About the Owner

Robin and Veronica have managed to do what many people dream of doing - we escaped from the rat race of crowded suburbia, having fallen in love with Beeson Farm, an historic, disused and derelict Devon farm nestling in a wonderfully tranquil valley less than a mile from a wonderful, unspoilt beach. Much hard work and loads of money later we are delighted to offer you beautifully restored cottages which have retained their character whilst providing every comfort and all mod cons. We have achieved AA 4 stars rating and recommendations from the Guardian, Express and Woman magazine. Our environmental efforts have resulted in being awarded a Gold Green Tourism Award.

We offer a range of quality accommodation which is child friendly, dog welcome or pet & feather free and wheelchair accessible

Truly gorgeous views, villa and area

  • 5 of 5

This villa really does have the most beautiful views. I've stayed in a number of villas and this really was very special. Brilliantly equipped - they literally had everything you needed and the location couldn't be beaten. The pool area is gorgeous and the owners were so helpful in the lead up to our trip. We were met at the local taverna to be shown the villa, which is up a bumpy, steep track, which was really helpful, so no danger of getting lost! Dimitri regularly visited to clean the pool and check we had everything we needed. The taverna - Castello Taverna - in the village was fabulous - very basic food, but delicious and all depended what was picked from the garden or meat available. The owner Vasilis is a real character and a wonderful host and it was a great place to meet local people for a chat over a few drinks. And it was SO cheap! Very much recommend the restaurant in Armeni as well and Kostas' restaurant Goulediana. The whole surrounding area really is totally unspoilt and everyone we met was so warm, friendly and welcoming. A real gem of a villa and area. Thank you!

Lovely villa, beautifully situated

  • 5 of 5

We recently enjoyed a week's stay at this beautiful villa. Perfectly situated, with stunning sea and mountain views, it is an ideal base for exploring this area of Crete. We enjoyed many days out - the lovely town of Rethymno is only about 10 miles away and Frangocastello is a beautiful drive down to the south coast. A Minoan cemetery is just a 5 minute drive away.

The villa itself is spacious and exceptionally clean and well-maintained, with everything provided that you could possibly need. The swimming pool is an ideal size and the balcony is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine and enjoying the local wildlife - for anyone interested in birds, this area is on a migration route, hence the 60+ species of birds we saw from the balcony. Dimitris, who welcomes you to the house and maintains the pool, is so warm and friendly, as were all the local people we met in nearby Kastello and Armeni.

We cannot recommend this villa highly enough. After spending a week touring the island, it was so nice to relax in such a beautiful and peaceful place.

Absolutely stunning views, in a peaceful setting.

  • 5 of 5

The villa is maintained to a really high standard with lots of little touches that make it delightful. It is exceptionally clean, and the pool is to die for. It was very easy to get there, and although it is off the beaten track, it is minutes from good roads, that can take you in many directions, either to the mountains, or the sea. Rethymnon isn't far away, and is a beautiful place to visit.

The local supermarket was very well stocked. Robin and Veronica the owners were very helpful and kind they gave us all kinds of hints on beaches and places to eat and also in giving us directions to a very good butcher, who also had a lovely white wine (I can't remember the name of it but Veronica will help out). I have to admit, that we did eat in allot, the views were just so captivating, so to sit there of an evening after a simple meal and a bottle of wine, looking at the sunset was something I will never forget. We went for one week as a couple we are in our 50's and then our family joined us with our Grand Children, who loved the pool, they never wanted to leave. When we did go out the country side around was just so beautiful, we would gasp with every corner we drove around at the stunning beauty of this country.

We also did have a lovely meal on a Sunday at the Taverna in Castellos, I would really recommend a meal there, and the atmosphere was totally Greek, Vasillis was such a character, he was really helpful when we were struggling to get fuel. The Government had shut the banks, and as a consequence all the petrol stations closed. We are definitely returning next year.

Wonderful position

  • 5 of 5

Villa Dris is in a superb location. Beautiful views. We felt as if we had stepped back in time, listening to the sound of the sheep moving pasture with their bells ringing around their necks, The villa, however, is modern and welcoming and well appointed. It has everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The location is wonderfully secluded but has the benefit of supermarket and bakery a short drive away and Rethymnon a few minutes down the road if more activity is sought. We enjoyed lovely circular walks from the villa. We would recommend it very highly and hope to return.

Stunning Location, Beautiful Villa.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Villa Dris 3 times. Twice as a couple and once with friends and our infant children. Every time has been very special.

The Villa itself is handsome, fringed with vines and bourganvillia. It was was very clean and decked out with everything we needed from cutlery to pots and pans to BBQ equipment. The garden is pretty and the views spectacular. Sitting on a hillside, 20 mins from Rethymno, the place is secluded and tranquil. It is close enough to the beaches and great bars and restaurants of the town for convenience but far enough away to feel like a real getaway.

Several superb tavernas are within striking distance. The local village has a bakery (try the refreshing Greek iced coffees and fresh rustic bread) and great little taverna that serves authentic, delicious cretan fare fresh from the land. There is a supermarket 5 mins away in Armeni. Everything you might need is on your door step.

My words can't really do the setting justice. It is a truly beautiful spot. Watching the sun set behind the mountains with a cold glass in hand is alone worth the trip.

Our FAVOURITE holiday home!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second holiday to Villa Dris, and hopefully not our last! Robin and Veronica responded promptly to our emails, and were always happy to give extra information and tips from car hire to restaurants. On both visits the villa has been well maintained and very clean, and it is extremely spacious inside. The villa is in an excellent location, a short drive to local amenities and both the north and south coast beaches. This part of Crete is unspoilt, you'll receive a warm welcome wherever you go and it's definitely worth discovering! The hilltop position means that you can truly enjoy the glorious Cretan weather as there is a welcome breeze in the height of summer, and the views are absolutely amazing. Our children particularly love the pool at the villa, it is much larger than you normally find with a holiday rent, and the high quality outdoor furniture and pool house are also extras which make Villa Dris stand out!

From the Owner

We wanted to buy a holiday home in the southern Medtiteranean. Having visited and rejected many places, we fell in love with Crete. We think it is the perfect holiday destiation with lots of sunshine, beautiful beaches, mountains, gorges, caves, friendly tavernas serving locally sourced food and drink. We searched for a villa with easy access to both airports, the N. and S. coasts and Rethymnon which we think is the nicest large town on the island. We also wanted a quiet location but to be near a village with local shops and and good tavernas. The villa had to have amazing panoramic views of the sea and mountains, be on a very large plot and have a large swimming pool. We only found one villa that met all our search criteria - Villa Dris !! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

From the Owner

It has fabulous views, a larger pool than most villas with the added benefit of Roman steps rather than the usual ladder. We also have a pool house with a kitchenette and shower room plus wc so you don't need to go into the villa when you are settled by the pool. There is the added bonus of having a Biodigestor sewerage system which allows you to flush toilet paper (no other items please) rather than putting it into the bathroom bin as is usual in Geece! We also have k/s beds with really expensive comfortable mattresses unlike the cheap uncomfortable ones you usually find in Greece.
