About the property

Cottage in Churchdown, Gloucester, Gloucestershire, England - Rural Location Within 10-15 Mins Drive Of Central Gloucester & Cheltenham

The Outhouse is a beautifully appointed, self-contained out-building. It includes a large bedroom, high quality bathroom with bath and shower, large living area/lounge with integral fully-equipped kitchen and parking for 2 cars or more. There is an outside sitting area to relax and enjoy the views both over to Cheltenham, as well as up towards the woods of Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust's Chosen Hill nature reserve. It’s an ideal alternative to a hotel.

About Sarah Stanton

We are a family of 4 with 2 young children (as well as a spaniel called Roxy, chickens, bantams, 2 goats and 2 sheep!). The opportunity to rent out accommodation became increasingly apparent as "The Outhouse" was in limited use other than by family on visits. We took about the task of upgrading it to be as special as possible. The infrastructure, both internally and externally, was almost perfect already - we just needed to invest in furnishings, which we haven't held back on. Given a chance we chill out in there when we can. We book it out for ourselves too!

Sarah Stanton purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Sarah Stanton chose Cotswold district

The setting - it's amazing. We spent a long time looking for the right place for our family. The opportunity to rent out our "Outhouse" to business people and holiday makers was an added bonus. We've taken this opportunity very seriously and have focused on attention to detail. It's been available from the beginning of 2015 but we spent several months in 2014 getting it ready. For example, the wifi has been professionally installed as we felt the signal from the main house was too weak. The brand new TV lacked on the sound quality so we bought a special unit to make it sound far better. We could go on...

What makes this cottage unique

It's very close to both Gloucester and Cheltenham but in a rural setting. The tree-lined drive - as you approach it - puts you in the right frame of mind after either a social or business trip.

Amazing wildlife (green woodpeckers for example) is abundant.

It's the perfect place to relax with many rural attractions, but close to city life.

Top quality property, lovely owners and a beautiful part of England.

The only regret we have is that we were not able to stay longer. The setting is totally perfect for our requirements and the dogs had a great time. We are looking forward to being able to return within a few months. Many many thanks to Sarah and her family for making us feel so very welcome.

Superb cottage, which is a holiday treat itself!

  • 5 of 5

Sarah is such a lovely host. She tended to our needs right from the time of booking including setting up the beds and providing very detailed instructions to get there. She even lent a pair of Wellies to our daughter for hiking! The cottage is extremely well appointed. City folks will not be left wanting - washer cum dryer, La-Z boy chairs, satellite TV, DVD player, fully equipped kitchen and a fire place! The farm animals are a welcome distraction for kids and the hike up the hill for breathtaking views of the Cotswold and Cheltenham is definitely a must-do for the family. We regret not booking for a longer stay! (We may return!)

Immaculately presented "out-building" which lacked for nothing, incredible value.

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely base from which to explore the beautiful countryside around. After a lovely welcome by Sara [and the dog] we were shown a show house standard "out-building" which was beautifully presented and lacked for nothing. The location is superb for anyone who wants to relax away from it all, as well as giving easy access to all the lovely towns and cities in the area. Dark evenings were no problem, the lovely lounge was a great place to relax especially with the wood burning stove burning away. I cannot recommend this "out-building" enough, it must be the most sophisticated "out-building" in the country. Thanks Sara for a lovely experience. Joanna & Clive and the two dogs.

Owner's Response: Ah that's great that you enjoyed it... and thanks for your kind review! Having the log burner going inside does make it cosy when it autumnal outside....we love that too :-)

A perfectly presented, clean, characterful cottage

  • 5 of 5

This tasteful barn conversion holiday cottage is perfect in every way. One of the best we have rented.

On arrival the owners Mum in law greeted us ( owners on holiday) and showed us all we needed to know about the property and was wonderfully friendly.

The Outhouse is furnished with all your needs, very cozy and comfortable, cleaned to a high standard.

Although in a beautiful, quiet, rural setting you are only 15 mins drive from Gloucester, Cheltenham and M5 with a lovely view from the patio area of the Cotswolds.

My Wife and I plus our 2 Labradors needed a relaxing break and that's exactly what we got. We all loved Roxy the spaniel, the bantams, your sheep and your 2 goats.

My wife broke her foot 8 weeks previous to our stop here and she found the cottage very accessible as its all on ground level.

We will be booking this property again next year.

Thank you Sarah and family, your property is a gem.

Kind Regards.

Jon and Lynn.
