Charming Country House With Lake Access In Coniston, The Lake District, Cumbria

Overview

Property

Updated: 31-Oct-2016
4 Star Gold Country House with Private Lake Shore & Jetty in Coniston, Lake District, Cumbria

Tucked away between the lake and Grizedale Forest, the Eastern shore of Coniston Water has arguably some of the best views in Lakeland. Ruskin, Tennyson, Turner and Ransome have all been romanced by the majestic mountains across the lake and Coniston village nestled at their base a mile away. Set in the centre of this picnic perfect landscape, surrounded by farmland once owned by Beatrix Potter, the 16th century Townson Ground Estate boasts the ideal location for walking, biking, boating or simply relaxing. While away your days splashing around on the shoreline, hire a boat from the Coniston Boating Centre, or bring your own and moor it at the private jetty; spend the week fishing or sailing; plan rural rambles through the forest or the fells that end sitting by roaring fires in slate floored pubs, pints of Coniston’s Bluebird Bitter in hand. Townson Ground House is a celebration of comfort and style. Owned by Interior Designer Jayne Reeve and her husband Joe, the house offers self-catering accommodation for 14 guests. Perfect for the extended family or a group of friends, charm emanates from the relaxed interiors. Fall into floral sofas and warm your toes around the open fires in the sitting room; eat hearty meals around the huge rustic French dining table next door. Each bedroom wows, one has its own copper bath, another an antique bed, Colefax and Fowler wall papers and reclaimed Belgium tiles bring colour and detail to cool en-suite bathrooms. There are board games for rainy days and the private lake frontage for sunny ones. Plenty of places of interest locally and lots of good eating establishments close by. Horse riding, mountain biking, hiking, climbing and caving; it’s all within easy reach but what could be better at the end of the day, than coming home to this perfect rural retreat. Available to book through the LAKELAND COTTAGE COMPANY for weekly bookings, and out of season - 3-night weekends (Friday start) or 4-night (Monday start) mid week breaks.
