The Tower offers cosy and comfortable accommodation for 2 people. Located in the scenic village of Salen on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, it offers spacious bedroom, bathroom and living room. A balcony leads off the living room giving space for outdoor eating whilst enjoying the views over to Loch Sunart and the local woodlands. From the property you can wander down to the loch and watch the local wildlife. Within an easy walk of the property is the Salen hotel for evening meals or the Jetty shop where you can have a coffee and pick up a paper.

About the Owner

Sorry we don't have a photo! We bought the property after a move 'south' from Knoydart. We live here with our 2 children, our springer spaniel Corrie and 2 cats. We have owned a self catering property for many years but enjoy being on hand to look after it. We know that renting a place next door to the owners can be a concern - but rest assured, we are there if you need us but the chances are you won't see us again after we have met you! Angela is a development manager with the Knoydart Foundation, a community land owner. Mark is a marine biologist and also runs his own RYA school - so if you fancy a power boat course, get in touch!

Lovely accommodation in a wonderful part of Scotla

A very well appointed upside down property in the peaceful location of Salen. Breakfast and evening meals on the balcony with views of the loch below. All you could hear was the sound of wildlife. The property was very roomy with a good sized kitchen and bathroom. The owners were very welcoming and were on hand if you needed to ask a question.

Plenty to see and do with easy access to Mull and Fort William. But you don't need to go that far to see amazing scenery and appreciate animals and birds in the wild. We were lucky enough to dolphins swimming next to our ferry back from Mull. In addition we saw seals, buzzards, a sparrowhawk, oystercatchers, herons, curlews and so much more.

Other trip highlights included the Glenfinnan viaduct and monument, the Neptune staircase on the Caledonian canal, Tobermory, the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse (the mostly westerly point of mainland UK), Glen Coe, the walk around Strontian, and the Singing Sands.

The only issue - we needed more time as there is so much to see :)

Location

We want you to have a great holiday and have enjoyed making the Tower as homely as possible and somewhere we would enjoy going on holiday. We love the upside down nature of the property - bedroom and bathroom down stairs with a spiral staircase leading you up into the living room. From here you can step out onto the balcony to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining, overlooking the local woodlands and Loch Sunart beyond.

Coast/Beach:

We are located a 2 minute walk from Loch Sunart, one of the many scenic sea lochs in the area. There are superb sandy beaches at Ardtoe (5 miles drive), the Singing sands ( 4 mile drive plus a 3 mile walk), Castle Tiorum ( 5 miles drive) and Sanna (20 miles drive).

The property contains plenty of information and maps to acess local facilities.

Travel:

To make best use of the property and the surrounding area, access to a car is recommended. We are approximately 3 hours from Glasgow or Inverness airports and an hour from Fort William train station. Full travel details provided to guests.

Distances:

There is a pub, the Salen Hotel, serving evening meals just a 2 minute walk from the property. The recently opened Salen jetty shop is a 5 minute walk to pick up your morning paper. The village of Acharacle, 2 miles away, offers a shop with cashpoint, bakery, tearoom, post office, takeaway and pub. Strontian, 10 miles away, offers further eating facilities.

Further Details:

Salen is well located to take advantage of the numerous activities in the area -walking, skiing, wildlife watching, boat trips and much more. Fort William is the nearest town with supermarkets, banks and a good range of shops.

The Tower is an ideal base for day trips to the islands of Mull, Eigg, Rum, Muck, Skye and Knoydart.

We love going on self catering holidays- but also know the risk of renting a property and being disappointed. We have tried to furnish the property so all you need to bring is your food ( and maybe a bottle of wine!). Everything else is provided, from dishwasher tablets to hot water bottles! We can even supply dog bowls and dog towels. We want you to have a relaxing holiday so just ask if you want to check on any detail. We look forward to meeting you.

  • Notes on accommodation: Although adjacent to the owners own home, The Tower is self contained and private. We are available to offer help and advice if needed (and to give access to the washing machine!). We welcome dogs but please note that we have our own livestock (hens, ducks, horses, dogs and cats) so we ask that you make sure you keep your pet under control. Outside: There is a spacious garden outside with picnic table that guests are welcome to use. There is ample parking. Utility Room: Washing machine, dryer and additional freezer space available at owners property next door if required. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen, towels, cleaning and heating included in price. Other: Balcony leading off living room with outdoor table and chairs giving views over to Loch Sunart and surrounding woodland - perfect for outdoor eating. Cloakroom downstairs with storage for coats etc. WiFi available.
