Cottage in Rhodian y Brenin, St. Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales - Delightful rural location, Large lawned garden, private parking. Short breaks (3 nights) available.

A modernised traditional country Pembrokeshire cottage with a large garden and open views over Dowrog nature reserve to the back. Great for families or couples and the house is suitable for elderly people - please note there are two steps between the parking and entrance. The cottage has been tastefully modernised and is attractive, open, warm and light. There is a secure large dry shed to store bikes and wetsuits as well as a large garden which is ideal for relaxing and sunbathing or for playing badminton or ball games. There is a sheltered patio connecting to the kitchen for outdoor dining with a large table and chairs .The large modern conservatory and underfloor heating in the kitchen create an indoor space that is warm and contemporary as well as highly practical.The modern well-equipped kitchen and conservatory are integrated and it is a great space in which to eat.The cosy lounge has a wood-burning stove (we supply the logs) and TV reception plus DVD player. All the accommodation is finished to a high standard - we provide good quality cotton bedding, new pillows and lovely towels. The renowned Whitesands beach is a few minutes drive away. Similarly, the glorious Pembrokeshire coastal footpath is within easy reach of the house. St Davids is a mile away and is a delightful small town with coffee shops and a range of very good galleries as well as the cathedral which is a World Heritage site. This area is a paradise for surfers, birdwatchers, cyclists and walkers or simply those who want a holiday away from noise and bustle and somewhere to peacefully relax and unwind.

Please note - because of the way the booking calendar is strucutred by Owners Direct it looks as though week long rentals are Saturday to Friday. They are Saturday to Saturday. Other change over days are possible also, as are short stays - just ask us!

We come to Ty Cerrig as often as possible - the rest of the time David is a busy leadership consultant and Ruth is an educational consultant, writer and former athlete.

David Rooke purchased this cottage in 2008

Why David Rooke chose St Brides Bay, St Davids & The West Coast

David fell in love with this part of Pembrokeshire about 30 years ago and visited regularly - camping at first and then renting holiday homes. Eventually he was lucky enough to be able to buy this lovely old cottage and renovate it. Both he and Ruth love the access to nature, to good cycling, fabulous walks and the fine places in eat in St Davids, Porthgain and Solva.

What makes this cottage unique

The cottage is superb for families, with its extensive flat garden, patio and large conservatory. The property is spacious and open we also have a large dry shed for storage of bikes, outdoor equipment and wetsuits and a car can be reversed right up to this for easy unloading. The area is full of things to do - adventures to the islands of Ramsay, Skomer (with its puffins), Skokhom and Grassholme (second largest gannet colony in the world). The Blue Lagoon and Whitesands are close and a Sustrans bike route is only 1/4 of a mile away. Behind the house is the remarkable and little known nature reserve of Dowrog Common - home to orchids, owls and marsh harriers. In the autumn there are beaches a short walk away littered with baby and female seals.

Notes on accommodation: Electric heating throughout: underfloor heating in kitchen and bathroom, modern wall-mounted electric radiators in all bedrooms. Wood-burner in the lounge. Outdoor drying line for wetsuits and clothes as well as shed area and drying rack. Large protected lawned garden great for games or even a tent which overlooks the Dowrog nature reserve - site of special scientific interest . The coast is easily accessed. Outside: The garden is secure, extensive and laid to lawn (so great for games, sunbathing, kids and pets). The patio area, with its outdoor table and sun loungers catches the sun most of the day and is very sheltered and private. This is a lovely area for and end of day BBQ. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Bed linen and towels including tea towels are included. Please bring beach towels as these are not included. The property is cleaned before arrival and after departure. Please sort your rubbish according to the recycling system

Another lovely week in the UKs smallest city. Ty Cerrig is a lovely cottage with comfortable bedrooms, lovely kitchen and a great garden for games and for dogs to run around. Very comfortable and lots of hot water, aided by the solar panels and lots of sun. Fantastic welcoming gifts on arrival helped settle us in after a tiring day travelling. Fey was always on hand to answer any questions, which was always comforting to know. We would be more than happy to stay again in the future.

