About Caroline Potter

David and Caroline have owned Le Mimosa and their main house next door since 2011. Caroline is French and David is English. We love the area for its mountains, beaches in summer and great food. David is an International Mountain Leader and runs regular walking trips from the village.

Caroline Potter purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Caroline Potter chose Alberes

As soon as we saw the house we fell in love with its charm and above all its location looking up to the mountains and the border with Spain. The village is a real gem with wonderful restaurants , village shops and direct access to the mountains.

What makes this cottage unique

Its an ideal place to stay to get away from it and to walk, cycle as well as visit a few beaches and eat at great restaurants ( as well as staying connected via the broadband wifi).

Guestbook comments from the owner

Compact, clean, and stylish

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks at Le Mimosa. Caroline and David were friendly, welcoming, and helpful hosts. The village was lovely and we did most of our daily food shopping using the excellent local butcher and baker stopping for a drink at the bar on our way back. Our favourite beach was at Paulilles and we mostly alternated between that and walking in the mountains with some day trips into beautiful Catalonia. Our one wet day was a good opportunity to visit the modern art gallery at Ceret. We returned home relaxed and refreshed after a memorable holiday. Thank you Caroline and David.

Fantastic place to get away from it all

  • 5 of 5

My partner and I stayed at Le Mimosa during mid July. The property itself was perfect, a little gem hidden away with lovely views over a stream and the mountains in the distance. Could not fault the accommodation at all.

David and Caroline were great hosts, supplied everything we needed, were extremely friendly but with enough space to allow us to relax. The information books they provide are a great help with regards to places to visit and would recommend you follow his map to the hidded rock pools, very serene.

The restaurants in the town are all great however did love Café des Artistes and Côté Saisons. Great value and lovely food.

All in all a great holiday and would recommend Le Mimosa to anybody looking for a peaceful escape.

Thanks for having us

A little gem

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Le Mimosa for 12 days in October. The cottage was exactly as described with the exception that, to our delighted surprise, it felt much more spacious than we had anticipated! Situated on the edge of the village overlooking a stream and allotments it was truly tranquil. Simply furnished and uncluttered, everything was in very good order and spotlessly clean throughout. David and Caroline were friendly, welcoming and responsive with lots of really helpful ideas on things to do but at the same time were unobtrusive – perfect hosts! Laroque-des-Albères is an excellent base for a holiday – all the essential shops (butcher, baker, small supermarket and an excellent small weekly market) as well as several places to eat and drink and all within a few minutes’ walk of Le Mimosa. The mountains form a beautiful backdrop to Laroque and offer excellent walking opportunities moreover, there are books, maps and David’s suggestions to get the best ways to explore them. The Mediterranean coast and beaches are very close and easy to reach but, it was October, not really on our agenda so another visit in the summer months would offer another very different holiday.

Highly Recommended.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and myself had a fantastic time when we stayed at La Mimosa, both Caroline and David went out of their way to make our stay there perfect. The cottage is small but perfectly formed. Very, very comfortable bed, (very important!!) The cottage is very clean and has everything that you would need for your holiday, including lots of local infomation and a guest book chock full of maps and recommendations for restaurants etc. don't miss the walk up to the rock pools. The views of the surrounding countryside are stunning.

La Mimosa situated in a small friendly village, and only a short drive to super beaches.

Highly recommended.

Very cosy stone cottage with friendly host

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay in Le Mimosa, Laroque des Alberes. Perfect location in the heart of a lovely village. The host was very friendly and made our holiday superb. They walked With us to a fanstastic bathing Place in the mountains, and had many suggestions for activities and Places to visit. The cottage was very clean and well maintained and had a lovely terrace. The retaurants in the village was very good and the village has a Perfect location, between the mountain and the sea. We will highly recommend this Place to others.

Wonderful, welcoming oasis

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I stayed here for a week and had a wonderful time. The property is exactly as described but you really have to be there to experience the beauty and calm of this lovely location. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful and really felt more like old friends than 'owners'! They provided maps of the area and even took us on a walk to show us a beautiful place for swimming, picnics and other walks.

The property has all the basics you would need for a holiday and is stylishly furnished. The terrace is a lovely place for evening meals, although we didn't get around to using the BBQ. There are a few restaurants and cafes within a short walk of the property and also the usual bakery, pharmacy etc.

We'd definitely recommend the property.
