About The Owner

I an doctor living in Newcastle upon Tyne with my husband, who is also a doctor and our two youngest children.

We lived untilin London until 2007 before moving to Africa for a few years.

My husband is from Johannesburg.

I have close links with this stretch of the Northumbrian coastline and we wanted our children to be able to keep this connection.

The cottage is one of the old farm workers buildings that I used to visit as a child whilst staying with my grandparents on at Dunstan Steads.

I grew up in London but spent most holidays up at Newton by the Sea.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 2015

Why The Owner chose Craster

This is a magical and timeless spot.

Off the beaten track it holds the potential for lovely memories.

Ancient monks and prehistoric folk walked here by the rocky whinstone ledges separating the land from the North sea.

The rocks are rugged and beautiful. On a warm day in summer the blue sky seems huge with the larks singing in the heavens.

The yellow gorse, green grass, white clouds and blue sky outbid each other for attention and are breath taking to see.

The North sea looks huge as it rolls into Embleton Bay and its colours change daily from blues to greens to greys.

There is ample wildlife to enjoy with nearby bird watching at Newton Pool and seal and puffin watching at the nearby Farne Islands.

This place is very special ..

What makes this cottage unique

The tranquillity and beauty of the house position is unique. This is a great place to walk and be near to the sea whilst slightly off the beaten track.

We appreciate being within walking distance of Craster and Dunstan where you can get some good food and in Craster the gallery is a pleasant visit.

The views for the upstairs windows are beautiful and you get a real sense of open space. The row of cottages are set quite high overlooking the surrounding fields and the ridge of gorse separating the land from the castle and seashore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your place was lovely and very comfortable. I picked the back room and slept like a baby. Was without a doubt my best nights sleep.

We woke up before Sunrise and hiked to the ruins. What an amazing sunrise. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you again and I would highly recommend your place!!

Quiet countryside getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time here. The property is set in the middle of a working farm. The setting and surroundings are the definition of peaceful. The cottage itself is well-appointed and comfortable. Access to the surrounding villages by car is easy; access to the seaside and Dunstan Castle is easier. Would love to stay here again.

Lovely, Quiet and Peaceful cottage in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

The four of us had 4 nights in the cottage. It was very clean and comfortable, with big bedrooms, and plenty of room for us all. Also it was so quiet even though the houses on either side of us were occupied we didn't hear a sound from them.

Location was great for access to Northumberland, with Craster and Dunstanburgh castle within easy walking distance (about 30 minutes), and a big and very quiet sandy beach also only 25 minutes walk away (about 1.3 miles) along a public footpath.

Overall we had a great stay, and would look for the house as a location when we go back.

Cottage was great in a fantastic location for visiting Northumberland.

Only downside with cottage was the bathroom and toilets is located downstairs but this did not stop us having a fantastic time in this cottage.

Lovely location and overall good experience.

Crockery chipped and cracked, one bowl missing. Toilet seat and brush in need of repair. Cooker light not working. Saucepan handles loose. Safety issue? Poor light for reading in seating area. Good dining area. Lovely bathroom. Advance information should mention the freezer.
