About the property

Contemporary barn in rural Somerset nr Taunton - Peaceful location and very private, nr lots of facilities

Grace Barn is a newly rebuilt Victorian barn, set in an elevated and tranquil position on the edge of the Quantock Hills and surrounded by open farmland. Its large south and west-facing windows capture warmth and light all year round, and provide stunning views of Taunton Vale, the Blackdown Hills and the glorious sunsets. It is accessed over a stony farm track and is a long way from any busy roads - so you can enjoy a holiday free from traffic noise and breathe the clear Somerset air.

Patio doors open from both the living room and main bedroom onto a private terrace and veranda with sun loungers, a hanging 'dream chair', and an outdoor eating/barbecue area. Although the barn is annexed to the main house there is no interaction between the two, so you can come and go in private.

A couple of steps lead down to a small enclosed lawn and a track leading to the smallholding, orchard and meadows. This can also be reached without the use of the steps via a stony farm track. There is a small stream and wildlife pond (unfenced) which are frequented by our geese and wild ducks - water voles, newts and pole cats (!) have been spotted here as well as tawny owls, buzzards, dragonflies and numerous other species. We do everything we can to create a habitat for wildlife. *Young children would need to be supervised due to the presence of unfenced water and animals*

Our own chickens and bantams range freely around the smallholding and we sometimes have 'collective' pigs in the summer for fresh pork, and a tasty veg patch. Grace Barn has its very own little herb garden for the sole use of guests.

Grace Barn is situated in the tiny hamlet of Gotton just 1.5miles from the nearest food shop, and 3 miles from the County Town of Taunton, where there is an excellent shopping centre, cinema, bowling alley, swimming pool and plenty of really good restaurants and cafes.

The lovely Hestercombe Gardens and House are just a mile away by road, or enjoy the walk there on foot through fragrant bluebell woods, with the reward of good coffee or lunch when you get there.

Other nearby attractions include the West Somerset Steam Railway (20mins), Exmoor (1hr), Dunster and Minehead (1hr), Glastonbury, Wells and Clarkes Village retail outlet at Street (40mins), among others. South coast towns such as Lyme Regis and Sidmouth are less than an hour away, both of which are great for beaches, holiday shopping and eating, and the surfing beaches of North Devon 1.5 hours by car (Woolacombe, Croyde etc).

Grace Barn is well placed for access by rail or road, 10 minutes by taxi from Taunton’s mainline rail station (London Paddington 2 hours), and major road links (3 miles from the M5). Regional airports at Bristol and Exeter are within 1 hour and offer links to main airports across the UK and Europe. English Channel ferry ports are within easy reach.

About Rosie Tremain

Rosie Tremain's family have spent the last five years renovating their Victorian stone barn and creating a smallholding. We love creating our own food (veg patch, orchard, pigs, chickens...) and our own energy (solar and wood). We adore our big trees, our animals and our view, and love to share them with others. Informal hospitality is our thing - but we also give people the absolute privacy they need on holiday.

We both work at our own small businesses - at home Rosie upcycles and creates under the banner of Vintage Grace Home.

Rosie Tremain purchased this barn in 2009

Why Rosie Tremain chose Taunton

We fell in love with its location, the land, the trees, birds, wildlife and the view!

Beautiful, clean, stylish property with every amenity

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely long weekend in Rosie's barn conversion annexe. On first impressions, it was extremely clean and the views were amazing, made even better by the large windows and bifold doors. The garden was really cute and pretty and the garden swing was very relaxing. Some cows came to see us (and drink water) in the mornings and it was just so restful and peaceful, we didn't want to leave! The wood burner was easy and fun to use. The home itself was really tastefully decorated and had everything you would need for cooking etc. There were lots of towels and the shower was really good. We loved it and highly recommend it!

This was one of the loveliest place I have ever had the pleasure to stay... I have a child with autism and he LOVED it here.. When we arrived we were welcome with a very tasty homemade raspberry cake made by Rosie! The apartment was simply stunning!!! And so was the view!. When we were there it rained 5 and a half days out of the 7 days.. But we still managed to get out and about to enjoy ourselves. Rosie felt so sorry for me she brought me a pair of wellies! Lol lol... We were only there for one night and booked for next year!! My children loved juicy and Lucy the geese wandering around the garden.. They also did an arts and craft class with Rosie with they throughly enjoyed!! My partner came and joined us half way through the week.. And even he was blown away! We managed to get away to the beach (which was about 50 mins away) and we had a lovely time there too.. Also I forgot to say Asda, Morrisons, lidl are not too far away... The city centre isnt far either. The Perfect location! We can't wait to come back next year!!! One the of best family holidays we have had to date.

Also my organisation has awarded Grace Barn an 'Autism Friendly Award' for outstanding service provided for autistic children and their families! Rosie was truly amazing with my son and my son felt so at home! it was just the perfect place! A little piece of paradise!!! Thank you so much Rosie!!!
