Apartment in Alaro, Central Mallorca, Balearic Islands - Foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains, one hour walk to Es Verger ( Famous Lamb Resturant)

This modern apartment is in one of the oldest buildings of Alaró, with a beautiful 600mm thick stone wall running the length of the living room, this helps keep it cool in Summer and warm in Winter. All windows have original wooden shutters. Open planned living room with large log burner and comfy sofa one end and a state of the art, modern, well equipped kitchen the other. The small town of Alaró is popular all year round and there are plenty of places to eat whatever season you choose to go, whereas several towns on the island close up for winter. It is a first floor apartment so may not be suitable for the disabled.

The front looks out over the small square and the large back windows look over the pool and to the foothills of the mountains beyond. Most of the time the apartment is very quiet, but please take note of any Festivals because the locals do like to party at festival time!

2 years ago I started to seriously look for a holiday home and through Rightmove found this lovely apartment in Alaró being sold privately by a New Zealand couple.

Everything we needed and more!

This is a true Spanish holiday, away from the tourist track, I used their DVDs to do yoga every morning then walked into the beautiful mountains before collapsing by the pool for an hour or two. Friendly place with plenty of bars and restaurants walking distance away. Very good prices to eat and drink out!! Most bars only charged 2euro per drink!!!

Most important ... Very comfy beds, slept very well. All in all came home rested rather than in need of another holiday!! Would go back again and again but does need a car to make full use of all the island has to offer.

A fabulous traditional apartment in Alaro

I spent five days in Alaro and thoroughly recommend this beautiful apartment. It is tastefully done, extremely well equipped and felt more like a home rather than a holiday let. The large living area overlooks the pool and during my stay, I was the only person who used it. The apartment is less than five minutes walk into the main town where there are several restaurants. The main square has a market on a Saturday which is worth visiting. If you don't want to go into the main part of the town, you can have a drink in one of the two bars in the small square the apartment overlooks. The walking is fantastic and I even managed to get as far as the castle on top of the mountain - two hours walk but well worth it. I have already started recommending the apartment to my friends and hopefully, I will return soon.

A delightful period property on the edge of Alaro

I spent five days in Alaro and I can thoroughly recommend this property. It is very tastefully done, extremely well equipped and felt like a home as opposed to a holiday let. The large living area is light and airy with lovely high ceilings. It overlooks the pool and during my stay, I was the only one to use it! I could walk into the centre of the town within a few minutes which has many restaurants. Equally, I could enjoy a drink in one of the two bars in the small square that the apartment overlooks. On Saturdays, there is a market within the main square of Alaro - well worth a visit! There are several walks that I managed to do - even up to the castle which took a couple of hours but well worth it. I will definitely be returning!!

Location

Having looked at 101 ( or so it seemed) properties on the coast we fell in love with the foothills of the Tramuntana Mountains. Several areas of the island have problems with their water, not so Alaró, you can drink the tap water its so purer.

Activity and Interests

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

Because of Alaró's easy access to the motorway nowhere is very far by car, you could chose a different beach everyday but the nearest large beach ( 20 mins. drive) is the beautiful beach at Pollensa. please be aware that it is normal on all Mallorca's beaches to pay for sun loungers and shades.

Travel:

To fully enjoy a holiday in Alaró a small car is ideal ( narrow streets!)

Only a 20/25mins drive from the Airport ay Palma.

Distances:

Being centrally situated every where on the island is within easy access for a day out.

Try the windy roads on the north side of the mountains or head for the golden sand of the beaches.

The maps provided with hirer cars are useless so please use ours ( in kitchen island draw ) but please look after and leave for the next people.

Further Details:

Saturday morning is Market day in the main square of Alaró, just 10mins. walk from the apartment, but there is a market somewhere everyday of the week, a list of these markets is in the info pack.

We love the Capital of Palma and it only takes 20mins to drive in, so all the befits without living in the town. The air is clear, the walks are challenging and there is a Cycle Hire shop for those feeling the need for more exercise!

  • Notes on accommodation: Please note this apartment has 2 x 5' Double beds so is most suitable of 2 couples, or a family if kids don't mind sharing! Although the sofa is large enough to use as a bed too. Outside: Outside is a small pool that is well maintained but not heated. This area is shared by 12 apartments but since most are owner occupied it is little used there are always spare sun loungers, the 2 matching black ones are the "official" ones. Utility Room: The utility area is down by the pool, with the apartments own washing machine and tumble dryer behind a closed door. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All towel, linen and beach towels are included. These would normally be changed at the end of the letting but more frequent changing can be pre-arranged.
