Large 6 bedroom house with uninterrupted sea views - ideal for town and beaches.

Overview

Property

Updated: 26-Nov-2016
Crackwell Street, Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Overlooking Harbour and North Beach

Overlooking the North Beach and the picturesque harbour the house is a short 2 minute walk onto any one of the three beautiful blue flag beaches of Tenby or a short 20 steps into the town itself. Tenby is a wonderful holiday destination and caters to all types: Family beach holidays, coastal walkers, surfers, Iron-Man athletes, mountain bikers.

With six bedrooms and four bathrooms, Whistler House has been refurbished to cater well to family get-togethers, Christmas get-aways or multiple family holidays - there's space for all. It has wifi availability throughout as well as all the amenities expected from a house with a high specification. A brand new kitchen is aimed at being both flexible and capable of catering easily for up to 16 guests.

Out on the garden patio you can enjoy barbecues and large group meals or just sit back and watch sea and harbour life pass you by.

Recently refurbished, we bought Whistler House because we literally fell in love with the sea and harbour views from the garden - it helped that there is a strong rumour that Henry Tudor escaped to the Continent if not from our house then possibly from the tunnels lying underneath the cliff on which we stand.

Tenby has recently won a National award for tourist destination (Silver Best UK Coastal Award 2014) and Whistler House overlooks the Blue Flag North Beach as well as the beautiful and still working harbour from which you can take fishing and tour trips.

IMPORTANT BOOKING NOTE: We are part of the new Ownersdirect online payments facility and they have introduced a c. 6% fee on top of our usual rates. As such Ownersdirect is the one charging you an additional percentage fee on top of our rate for their payment protection. The exact percentage of Ownersdirect fee is based on the price of the house per week. If you wish to save this additional fee, please feel free to contact us and you can book and pay directly with us to a UK bank in GBP. It is your decision but we do have many reviews of previous guests who book direct for your peace of mind. However if you pay via Ownersdirect that's also fine.

About the Owner

We live in Hampshire but have both loved Tenby for decades - and having gone there as kids ourselves we took our kids and dreamed about having a house over-looking the beaches of Tenby.

When Whistler House came on the market it was almost too good to be true! In the middle of town, beach and harbour it is quite literally the perfect spot.

We completely re-furbished the house and have tried to anticipate as many needs as possible and to make as much of the place as we can - we hope you like it.

Amazing

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful home, everything you needed was there the owners thought of everything. There were 14 ladies and there was room for all of us. The view from the back garden was perfect, I lay in bed and looked at the harbour. Close to the town, just right for a big gathering, made my friends birthday weekend just perfect

Beautiful, spacious home in the heart of Tenby overlooking the North beach.

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic property in the heart of Tenby with a stunning view of the beach from the garden.

We booked for 14 and the house worked well for us as its large enough for privacy but well laid out for communal space.

Ages ranged from 4-68 and all were impressed and we felt the house well suited children.

The owners really have thought of everything. We wanted for nothing and throughly enough enjoyed our stay. Thank you!

Perfect for a large family gathering with the most amazing view

  • 5 of 5

Trying to find and organise a holiday for our family of fifteen (eight adults and seven children ranging from 12 - 20 (not all children anymore!) could have been a nightmare, however, from the moment we found Whistler House in Tenby and started dealing with Alison & David it was a breeze.

Starting with location. The house is in the perfect location on Crackwell Street. Go out the front door and you are a stones throw from the High Street (the Tesco Express just through the alley way was a god send for sending the children for Grandad's morning paper!) with it's array of shops, cafes, restaurants (recommend The Mooring & The Buccaneer) and pubs (Hope & Anchor very popular).

A short walk down the street and you are in the harbour area with direct access to two beautiful beaches; North Beach (great spot to capture the late afternoon sun) and South Beach, perfect for body boarding (life guards on patrol) or a 5km run!! Some of our family took a fishing trip one morning from the harbour and also caught the ferry across to Caldey Island. You can also access the Pembrokeshire coastal path from the house and we enjoyed a walk to Saundersfoot - but be warned it's very up and down! We didn't use the car all week.

Go out the back door and wow!! You are presented with the most perfect, captivating and relaxing view of the harbour and north beach from the back garden. Well equipped with garden furniture, we enjoyed many an hour just sat watching the tide come in and out with a cup of tea or a glass of something stronger! On the Sunday of our stay we enjoyed front row seats for the Tenby Summer Spectacular firework display.

What about the house? It is the perfect home from home (in fact in some respects better equipped!). Beautifully decorated and furnished with enough space to enable us to live comfortably together for a week without getting on each other's nerves! The kitchen is perfectly equipped for self-catering, with a table that comfortably seated all fifteen of us for dinner or outside for a BBQ. They have even provided a wine / beer fridge!! Two TVs meant there were no arguments between the adults and children for control of the remote! The bedrooms are beautifully decorated with high quality bed linen and towels and there were enough bathrooms and plenty of hot water to accommodate us all coming off the beach at the same time. The house was perfect.

