****2017 bookings are available. Please enquire for an accurate quote.****

Wissett Cottage is the quintessential, traditional Dorset stone cottage. Steeped in period character such as exposed stonework, ancient timbers and a partly thatched roof, this 300 year old cottage provides a cosy and welcoming 'home away from home' that combines rustic charm with comfortable furnishings and modern day conveniences.

Lying within an 'arrow's flight' of the historic ruins of Corfe Castle, Wissett Cottage is conveniently situated close to all village amenities such as the convenience store, post office, bakery and excellent local pubs. A short, 5 minute stroll will take you to Corfe Castle station from where you can board one of the vintage steam trains operating on the famous Swanage Steam Railway. The village nestles in the heart of the magnificent Isle of Purbeck and lies close to many areas of outstanding natural beauty. With nearby coastline forming the eastern end of the renowned World Heritage Site, The Jurassic Coast, the area provides a diverse range of scenery and attractions such as pristine sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, quaint villages and pleasant seaside resorts which will appeal to all ages and interests.

On the ground floor of Wissett Cottage you will find a bright, spacious living room equipped with woodburner, tv (freesat) and blu-ray player. With comfortable sofas seating up to 8 people, there is plenty of room to relax after the day's activities and logs for your first fire will be provided during the winter months. Meanwhile the stunning dining room, with its double height ceiling and original (ornamental) inglenook fireplace, boasts a large refectory table seating up to eight people. The kitchen is fully equipped for all of your culinary needs; appliances include electric oven, gas hob, dishwasher, microwave,fridge/freezer and washing machine. Upstairs you will find a modern bathroom (bath with pressurised shower attachment, basin, toilet), separate WC and two homely bedrooms (Bed 1 - king-sized double, tv; Bed 2 - standard double and 3ft single) from which you can glimpse views of the nearby Purbeck Hills. All bed linen is provided and you will find the beds made up, ready for you on arrival. A sofa bed in the living room provides additional accommodation by prior arrangement only.

Children are very welcome at Wissett Cottage; a travel cot (please bring your own cot bedding), high chair and stroller buggy (suitable from 6 months) are available for our smaller guests.

The entrance and south-facing aspect of the cottage is framed by attractive neighbouring gardens and is approached by a shared driveway which provides parking for one vehicle. A detached garage provides additional parking as well as lockable storage for bikes, canoes or surfboards. To the rear, there is a pretty, private, walled courtyard with patio furniture for 'al fresco' dining in the summer months.

Please note:

Bookings are usually for a minimum of 7 nights and run from Saturday to Saturday. Last minute, short break bookings are occasionally available - please enquire for further details.

A strict 'No Smoking' policy operates for guests staying at the property and regrettably, due to fire hazard presented by the thatch, barbeques are not permitted.

Sorry but we do not accept pets.

"Really exceptional"

What a wonderful find. Comfortable, warm and with everything you might need. Thoughtfully equipped. A high level of specification makes this a very comfortable place to stay. We have enjoyed relaxing here. Would visit again. Thank you. Still here and two more days to enjoy.

"Beautiful cottage, magical village"

My husband and I are keen photographers, so we were looking for somewhere close to Corfe Castle, so we might get shots of the ruins in different light without having to get in the car.

Wissett Cottage was in the perfect location for this! The cottage itself is beautiful and spotlessly clean. It has everything you could ever want during your stay. All you need to do is step out the front door and head down the main road to get an incredible view of Corfe Castle.

I am very fussy about cleanliness when I stay in self catering cottages... and this one could pass the 'white glove' test!

Kate's communication throughout the entire process was fabulous!

This was a perfect holiday, in a beautiful cottage and a magical village! Thank you Kate!

"A lovely cosy comfortable cottage in an excellent location."

This lovely old cottage is in an excellent location in the village of Corfe Castle, near to the castle itself and to pubs and shops. It is an excellent base to explore the Isle of Purbeck with easy access to walks from the door, and near to coastal paths with stunning scenery. The steam railway to Swanage is worth trying and the old station has some good exhibits. The cottage is like a home from home and you will not be disappointed.

