About the Owner

Hi we are Alison and Doug. I am a Civil Engineer and Alison works in Architecture. We met when working together on a large project for the army centered around Salisbury Plain.

We sold my house in Surrey and moved to Wiltshire in 2012 and decided to buy a house to let as a holiday home so others could enjoy the same holidays we had.

Alison enjoys gardening and has planted many roses and climbing plants to brighten up the house and has planting plans to make the area even prettier.

I am interested in classic cars and have one myself that I enjoy using in the summer on the quiet local roads which allow a more sedate way of driving.

Beautiful well kept property.

  • 5 of 5

I book a lot of accommodation for surveyors who are away for weeks at a time, this property is very well kept and the gentlemen that stayed commented on the homely feel.

The owner of the property (Douglas) is very helpful and kept in contact the entire time.

I would recommend this property and give it a 5 out of 5

Quiet and luxury place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We we a group of four freinds and have spent a wonderful time in Somerset. Our expectations of the holiday house in Mere based on the description were very high, however the reality has even exceeded them. Everything in the house was very precisely prepared for our arrival as promised by the owner. Unfortunately our daily plans were very demanding so we couldn't enjoy enough this nice quiet place in Mere during those days. There is nothing we would be unsatisfied except of the fact that it is too far from our home in Czech Republic to come more often...

Lovely house in a perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect. Clean, modern and well maintained. Fully equipped with all the things you will need. Doug and Alison even provided us with a travel cot and high chair for our 15 month old son.

Friendly welcome from Doug and a welcome pint of milk waiting for us in the fridge.

The house is in a perfect location to explore the surrounding areas. We visited Longleat, Peppa Pig World and Western-Super-Mare. All lovely days out.

Mere was a lovely little place with adequate amenities. The playing field and park area facing the house is perfect if you have a family.

We only ate out in one of the local pubs, The Walnut Tree Inn. It was lovely, I highly recommend the Sunday carvery. The local Chinese take away was very nice too.

Overall we would highly recommend this house to family and friends. We would most definitely return as a week was not long enough to explore the surrounding areas.

Great

  • 5 of 5

Ideal property, all facilities you need, well kept and well stocked. Clean upon arrival, particularly quiet and peaceful but within easy 5 minute walk to local amenities (shops, pubs, cafe, take away food etc.) check out the village wine merchants, and candle factory shop. Ideal base to visit all attractions of Wiltshire/Dorset/Somerset you may choose. Great holiday.

Our holiday!

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our young family! Very well equipped, child friendly, clean and modern. The village itself had a reasonably sized coop to stock up on essentials. Superbly located for places to visit in Wiltshire, Somerset and Dorset due to being located on the borders of all three counties! There's a fantastic playing field right behind the house for the kids to play as well as a little playground. We will definately be planning a trip to stay here again later on in the year!

Fantastic brand new house in the village of Mere

  • 5 of 5

Doug & Alison were kind enough to accommodate 2 of our employees whilst we were carrying some work in the local area, the booking process was easy and communications with Doug were great. The accommodation was very clean and well equipped, like a home from home. Our guys spent 5 happy weeks in the property and we would recommend to anyone looking for first class accommodation in Mere. Thanks again for your flexibility in allowing us to book part weeks so that the guys could travel home at weekends to spend time with their families – an added bonus is that Doug & Alison also own the house next door so can accommodate 2 families.

Location

From the Owner

I fell in love with this area on the Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset borders years ago when I used to bring my children here on holiday. We loved the beautiful scenery and quiet roads which are a welcome change from where I used to live within the M25. Mere is a lovely old village that doesn't seem to have been discovered by too many tourists so is still peaceful in the summer, but surrounded by lots to do within an hour in any direction.

Mere is a very old village with a lot of lovely stone buildings and a great deal of history, dating back to medieval times. Castle hill is the site of ruined castle built in 1253 and there is a local museum should you be interested in any of Mere's history.

Facilities

From the Owner

My grown up children still live in Surrey so the easy access to the A303 is very convenient for me and I can be back in Epsom within 90 minutes. It also gives superb access in to Somerset and on into Devon. I used to take the children to Longleat when they were younger and it is only a short drive along country lanes from Mere. I think one of the nicest things about staying in Mere is that you are not living in a tourist destination. Every day you can enjoy a quiet drive to somewhere of interest and then return to calmer surroundings in the evenings.