Thank you Whistler House (Alison and David) for a great week and fond memories.

Superb large family property

  • 5 of 5

14 of us spent the first week of August here.

What a house. The 6 grandchildren aged 4 to 13 loved the bunk beds and the twin room next door.

Loads of space. This property is not cluttered with furniture. Everything is practical, clean and useable.

We ate around the large table each evening, and had breakfast in the conservatory.

It really was home from home. The information on the house was written in such a way that we were not anxious about using the house and it's contents. We really felt it was our home for the week.

The view is spectacular, the BBQ well used, and the short walk to the beaches ideal.

We've already booked another week for summer 2017- a unanimous decision by all the family!

Amazing house with amazing views.

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my hen party stayed at this property in July of 2016, and it really was a treat. We paid a great rate and stayed for a long weekend. The house was beautiful, clean and tidy the whole way through. We were a box of welsh tea bags and some Tenby biscuits which was an amazing touch, along with starter loo rolls in the bathrooms (always a bonus). The house was massively stocked with all the equipment you could possibly need, including tableware and cutlery aplenty. The view from the balcony is as beautiful as the pictures promise and it's where we spent most of our time. The only o e thing I would be wary of next time I visited is the unpacking. Unpacking outside the house was much trickier then we anticipated as it's on a one way alternating traffic lighted street. However the house, Tenby itself and the stay was incredibly worth it.

Thank you guys for an incredible stay. We will be back :-)

Location

From the Owner

The house dates back to the 1850's and has just the most breath-taking views. Great for sunrises, sunsets and watching the daily activity on the North Beach and Harbour in between. Within minutes you can be on either North or Harbour beaches and jumping in at high tide. Since buying the property we have also learned that pre-pagers - the back of the house was used to launch the Maroons (flares) to call the crew when the Tenby Lifeboat was launched.

Activity and Interests

Coast/Beach:

North Beach is literally at the bottom of the garden. Castle Beach and Harbour Beach are a 2 minute walk from the front door and South Beach is around 5 minutes walk around the headland of Castle Beach.

All Tenby beaches are Blue Flag and have beautiful golden sand running all the way down to the water. When the tide is out North Beach is best for cricket.

Surfing is possible on South Beach but 5-6 better beaches are no more than 15 miles from Tenby itself when the swell is against us!

Travel:

You do not need a car to enjoy Tenby town from Whistler House, being right in the thick of things, but having one would allow you to explore the excellent Pembrokeshire coastline - but this is also easily done on foot, hiking in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

Tenby is easy to find from the M4 passing Cardiff and Swansea and is serviced by Cardiff Airport and ferries to and from Pembroke serve Ireland (Rosslaire).

Distances:

This is Dylan Thomas country - with loads of sites to visit.

Caldey island, a Cistercian Monastery, can be visited only by boat from Tenby Harbour.

St Davids smallest Cathedral city in Britain is around 30 miles away.

For more kid structured adventure and no more than 15 minutes away: Blue Lagoon Water park, Heatherton Activity and Sports Park, Manor House Wildlife Park, Folly Farm Zoo.

Tudor Pembroke Castle 15 Miles

Swansea for shopping and more activities 50 miles

Further Details:

Tenby town has a lot going for it - brilliant pubs, a variety of restaurants, coffee shops, good clothes shopping - especially beachwear, as well as a load of things to do during the day as well as at night.

In Summer we have weekly fireworks displays with live bands and on New Year the place lights up for miles around. The Iron Man challenge is gaining fame and attracting world class athletes - and mountain biking, surfing and hiking are catered for year round in this part of Wales. Sailing is good in the area and plenty of mooring exists for those who like time on the water. Don't miss out on the weekly test launch from the Tenby Lifeboat station too (normally Tuesdays at 6pm).

Notes:

  • Notes on accommodation: Within 2 minutes of Whistler House are restaurants, coffee shops, cafes and pubs as well as three World Class beaches. The house sits over North Beach on Crackwell Street, at the bottom of which one can find the harbour with access to fresh seafood and organised fishing and boat trips. Outside we have the best feature of the house - the patio garden featuring our large shared table - with adequate space for food and drink - BBQ and of course those stunning views - hypnotic in any weather. Outside: One of the most attractive features of Whistler House maximising the views outside of the beach, sea and harbour has been the installation of a modern glass safety balcony - we overlook both beach and harbour though, so all children and dogs playing in the outside areas must be supervised at all times. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and all high quality bed linen is included and laundered weekly. The house is cleaned weekly. More frequent cleaning can be arranged. Other: Our conservatory allows the outside in and anyone sitting there at breakfast or early evening enjoys panoramic views of the Sea in perfect comfort. We also have a Table Football table.
