Situated on the borders of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire Ostlers Cottage is a 2011 conversion, comfortably and tastefully furnished and suitable for both summer and winter lets. To the front of the cottage is a courtyard area with private and secure parking. A haven for wildlife, the estate is home to owls, bats, hares, pheasants, moorhens, and occasionally a deer herd in the back of the fields. The farm sits in 32 acres of grassland, peaceful and quiet and the perfect place to relax.

About Mrs. Jean Townsend

Jean is a semi-retired lecturer and an adult education tutor.She specializes in Medieval History. Her family have farmed for many generations. She enjoys meeting people and will help in any way she can to make your stay at Ostlers Cottage comfortable and interesting.

What makes this cottage unique

Ostlers Cottage is situated on a 32 acre farm on a quiet country lane, less than 2 miles from the main A1. Apart from sheep residing in nearby fields, the farm is non-working. So if it's absolute peace and quiet, a lovely property, easy access to a wealth of interesting events,towns, cities, and National Trust properties then Ostlers Cottage is for you. Notes on accommodation: Ostlers Cottage is Pet friendly. We welcome one well behaved pet. This is a non-smoking property. We want your stay with us to be as special as possible. If you have any special requests or need help planning your holiday please ask. Outside: To the rear of Ostlers Cottage is a private orchard with patio, seats, table and barbecue. Utility Room: The utility room has a new Bosch washing machine, and Bosch Clothes Drier. Also a steam iron and ironing board, vacuum cleaner. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Our rate includes all central heating costs with continuous hot water on demand. We provide Towels and all bed linen, a cot and high chair is available upon request.

Although the cottage has a very modern fully fitted kitchen, you may like to try one of the many opportunities to dine out. There are several village pubs in close proximity providing excellent meals at reasonable prices. Details of which can be found in our information pack, on arrival.

Working up an appetite will be easy since the area offers many beautiful and interesting walks.

Silverdene Farm specialises in breeding coloured huacaya alpacas and offers guided tours.

Provisions can be obtained from a variety of shops selling local produce and Sainsbury’s is within easy reach in the nearby town of Balderton. Newark has a great produce market on Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays.

The Market town of Newark boasts a wealth of history, an example of course being Newark Castle on the banks of the River Trent.

The Vale of Belvoir (and Belvoir Castle) is thirty minutes drive and pretty villages and beautiful churches (read up on Bottesford Church witches) are on your doorstep.


Ostlers Cottage is less than 2 miles from the A1, and aprox 6 miles from Newark on Trent main line railway station. Doncaster Robin Hood Airport and Nottingham East Midlands Airport are each round 90 minutes travel time. Adequate bus and rail connections are available from Newark and Grantham.

Further Details:

Ostlers is aprox. six miles to the National Civil War Centre at Newark. Regular antique fairs are held at Lincolnshire Showground which is approx. 15 minutes drive.

Other attractions include Sherwood Forest home of the infamous Robin Hood and the beautiful cobbled streets of The City of Lincoln.

A contemporary cathedral city with over 2,000 years of history, Lincoln is the perfect place to visit over the festive period. Take a trip back through time and stroll along the cobbles the cultural quarter of the city. The medieval square between the impressive Norman castle and magnificent gothic cathedral is the perfect backdrop for the Christmas Market.

There a wealth of beautiful Historic Houses in the area including Gainsborough Old Hall, a unique medieval manor house right in the centre of Gainsborough, Gunby Hall a fine red-brick house dating from 1700 and located at the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds with Victorian walled gardens, Alford Manor House, reputedly the largest thatched manor house in the country, Belton House The ‘perfect’ English country-house estate, set in its own magnificent deer park, Burghley House, a Tudor mansion built by Queen Elizabeth’s Lord High Treasurer in the 1500’s.

Doddington Hall has over 400 years of unbroken family occupation and has resulted in a fascinating collection of furniture, paintings, ceramics, textiles, porcelain, household objects along with a wealth of amusing stories. A visit to Doddington offers a unique insight into family life through the ages and the challenges of looking after such a house in the 21st Century.

If you fancy a flutter why not try Market Rasen Racecourse or if motor racing is your thing Cadwell Park or the National Go-karting Track near Brandon is worth a visit.

Enjoy the seaside? Visit The Lincolnshire Coast by taking a trip to Skegness or Mablethorpe. The National Civil War Museum is new in town!

Changeover Day:
Weekly Holidays are from Saturday – Saturday. Short stay last minute bookings (within 14 days of arrival) are sometimes available. Your arrival time is from 4pm and the departure time is before 10am.
