Cottage in Trefin, Nr. St. Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Situated In The Village Of Trefin, Close To The Small Cove At Aber Felin

The cottage located within the village of Trefin, an area of outstanding beauty within the Pembrokeshire National Coast Park is a traditional Pembrokeshire stone cottage, sympathetically renovated to a very high standard two years ago with exposed beams and slate flooring. It has two bedrooms, one double and one small room suitable for 1 adult + child or 2 children. Comfortable for holidays at any time of the year. The small shingle cove of Aber Felin and the remains of the Trefin Mill and the coastal path are a few minutes walk from the cottage and from there you can explore the coast. A pub serving food is a short walk away from the cottage.

Characterful, Spacious, great standard.

The property is very well located in the centre of the village with parking facilities close by. Everything was as described and proved to exceed our expectations; the photos didn't quite capture how spacious the ground floor layout and wraparound garden area was! This is an excellent spot to enjoy walking on the North Pembrokeshire coast with the ability to join the coastal path a short distance form the village. We had the use of a car so were able to explore further afield however we noticed quite a few travellers, many solo, using the 'Strumble Stroller' bus service so that is also a good way to get out and about. There are some village facilities including a pub (The Ship Inn) and a cafe (The Mill) which were both really good and people very friendly and welcoming. Porthgain just a few miles away was also within easy reach to access two further great eating places; The Shed and The Sloop. We had mixed weather whilst away including a couple of very wet days however because the property is spacious with a number of home comforts and thoughtful attention to detail, it isn't a problem or a hardship relaxing and taking it easy 'indoors'. The main bonus of staying here for us was to enjoy the coastal walking which was really beautiful it's quite a special area and we had good sightings of seals (including newly born pups!) and also porpoises which never witnessed in British coastal waters. We could thoroughly recommend this property and location for a relaxing but energising holiday in this stunning area of Wales.

Gorgeous cottage in a great location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Ty Draw, it is beautifully decorated to a high standard and so much space (downstairs especially).

This was our first visit to the area and we weren't disappointed. There are lots of beautiful unspoilt sandy beaches within walking distance and some lovely coastal walks we will try when our children are older.

The only 'negative' if you can call it that, is the second bedroom is very small, our 4 yr old and 6 yr old had to share which is fine at their age but maybe when older they will want their own space (girl and boy). That said, the bedroom does fit a single mattress on the floor but it does leave very little space for anything else. Had I known this I would've brought a camp bed for my 4 yr old as he wouldn't have minded. We did email the owner and were told two children could easily fit in the bedroom but we found it a squeeze.

We booked through owners direct so assumed we were dealing with the owner, but we weren't, it was an agent. I felt this was misleading.

Anyway, we had a very minor issue on the day of our arrival so we had to contact the owner, who happened to be staying in the village and came and sorted everything without delay and really went above and beyond what we expected so we were really pleased with the service we received.

We are already planning our next trip and will definitely stay at Ty Draw again, we had a wonderful stay and it was extremely well equipped, we have stayed in many cottages and this was by far one of the best.

The village is beautiful with a nice pub within walking distance which was child friendly. Very friendly and welcoming locals.

Thank you and hope to see you again soon!

Owner's Response: Thank you Chris for your positive comments regarding your stay. The cottage has been furnished by the owners to a high standard and its appreciation by guests are highly valued. It is ideally situated for touring the area and comfortable at any time of the year. With regard to the negative comments, these have been taken on board and you will note on the website that the description of bedroom 2 has been described more clearly on the first page although under the facilities title it has always stated that the cottage is suitable for 3 adults + 1 child or 2 adults + 2 children. Another bed with slide out mattress for 4th guest has also been purchased. Many of the properties on Owners Direct are managed by a property manager (on the home page it states bookings can be made direct to owners and Managers. I have made it clear now that I am the property manager where contact details are printed. The owners and myself look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Carole

Location

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

The delightful cove of Aberfelin is approx 5 minutes walk away and the sandy beach at Ynys Barry is approx 30 minutes walk. There are various beaches and coves, including Whitesands (famous for surfing) approx 15 minutes by car, Newgale 30 minutes by car, Abereiddi, (famous for the Blue Lagoon and the Red Bull diving championships) 10 minutes by car. The cottage is well placed for exploring the beaches and places of interest by car or a coastal bus which stops in the village.

Travel:

Cardiff airport is the nearest to Pembrokeshire and is approx 2.5 hours away by car. The ferry port to Ireland and the railway station are both in Goodwick, approx 20 minutes by car. There is a Hertz car rental in Goodwick should you wish to hire a car. A car is ideal to explore the area although not essential from this cottage.

Distances:

The cottage is situated in the village of Trefin and a 5 minutes walk from the cottage, the Ship Inn and The Old Mill Cafe can be found there offering places to dine. St David's, the smallest city in the UK (approx 5 miles) with its cathedral and Bishops Palace is well worth a visit, plenty of small shops and restaurants, banks and supermarkets. Fishguard (approx 10 miles) has a small market on Thursdays and Saturdays, art galleries, coffee shops and a picturesque little harbour at Lower Town.

Further Details:

Surfing, kayaking, coasteering, horse riding, fishing, golf, are just a few of the activities to be found locally. Pembroke Castle is just one of many ancient castles, churches, cromlechs, iron age forts - the area is steeped in history. There are many attractive gardens to visit and a trip to the Preselli Hills with its wooded valleys, streams, waterfalls that give way to moorland with wild ponies grazing and panoramic views across the Irish Sea provides a different perspective to the coastal areas of the county. The special light and clean atmosphere has attracted artists and craftspeople to this beautiful part of the world. Throughout the year there are music festivals, concerts and recitals in Fishguard, St Davids, Milford Haven and various other venues. A boat trip will take you to the islands of Ramsey, Skomer or Skokholm. Visit them in Springtime to see carpets of bluebells and other wild flowers and various sea birds nesting on the cliffs.