Comfortable and well located

On the whole we had a great week, the area is good for walks and cycling and the surfing and other outdoor activities available make it a great place for the outdoor life. St Davids is a good centre, we barely used the car after getting there.

The house is generally very good and as described but, we felt, a little over priced - however, this is more a general note for UK properties as those of a similar standard to this one seems to be a similar price. The UK does seem to ask much more than Spanish and French property owners, and a trip to Brittany can work out a cheaper holiday even with a ferry!.

The third bedroom is very small, the second pull out bed would overwhelm it. More importantly the second bedroom - twin - has absolutely no clothes storage space at all, no drawers or wardrobe. The main bedroom has sufficient drawers, and the third bedroom has a small set of open shelves. No hanging space at all, anywhere. For a cottage of this quality and price this seemed lacking. Its also a bit weird having a shower and being visible through frosted glass to anyone in the conservatory....!

A lovely addition would be a radio, though this is something most properties don't seem to have so its not unusual. The kitchen is really well equipped, the milk frother for our own capuccinos a bonus!

All in all we were comfortable and made full use of all that was around us and within the house.

Overall lovely

We really enjoyed the house and found it mostly comfortable and very relaxing. I've given it 4 stars as we has some issues with the access as it wasn't really suitable for my 80'yr old mother despite being advertised as being accessible. There are steep uneven stone steps down into the house, also the inside open wooden staircase wasn't ideal. The other main negative was that the double bed was not comfortable as the mattress was very 'flat' with no support, very uncomfortable for sleeping on unfortunately.

Great garden for the dog and games, enclosed and safe.

St Davids

St Davids is a beautiful city with wonderful beaches and clifftop walks which we thoroughly enjoyed.

The well equipped and comfortable cottage was perfect for us with our dog and the garden was enclosed and private.

Our only positive suggestion would be to repair/replace the outdoor table which was a bit unsteady, to provide a sun umbrella and a replacement barbecue.

Great Cottage in a beautiful area

We had an excellent stay at Ty Cerrig. All the Family (our dog included) enjoyed a lot that place. The Cottage is cosy and well maintained, the patio and the outdoor area have been our favorite places to relax and eat. The large garden a marvellous playground for the children and our dog.

Furthermore, we took advantage of all the facilities and available equipment, such as the BBQ and the beach stuff, to spend some very good time.

St. Davids' with its shops and the nice Cathedral is only 1 mile away. Whitesands Beach is 2 miles away.

If you want, you can even walk to these places directly from the Cottage (or run, as I loved to do in the morning).

Info to and from the Owner very good and precise. We had a punctual and friendly support from the concierge.

The surroundings are beautiful, with stunning views and the right balance between wilderness and services, you need to travel with the Family.

Very satisfied of choosing Pembrokshire for my first journey to Wales.

When possible, we would like to come back to Ty Cerrig in the future.

Location

Car: recommended

Coast/Beach:

Whitesands is the closest beach, just over 2 miles away and approx 5 minutes drive or a walk across country. Abereiddy beach and the amazing the Blue Lagon are 3 miles away, with free parking. Caerfai bay is through St Davids, and is about 10 minutes by car.

The Pembrokeshire coastal path is 1 mile (by foot)

Travel:

There is a very good local bus service during the summer months to St Davids, Haverfordwest, Fishguard and the local beaches. A car is recommended. Cycling in the area is very good - the house is 500 metres from Sustrans route 4 which goes from from St David's to Fishguard and takes in some spectacular scenery on a quiet road.

Distances:

St Davids, Britains smallest cathedral city is just over a mile away in one direction and Fishguard 11 miles in the other. The villages with great eateries of Solva and Porthgain are 15 minutes away. The well known Blue Lagoon, with its coasteering is only 5 minutes drive away.
