and see. The cottage is in a perfect place – really in the countryside, but supermarkets are a quick drive, along with Chateaux, markets, restaurants and wine tastings. Yearning to come back.

Owner's Response: We're really glad you had such a peaceful, relaxing time here in our 'little corner' of France. You're right - even though we are in the gorgeous countryside, amongst the country lanes, fields and wildlife, we are still close to all the local amenities in La Fleche or Baugé as well as all the attractions in the Loire Valley. Thank you for choosing us and we look forward to welcoming you back again one day soon.

Petit coin de paradis

  • 4 of 5

(Translation from above) We had a great time . When we arrived, we felt welcomed by Carol and Carl, who were very discreet but present in case we had any questions . There was a nice touch when we arrived - Ice creams for the children in the freezer and a bottle of sparkling Saumur wine in the fridge for adults! The house is as pretty as the pictures, very well equipped, nicely decorated (like the large garden ) and ideally located in the region ( zoo , castles , leisure etc.). We had a really good relaxing quiet holiday. Thank you again for your welcome and we are delighted to have been the first French to come and meet you ! (Response) Thank you for your kind review. We were very happy that you and your children stayed here and that you liked the house, the garden, the pool and the area. Your children were very well behaved - you must be very proud of them. We know that you were able to rest and that pleases us. We hope to welcome you again one day in the future.

Relaxing holiday fantastic location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in the two bedroom gite run by Carol. It was a very quaint conversion of a longere. The property was clean and tidy and well equipped. The bedrooms are light and airy and the bathroom is well finished. There was a barbeque for us to use if we wished to cook outside ( which we did every day). There is a private garden for each gite providing shade and privacy. There is also access to a small pool. Just perfect to cool off in. We enjoyed a really warm period of weather (28-30 degrees) so the pool was really appreciated. There is also sky tv (english) so if you really want to keep on with what's happening at home you can and wifi. However this is rural france so expect the internet to be patchy. All in all a lovely spot to relax in. Not far from the centre of the Loire valley with lots of opportunities to taste wines and cheeses. There are many chateaux within a driveable distance and medieval castles for those history buffs or for those that wish to be blown away by the fantastic architecture. The gite is situated a short drive from Bauge and Clef. In Clef you will find the most amazing baker ( Boulanger Patissiere ). I would recommend daily visits here for bread croissants etc. The pastries here are of the highest quality so really a must try. I had wanted to buy horse meat but found that most of the bouchiere Chevaline had gone out of business. There is one though. He has a stall in the market in Saumur every Saturday. If you like steak I would urge you to try this. Definately the best steak ever eaten. Our host Carol was unintrusive but friendly and gave us a guide to using the cooker and showed us around the property. She was on hand to answer any questions we had. There are no laundry facilities at the gite so ensure you have enough changes of clothes for your stay or alternatively you could use the launderette in Bauge for about €4. To sum up. Great property. Great location. Great food. Fantastic wine. Great weather. What more could you want

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind review. We are glad that you enjoyed staying at the gite and were able to spend time in the pool and garden and of course, barbecuing in the evenings too. It was also great that you were able to explore this lovely part of France and gain some experience of what it's like to live here. And to top it all, you found the best boulangerie in nearby Clefs, and were able to buy your baguettes and croissants freshly baked each morning. Thanks again.

Tucked Away in the Countryside

  • 5 of 5

Beautifully renovated in the middle of the countryside, yet with supermarkets less than 15 minutes drive away. Carol and Carl are excellent hosts, couldn't do enough for us, we enjoyed our 2-week stay very much. The location is far enough from the Loire Valley to be away from the tourist hordes, but we were able to get to everything we wanted to see in less than an hour -- for example, the fantastic gardens at Villandry and the Cointreau factory in Angers (draw lots to be the driver). Walking off road is hard to find in France, but tourist information does have stuff and the countryside makes for easy walking. The great WiFi and TV were a bonus. Great time, easy to recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you very much for your review. It was a pleasure having you as guests especially as we looked forward to hearing where your travels had taken you that day. Also your keen interest in nature and our garden, which certainly paid off by finally seeing our resident red squirrel. You're right that we're in an ideal spot to get down to La Loire and all its attractions, but there's also a whole other Loir Valley just north of here running from Durtal to La Flèche to Le Lude with lots of chateaux to see and walking or even kayaking. There's a disused railway that runs all the way from La Flèche to Bauge for ideal shady walking or cycling. Thank you for leaving the cottage spotless for us. We hope to see you again.

Can't wait to return....

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely property, we were lucky to stay at this property last year, the owners have done a grand job of sympathetically renovating this property, whilst keeping it very French, they have thought of everything, it was challenge to thing of something they had not thought of!! You walk into the property and immediately feel at home, lovely and clean and fresh. The views from the back garden are wonderful, we had a BBQ in the back garden and watched the sun go down, a memory that will stay with us forever. The location is perfect - you are in the country and a short drive away from local amenities. The owner's description is very accurate and they were very helpful and knowledgeable of the area suggesting places to visit etc. The gardens at Vallandry Chateau are magnificent and well worth a visit. We also visited Saumur on more than one occasion, a pretty town with plenty of restaurants, and a cafe or two, also few wine tasting opportunities, and right on the Loire. We were sad to leave, and can't wait to return this year as there is so much more for us to see and do. The other property was just about finished being renovated, it is very quaint, but with stunning views across countryside, we are hoping to stay in this one next.

Owner's Response: We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay in our Fleur de Lys Cottage and you felt it was a ‘home from home’ experience. It is important for us to know that our guests really have the opportunity to relax and enjoy their time away. We totally agree with you - it’s an ideal base in the quiet countryside, but within easy reach of the main tourist attractions of the Loire Valley. We look forward to welcoming you back to our Coquelicot Cottage the next time you visit. Best wishes Carol & Carl

Location

From the Owner

When we found Notre Petit Coin, we were swept away with the setting, the open space, the lovely character houses, the peacefulness, yet we were still close to some lovely main towns. On top of that, we were in the middle of the Loire Valley with all its wonderful attractions and beauty. We love the pace of life, the choice we have each day - whether to stay at home, go out for a bike ride, discover some new vineyards, watch the Le Mans 24 hour car racing, visit another chateau, go shopping, watch the Cadre Noir horses in Saumur, have a long lunch in one of the many restaurants or a picnic in the sunshine or stroll alongside the Loire River ..... We know you are going to be delighted too.
