This detached holiday property is surrounded by a large private garden and is ideally located for touring this pretty region of France. It has been renovated to a high standard and provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to 7 guests. Nearby is the pretty town of Mortain with its historic abbey and all amenities. Slightly further afield is the large market town of Vire and also the Lac de La Dathee, with its 18 hole golf course, fishing, windsurfing and sailing school. For sandy beaches both Granville & Carolles are within easy driving distance and offer a typical French seaside resort atmosphere. From Granville there are also boat trips to the Channel Islands. You can also explore Avranches and its 2000 years heritage monuments

Lovely property with fully enclosed garden

Lovely property at the end of a country lane and not overlooked at all. The garden is large and fully dog and child proof. For dog owners the ground floor is tiled and nice and cool during the day (even when the sun shines!).

We had a great 10 days - helped by the weather!

Tranquility with all the modern amenities

What a shame we had to leave the property, set in such a peaceful location with gorgeous uninterrupted countryside views. There are probably too many plus points to list so here are just some of them. Excellent internet connection, English TV in the lounge and kitchen. Large fully equipped kitchen, you name it it was there. Three bathrooms one of which has a great sized comfortable bath. The beds were very comfortable and clean with crisp linens. Seperate dining room which could seat 8 comfortably. The whole cottage was full of character with original beams and fireplace. Fully fenced garden which was totally secure for our dogs and our grandson.

Whilst staying at the cottage we we fortunate to be visited several times by the wild deer that appeared in the field alongside the garden. Birds of prey were in abundance, all contributing to our overall enjoyment. Shopping was easy, with supermarkets closeby in Mortain and also in the village was a bar/cafe/bakery/grocery store all in one.

Walking routes along the disused railway line, just down the end of the lane were great for walking the dogs,and were well used by cyclists, all safe and without any traffic. Travelling was easy when site seeing and we visited numerous memorial sites just over an hours drive from the property, St mere eglise,Pegasus Bridge, Ponte du hoc and many more.

We'd definitely stay here again, as it provided everything we were looking for.

Absolutely stunning.

The property is beautiful, a real home from home. The facilities are fantastic, everything which could possibly be needed is provided and is of a high standard. The garden is huge and totally secure, our dogs just loved it! All set in the gorgeous Normandy countryside. A perfect holiday location, thank you.

Beautiful character cottage

perfect secluded and delightful

Down the end of a long track, surrounded by fields the property is so secluded. The website doesn't do it justice. It has everything you need and more. The kitchen is light and fully equipped, the lounge comfy (take your sky viewing card). Broadband speed great for such a remote place. Bedrooms all light and spacious and the bathrooms spotless and modern.

The garden, which wraps around the cottage is huge and great for football and badminton, totally secure for the dog. A lovely sun trap to the front if you are lucky enough to get some sun.

Booking, paying and organising was easy with the owner and Judy, who met us was patient (we were late) and helpful. Lovely to get there are there be a basket of goodies and essentials so we didn't have to go straight to the shop.

Easter 2015

We had a lovey relaxing Easter Break at the house with my partner. It was exactly as described. very homely and well equipped.

The weather wasn't great but we took a couple trips out ... shopping in Vire, walks around the local lakes and a trip to the waterfalls.

My partner is a Marathon runner and said the runs we beautiful very good and would recommend to anyone who does like to run.... there's also a great training circuit through the woods!

Highlight for me was drive out to Cancale - well worth the drive ... If you love fish & shellfish I would recommend Le Cancalais over looking the sea..... it was amazing! ... don't forget to visit the sweet shop to get some home made Nougat!

The only negative was the rain... although it did give us the excuse to snuggle in front of the open fire and to drink French wine.... eat French bread and cheese!

We will definitely be visiting again!

We have family in Lower Normandy, and fell in love with the picturesque countryside and the relaxed way of life. We chose to buy our property in a rural location,not only is there peace and quiet but plenty of outside space to enjoy in good weather. Within approximately 1 hours drive there are lovely unspoilt beaches and plenty of sightseeing to do including, Mont. St. Michel, the Bayeaux Tapestry and the landing beaches. There are amusement parks for the younger ones.

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary


The beaches are approx 1 hours drive away. They are very safe and accessible with wonderful scenery. Our favourite is Carolles, on one side there are rocks and rock pools where you can see people collecting shellfish. The other side has a large smooth area of sand, perfect for children to play and sunbathing.


The ferry ports of St.Malo (1 hour 30 mins), Cherbourg (2 hours), Caen (1 hour 15 mins), Dieppe (3 hours , Calais (4 hours).

Airports- Dinard and Rennes - both approx 1 hour 15 mins by car.

Car hire or use of car is essential


The busy towns of St.Hilaire and Vire are approx 20 mins drive away. Here you will find bars, restaurants & shops which give the town a lively air.

There are restaurants for every occasion from sandwiches, plat de jour, pizzas and top class hotels.

Approximately 1 hours drive away you will find places of interest such as the famous Mont.St.Michel, the Bayeaux Tapestry and the landing beaches

Further Details:

The nearest supermarkets are in the town of Mortain ( approx 10 mins drive away). Here you will also find banks, a few restaurants ( we recommend the Au Bon Vent) but check availability as opening days can vary).

In Vire there is an indoor swimming pool and 10 pin bin bowling

From the Owner

The property is approx. 15 minute walk to the Village of St.Clement, the nearest Town is Mortain or Sourdeval which are approximately 10 minutes drive away. The house has the benefit of an ensuite shower room, family bathroom and downstairs shower and WC. There are plenty of walks for the energetic including an old railway line which is now very picturesque.
