Apartment in Salhouse, North Norfolk, England - In Centre Of Norfolk Broads, Close To Norwich And In Easy Reach Of North Norfolk Coast

A self contained one bedroom apartment within my home with its own separate entrance. There is free car parking in the lay-by in front of the property. Located in the popular village of Salhouse with its own post office/village shop, pub, garden centre and hairdressers. There is a regular bus service into Norwich and Wroxham and the village railway station (about eighteen minutes walk) connects with Norwich and also the North Norfolk Coast. Salhouse Broad is about twenty minutes walk ( or seven minutes from the car park) and canoes can be hired there in the summer. A selection of games including draughts, chess, scrabble etc is available and also a pair of binoculars for guests to use on walks, bird watching etc.

What makes this apartment unique

It is in the centre of a village location on an interesting road within easy drive of Norwich or Wroxham. The A47 bypass is only about eight minutes drive away which can direct you to man parts of East Anglia quickly.

Notes on accommodation: The minimum period of staying is three nights. Change over day is Saturday for complete weeks. The accommodation is available after 4 PM on arrival day and the accommodation should be vacated by 10.00 AM on departure day. A non refundable deposit of 25% is payable on booking and the balance to be paid six weeks before arrival. Payment can be by cheque or direct bank to bank transfer, ask for details when booking. Payment by cash or postal order can be by special arrangement, please ask. A refundable damage deposit of £75.00 may be payable in some circumstances. Utility Room: An automatic washing machine/dryer is available by arrangement if requested for use free of charge by guests, it is sited downstairs. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Linen/towels are supplied , the accommodation is cleaned and serviced before guests arrive and again just after they vacate the property. Guests are expected to keep the accommodation clean and tidy by themselves during there stay Other: From the front entrance there is a small hallway, stairs and small landing leading to the main accommodation

Very Good Value and Plenty of Facilities

The apartment is a self contained top floor. There are two main rooms, one being a large double bedroom and the second being a fair sized living/dining area with a well equipped kitchen. The kitchen has a shower/bathroom just off it. The accommodation including access up a fight of stairs is private and totally self contained. Graham the owner is always contactable but not intrusive.

There's loads of storage available in the bedroom and all the things you need for a week long stay are there including iron, hair dryer clothes horse etc. There is a launderette 5 minutes down the road in Wroxham.

The living area and kitchenette are comfortable and clean, not ultra modern but to be honest the cost of the accommodation is very, very good value so it would be unrealistic to ask for a luxurious penthouse.

The area is great and there are plenty of facilities within a 5 minute drive in Wroxham or 10/15 minutes drive to Norwich. And the Norfolk coast is 15/20 minutes drive away.

Graham was a helpful host and the biscuits, fruit and chilled milk in the fridge for a cuppa on arrival was a nice touch. When I arrived I was shown around and presented with a set of keys and then allowed to get on with the rest of my holiday.

The shower was good and there was constant hot water.

I can definitely recommend this place for someone on a cycling holiday like me or groups of 1 up to possibly 3 (the couch in the living area can convert into a bed) looking to explore the broads or Norfolk coast. Whilst I was there I had no problems parking outside at anytime.

If I had one slight reservation it would be the need for better sound insulation but the value of the stay and the overall facilities on offer far outweigh any concerns and noise wasn't really much of an issue.

I will definitely be looking to book again for next year.

Not nice

Separate entrance is a set of stairs leading from a very dusty front door, the same front door the owner uses. The bedroom is ok but the quilt on the bed did not fit. The bathroom is next to the kitchen and very small. The owner had put out 2 bananas and 6 choc biscuits which had melted in the heat. We left as were not comfortable in there and booked a hotel. Not a place I would recommend at all.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry the accommodation did not come up to your expectations, I note you only joined with Owners Direct in 2017 so perhaps you have not experienced self catering before ( but I don't know as a fact). I 'm sure if you had mentioned about the welcome snack offered at the time I could easily have substituted fresh biscuits and fruit. For the last two and a half years I have been running this business I have had a large majority of favorable write ups on this and other websites that I advertise on. You had opportunities to ask for further information regarding the accommodation before you arrived but did not use this. As I have already one guest whom has been here eight times and others come back and recommend me to their friends I am afraid I am unable to take your comments to seriously.

The apartment had everything we needed and suited our needs perfectly

The location was great and Salhouse village is lovely.

Excellent location.

Compact but well equipped and comfortable apartment in lovely village. Within walking distance of Sallhouse Broad and the local pub. 5 min drive from Wroxham and only 6 miles from Norwich. Good access to all the Northern Broads and coast.

Adequate for the lower price

Accommodation well placed for exploring the area. Owner pleasant & helpful. Property facilities were a little tired, eg: bathroom soap used & sitting on warn, unattractive dish, corner sink cramped, shower did not drain well, toilet did not flush well & was not en-suit to the bedroom. Plumbing was very noisy. Kitchen reasonably equipped apart from lacking a colander. Crockery smart but heavy & stored too high up for using safely by 5'6" or shorter people.

However, for our quiet week, mostly out of property it was adequate.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your observations. If I had been advised at the time the soap could have been changed. The crockery is stored in a standard wall at a standard height found in thousands of kitchens throughout the UK. A collapsible stool is provided for people to stand on if something is out of reach but again if mentioned at the time I could have easily rearrange items at a lower height to negate the inconvenience. In two and a half years of running this holiday flat I have never been asked for a colander but if asked at the time one could have provided one. One will be included for the future. The design of the crockery is a matter of personal taste. A plumber will be contacted to check plumbing matters

Special interest holidays:

Salhouse is in the centre of the Norfolk Broads and day boat hire and canoe and cycle hire are available at various locations around the Broads.


There is a beach about 20 miles drive away at Caister and all along the Norfolk coast.


Norwich Airport is about six miles. A car is ideal for touring around Norfolk


Norwich is six miles, Wroxham is three miles, Great Yarmouth is sixteen miles and Cromer is about twenty five miles away.

Further Details:

Most shopping needs can be catered for in Wroxham (3miles away ) which has a bank , Post Office, Roys Department Store, restaurants pubs etc.
