About Judy Jagmohan
I am from the UK and my partner, Kostas is Greek. Kostas's mother is from Siderokastro, a village in the mountains nearby and we were touring the area many years ago when we happened to stumble through a pine forest on to the longest beach we had ever seen in Greece! On leaving, we bumped into the volunteers of Archelon and learnt that Kyparissia Bay is the largest nesting ground of the Loggerhead Turtle in the Mediterranean. I then spent all my summers in a tent volunteering until the house was built!!! The villa was designed by us and built in 2006 whilst we were expecting our daughter. We are bilingual, very knowledgeable about the local area and more than happy to help whenever we can.
Judy Jagmohan purchased this villa in 2006
Why Judy Jagmohan chose Messinia
The stone used to construct the villa was brought from the southern greek region of the Mani and constructed in a traditional style by local stonemasons. The stone was sourced from a 100 year old Mani house and many contain fossils and crystals.
What makes this villa unique
The villa is nestled amongst olive groves with views of the Ionian sea and the mountains of Kyparissia. Tranquil and relaxing with perfect sunset views and enveloped in a sea of greenery.

We had a great stay in the beginning of October. Two families with kids. The House is even better than on the photos, and the hosts were very friendly, kind and service minded. Beautiful sunset view and a very tranquil environment, with olive trenes and nice paths for running. At night some of the dogs in the area were barking, and they kept some in our party a bit sleepless at night. But again, what is better than sleeping it out at beautiful beaches the day after, and we could enjoy them all almost by ourselves! Thanks for a great stay, would love to return.
Our entire stay could not have been any better! The house is beautiful and fully equipped with everything you need and more! Really light, spacious, amazing pizza oven, BBQ, football pitch, pool, table tennis! Kostas and Judy were also both lovely to deal with, really helpful and gave us great tips on what to do, including a boat trip, waterfalls, dinner recommendations, turtle survey etc. Could not recommend it anymore! Thank you for a brilliant holiday!!
Perfect Villa with stunning view. Awesome
Thank you Judy and Kostas for letting us stay in your beautiful home. You were both lovely hosts, very welcoming and friendly and full of top tips on places to visit / taverna's etc, and it was good to know you were only a text away should we have needed anything.
We had a fantastic holiday, the house had everything we needed from insect nets at the windows, fans in the bedrooms to a beautiful garden and pool and of course a lovely view of the sea and mountains. Everything was clean and well maintained and we all enjoyed pancakes for breakfast made with freshly laid eggs from the chickens , and homemade pizza coked in the wood oven.
We had several days out during our stay all within easy reach from the villa. South of the villa, just over an hours drive we visited Voidokillia beach, Gialova , Navarino Bay where we hired a boat for the day and saw the monuments around the bay and did some snorkelling.
North of the villa we visited the archeological site of Olympia then had lunch at the Bacchus restaurant ( to avoid the touristy olympia village ) good lunch and lovely views of the countryside ( about 5-10 minutes drive outside the olympic village on the main road east of olympia , in a place called Ancient Pissa). We then drove the Apollo Temple, which was slightly disappointing as it was covered in a large tent during restoration work, but the drive there was beautiful as long as you can cope with hair-pin bends on the mountain roads.
We also visit the site of ancient Messene, we went early to avoid the heat and then had delicious lunch in the family run taverna, Ithomi in village of Mavromati , which has good views of the ruins.
Shorter trips near the villa included some Tombs and a restored watermill, which does an excellent chocolate cake.
We were also lucky enough during our stay to see baby loggerhead turtles hatching at Kalo Nero beach. We spent about 30 minutes with the turtle protection group from about 10.30pm. Very informative and interesting , would loved to have spent longer and done the whole night survey but unfortunately we weren't allowed as they have had lots problems with people destroying nests etc. I hope to come back and volunteer properly one day.
We still had plenty of time to chill out at the villa and enjoy the pool and the beautiful sunsets. Kids were aged 14 and 16 and both had a really good holiday. We would definitely recommend staying here. Thank you once again. Tracy, Tim, Lily & Jack
This villa had everything, well planned and well equipped wonderful views and good location. It is perfect for a family or group holiday. It is near the beach and it is also possible to visit ancient sites like Olympia. The owners were nearby in case there were any problems (which there weren't) and were helpful with tips of where to visit. I would recommend the villa to anyone.