Cottage in walking distance of Corfe Castle, bus stop, local shop, pubs and station. Such a beautiful property attracts a lot of people taking photos outside the window- it was odd to be in a tourist attraction.Perfect location for exploring Purbeck.

Fantastic cottage and location

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at Wissett Cottage, which is well located, and well equipped. I would almost love to keep it a secret because we love staying in the cottage as much as enjoying our days.out on the local beaches and walks, which are a stone's throw away.

We are already planning next year's visit (having got home from our holiday a couple of hours ago !)

What a lovely place to stay!

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely holiday staying at Wissett Cottage, the photos just don't do it justice, it really has a Wow factor when you arrive, along with the local surroundings, it all just picture post card images.

The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped.

The surrounding area has so much todo for a family holiday all with easy reach whether it be walking, by bus, by steam train or in the car.

Unfortunately the road through Corfe Castle is very busy during the day, luckily not so bad at night.

We had a lovely holiday and would consider coming back to Wissett Cottage again.

This was our third year at Wissett Cottage and it lived up to expectations! The cottage is really well equipped, and ideally located for exploring Purbeck (and the local pubs!). We'll be back next year.

Lovely Character Cottage, amazing week's stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay in the cottage last week. We have always loved the village of Corfe and to be able to stay in such a lovely cottage and feel part of the village was very special. Even though the cottage is grade II listed and full of charm and character it still has all of mod cons that we have come to rely on, with wifi and good shower pressure. The additional welcome touches like wine and scones on arrival was very thoughtful.

The cottage is also really well situated and great for family holidays; we went to Swanage beach on several days, along with Lulworth Cove, Wareham (Saturday is market day), Poole and having the Castle on our doorstop was very handy. Our daughter especially loved Monkey World, The Ark (soft play at Poole Park) and the park across the road was great.

We would definitely recommend this cottage and will hopefully be returning again next year.

Relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week at Wissett Cottage in the charming village of Corfe Castle. Both my partner and I, and the couple we shared with agreed it was the best cottage we had ever stayed in, and we have done many over the years, and represented exceptional value. The accommodation was beautifully kept with as much charm and character as anybody could wish for. The whole experience was wonderful, and you felt that there was a genuine interest in ensuring you had a memorable stay. Which we did.

Corfe Castle itself, which is a living piece of history , is a great 'jumping off' point for lots of interesting places itself; Brownsea Island, Lulworh Cove etc, and if walking is your thing, you will be in a ramblers paradise. All in all a brilliant choice.

With coastline having been designated a World Heritage site, The Jurassic Coast fringes many areas of outstanding natural beauty, each with its own character and notoriety. From low-lying heathland to dramatic cliffs and pristine, sandy beaches, the scenery changes endlessly to nurture a wealth of flora and fauna, enchanting and inspire its visitors to return time and time again. The beauty of this world-renowned coast line is unsurpassed and visitors who venture a short distance inland will be enthralled by what the Isle of Purbeck has to offer them. Dominated by the majestic Purbeck Hills, this gently rolling landscape has provided shelter and sustenance for mankind over thousands of years. Today, the area is dotted with quaint villages comprising cottages built from the locally quarried Purbeck limestone, giving them their unique character and charm.

The village of Corfe Castle, named after the ruined fortress which stands proud at its gateway is the largest and most populous of these settlements. Within its bounds, you will find three traditional English pubs, a superb bakery, a general store and a post office. The Swanage Steam Railway operates from the station within the village and, of course, the castle itself is a fantastic visitor attraction. Walkers and cyclists alike will rejoice in the ready accessibility from the village of numerous routes into the picturesque hills and vales. The traditional seaside resort of Swanage with its variety of amenities is a short 5 mile ride away. The scope for nature lovers to indulge their interest is endless, whether it be: dolphin watching from the cliffs of Durlston Country Park; watching the migrations of bird life at Poole harbour; surveying the landscape for mammals such as Sika deer or, indeed, reptilian life which is indigenous to the area's heathlands. All in all, the Isle of Purbeck offers something for everyone.
