Charming House Located in a 16th Century Hillside Medieval Hamlet

Overview

Property

Updated: 18-Nov-2016
Home in Audabiac, Nr Nîmes & Uzès, Languedoc-Roussillon, France - Quiet & Romantic Settin

The charming Bergerie d'Audabiac was the sheepfold of medieval Audabiac. The conversion of the Bergerie is sympathetic to its past, preserving the style and charm of the 1500s. The terra cotta tiled ground floor contrasts beautifully with the light walls and thick Cevennes chestnut beams support the roof structure. It offers a small outdoor patio, and a cozy fireplace inside for chillier nights. It is perfectly located in the south of France, 3km from the fortified village of Lussan (grocery, restaurants/coffee shop/bar), and 16km to Uzès, famous for its markets, quality shops, artisan bakeries and sidewalk restaurants. All in proximity of the Cèze River for cooling off, and an abundance of trails for hiking. Close to the Gorges de l'Ardèche, the Cévennes, as well as Avignon, Nîmes, and all the beauty this quieter area of the south of France has to offer.

Terrific!

  • 5 of 5

"For months we were counting down the days until our week at this terrific getaway. We had everything we needed to relax after a busy week exploring Paris. The location was excellent as we were but a short distance from Roman ruins, lavender fields, the Mediterranean coast and so much more. We're back to counting the days until we can go again!"

Cozy home in the heart of the South of France

  • 5 of 5

Small but perfectly formed! This was a perfect romantic hideaway in the middle of a stunning little French village. On entering the house we felt like we stepped back in time, and our trip lived up to expectations in every way. The village is an excellent location for exploring the region, with fantastic trails for hiking/mountain biking at the top of the village, and we even did a little stargazing on a clear night. The little patio/outdoor area is perfect for breakfast and an evening glass of wine. The house itself is very small, but at 300 years old, what it lacks in size it makes up for in charm. We found it was clean and had all the necessities - coffee maker, internet, etc, plus lots of handy info and tips thanks to Lyne's helpful emails. There was loads of things to do near the house - we wanted to explore the great outdoors and were only a short drive away from a number of swimming spots (Plage de Roy with wild goats, and Roque sur Ceze with waterfalls), and a walk to the impressive gorges of les Concluses which was perfect for a picnic and afternoon hike. Not to mention the market in Uzes, and our absolute highlight - a canoe trip along the Ardeche river to the Pont d'Arc. Overall it was a really enjoyable trip - and we didn't even have time for wine tasting. I'd highly recommend to a couple looking for a romantic getaway into the heart of the south of France.

Romantic Refuge

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I chose this quaint home to spend a 10 year anniversary and it was just what we were looking for! The house has everything you might need- our favorite part was the kitchen which is surprisingly well equipped for a rental, which must mean the owners also enjoy cooking! The water pressure and temperature were great- this was important as the mornings are still chilly at this time of year. Check in was very smooth and we were left all the information we needed, as well as many travel guides and tips from previous guests. The hosts responded to our questions by email which was helpful. The hamlet itself is extremely quiet, so we really got the rest and relaxation we were looking for. It is very well located, in our week we never drove for more than an hour in any direction and every day we visited new places: amazing local markets, pottery studios, roman villages, hiking trails, calm river kayaking, biking, and of course, lots of picnics with wine and cheese. But despite all those attractions, we also had very leisurely mornings at home and it was difficult to leave the house everyday! We were very happy to come back to this romantic refuge at the end of the day! We are already planning our return!

A haven of peace on a rural hillside

  • 5 of 5

This tiny house, in a magical, ancient hamlet in the countryside has been a wonderful place to spend a week. The miracle for me has been waking up to hear nothing but birds. There's no distant road noise! Just birds, frogs and wind in the trees. And the neighbour's cats. Just down the road is Lussan, an ancient town on a hilltop with glorious rural views from the ramparts. And again, birds, birds, birds. Starlings this evening. Pure magic.

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

Just as advertised and expected the property was spotless and very well equipped. This is a small but "perfectly formed" little gite that is just right for a couple looking to retreat and chill out from the hurly burly. Simple and comfortable furniture, all one would expect and more. Customer service was also brilliant (thanks Lyne)

Perfect Getaway

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is perfect for getting away from it all. The owners Lyne and Ian have thought of everything to ensure our stay was enjoyable. Whilst it is a lovely sleepy hamlet you are staying in, facilities nearby ensure you can get all you need. The location of the gite is lovely with amazing scenery all around. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this as the perfect hideaway