A fantastic break at this villa for a week in late May 2016
We have just returned from a weeks break at this villa and have had a fantastic time
The villa is very well equipped and in great condition
Judy and Kostas are excellent hosts
The views from the villa, terrace and pool are perfect and the BBQ was well used during our stay
Plenty of outdoor space for children to run around and explore securely and my daughter loved collecting the chicken eggs each day
I would thoroughly recommend a stay at this villa, with such a large property and grounds it would easily host a large group!
Great family home turned into perfect holiday home. Beautiful place.
The owners were incredibly helpful without being intrusive. Wonderful indoor and outdoor living spaces. Very private, beautiful rural spot yet 4 minutes in car from shops, fabulous beach etc. A very good location for exploring the Peloponnese. Could not recommend it more.

Activity and Interests
Beaches and Archeological sites:
A 6 minute drive from the villa leads to the Bay of Kyparissia with wide sandy beaches stretching for 60 km lined by sand dunes, coastal pine forest and watermelon fields. A designated NATURA protected habitat, the beaches are mainly undeveloped and prefect for sun and nature lovers. The Greek Sea Turtle Society (Archelon) protects the nests of the Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta Caret), an endangered species, along 14 km of stunning coastline just north of the villa.
The beaches of Kalo Nero and to the south, Sani Paradise Beach and Kyparissia Beach have tourist facilities, whereas the northern beaches of Vounaki, Aggiannaki, Elaia, Giannitsohori and Tholo are completely unspoilt. These beaches are wide and sandy, just how the turtles like them! South of Kyparissia, towards Agrili, Gianitsana Stormio and Laguvados, the scenery changes and there are coves and good snorkelling.
A little further, at Marathopoli there are lovely seafront restaurants with fresh seafood and boat trips can be made to and around the small island of Proti opposite which is great for snorkelling.
Further still, about 30 minutes drive is the famous horseshoe shaped beach of Voidokilia and the Gialova Lagoon nature reserve. An atmospheric ruined castle on top of a cliff, Paleokastro, can be reached by a path leading to the top and if you are reasonably fit, its possible to trek down the other side past Nestors Cave, to the beach. Walk around the lagoon in the early morning or sunset and you may see flamingos (yes its true!), egrets, herons and kingfishers. The African Chameleon also nests there.
A detour to the archeological site of Nestors Palace is well worth it here.
The small but beautiful seaside village of Gialova is also a great option for eating out as it has a wonderful selection of both authentic Greek and international food as well as interesting shops.
The next stop is the historical port town of Pilos where the famous Battle of Naverino Bay took place. A stunning and well preserved town where boat trips can be taken around the huge bay. A large variety of water sports are also available here as well as sailing boat hire. Just 11 kms away is the vast castle complex at Methoni, well preserved and dating from many different historical periods, the tip of the castle juts out into the sea!
The villa is 40 mins drive from Kalamata airport with UK flights via Easyjet, Ryan Air, Thomas Cook and Aegean Airlines. Pick up taxis can be arranged. Car hire is essential for exploring the area and there are several local providers. KTEL buses operate local and national services. Athens is 3 hours drive. Patras port with connections to Italy is 2 hours. The port of Kilini with ferries to Zakynthos and Kefallonia is 1.5 hours drive. Kalamata port ferries operate to Kythira, Crete and Athens.
The villa is 2.5 km from Kalo Nero village and 7.5 km from Kyparissia. The ancient tombs of Peristeria are 3 km. Ancient Olympia is 55 km, Ancient Messini 40 km. The historical town of Pylos, Navarino Bay, Gialova Lagoon (NATURA site and home to the rare African Chameleon as well as flamingos, egrets and herons) and Voidokilia Beach (a stunning horseshoe bay) are all under an hours drive south. Methoni Castle and Nestors Palace (1 hour). The River Neda Gorge waterfalls and Polylimnio (1 hour).
The nearby pretty seaside village of Kalo Nero is located on a 2 km beach, with both organised and secluded natural areas including sea turtle nests. The beach extends to the north for 60 km and forms part of the Bay of Kyparissia. A swimming pool bar, including kids pool, is situated on the sea front, as well as several authentic waterfront tavernas with live traditional Greek music, fresh fish and local dishes, mini markets and shops with local Greek produce. It has a relaxed and intimate atmosphere as the area has not yet been fully developed and can be explored on foot. The market town of Kyparissia with its port and all modern facilities including banks, supermarkets, bars, nightclubs and restaurants is 15 minute drive. A walk through the historical upper town leads to the ruins of a Frankish castle and amphitheatre with stunning views of the bay.
