Casa Mariposa is a characterful whitewashed Andalucian Finca. It is peaceful and private with breathtaking panoramic views of the Sierra Tejeda National Park and Lake Viñuela. One great advantage is that it is only a 40 minute drive from Malaga Airport which is served by a wide range of budget airlines.
Casa Mariposa has it's own private 10 metre by 6 metre pool set in a huge pool terrace with panoramic views of Lake Vinuela and the Mountains. The pool terrace is South facing with sun all day and has sunbeds and furniture to relax on and a parasol for shade and large BBQ. With the breathtaking panoramic views of the outstanding beauty of the Andalucian countryside, Casa Mariposa is a perfect location for rest and relaxation, eating and drinking, soaking up the sun, or sitting in the many private shady areas in the mature gardens and terraces around the Villa.
If you are more energetic and adventurous, there are hundreds of miles of mountain tracks for walkers and mountain biking. There is a 4 x 4 centre offering quads and buggy's, horse riding centres, water sports and boat hire on Lake Vinuela itself. The fantastic 3km of beach of Torre del Mar only 20 minutes away with its water park which is great for adults and children alike. There is also a local go carting track and some local golf courses where club and buggy hire is available.
The National Park of Sierra de Tejeda is within 5 minutes drive of the Villa. It has picnic and BBQ areas for public use and adventure playgrounds for children. It is famous for its mountain goats, fabulous scenery with mountain gorges and the 10km mountain pass suitable for motor vehicles.
The complex of El Ingenio is only 15 minutes drive away and has a large indoor shopping centre, large supermarket, designer shops, cinema, bowling alley & many bars and restaurants.
Fiestas are held in all the towns and villages throughout the year. Velez Malaga, the nearest town is steeped in history, complete with an historical castle and offers a wide variety of bars, restaurants and shops.
The Villa is well located for visiting further afield attractions as well as the many attractions available more locally. These range from Ronda in the West to Granada in the East (where you can visit the famous Alhambra Palace). A short scenic 20 min drive takes you to the coast, a major shopping centre and the bustling Spanish seaside resort of Torre del Mar and its famous fish tapas bars! Further afield, if you wish to see more sights, Granada, Seville, Cordoba, Antequera and Gibraltar are all within travelling distance by car or train. Nerja, with its famous caves is a short drive away and is a beautiful traditional, bustling coastal town.
It is well worth returning to the City of Malaga (that you passed after leaving the airport). Malaga is the birthplace of Picasso and boasts historic architecture and the Picasso Museum, wonderful shops, a Port and a Marina. Also near Malaga and the Airport is Marbella and Puerta Banus. Both are worth a visit. Further afield is the UK territory of Gibraltar which is also worth a visit as it is steeped in History and has great shops and bars.
The Lake Vinuela area has a mild, Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. So outdoor living is possible most of the year. You can enjoy tapas and sample lovely and inexpensive local wines at the Villa or whilst strolling through the typical Andalucian white villages. In the winter, you can go skiing at the well-equipped resort of Solynieve in the Sierra Nevada, which is just under 2 hours drive away.
Both locally and further afield there are some fantastic 'typically Spanish bars and restaurants.
Andrew is an Architect living in Manchester and Helen recently retired. We bought Casa Mariposa in December 2014 as a holiday home where we could relax and escape the pressures of work! We hope to spend many happy times there with family and friends in all seasons. We have started a programme of refurbishment to lovingly and sympathetically restore and enhance it to a very high standard. We made the decision to offer the property to rent and it will be available to rent from March 2015. We wanted to retain the use of it ourselves and also hope that people who rent it will be renting year after year as they too are charmed by the property and the area.... Year purchased: 2014.

We've been staying in villas for 16 years and this is the nicest we've ever been in! The space is beautifully arranged for either quiet alone time or togetherness - whatever suits on any given day. The pool is fabulous and big enough to actually swim in if that's what you need, the villa is equipped with absolutely everything you could possibly need, including hairdryers and shampoo by the outside shower! Helen, the owner, responded quickly to every single email sent to her and made us feel incredibly welcome in her "home away from home".
To be fair, must mention that the lovely quiet location means that there is nothing at all within walking distance unless you like a good hilly walk. Best place we found to get to a beach easily was Caleta de Valez where there is also a market on Saturday and it's only 20 mins away - parking opposite Aldi and to the left!
Fabulous place for a peaceful and relaxed holiday - thoroughly recommend.
Everything about this villa was excellent including the attention to detail shown by Helen. The rooms were spacious and well equipped and getting UK TV during the Euros was a real bonus. There are plenty of comfortable seating areas on all aspects of the property to either get sun or shade or just to read quietly.
The villa is easy to find and being a short drive from Malaga airport and although in a residential area, had great views and easy access to local village and restaurants. The area is very quiet with no passing traffic.
The pool was a generous size and well maintained with a great area for sunbathing or shade as required. The pools aspect meant that it was not in shade until well into the evening. We spent more time by and in the pool than in the villa and it provided lots of fun
Thoroughly recommend this villa and we will definitely think of going back again.
I don't often write reviews but when I'm really happy with something, I feel the need to shout about it!! I stayed here with my wife to be in November hoping for some winter sun and relaxing. We were both thoroughly impressed!! The beautiful villa was clean, with great facilities and Helen and Andrew couldn't do enough to ensure we had everything we needed for our stay. Top notch customer service, I would definitely recommend to anyone considering staying. The local shops were a short drive away if we needed top ups on breakfast or beers however when we weren't sun bathing by the beautiful (huge) swimming pool we were off looking round the pretty local towns and eating at the local restaurants which were excellent value for money! The place was gorgeous with great views. Children would have hours of fun in the pool, we big kids certainly did!! Thanks so much Helen and Drew, we hope to return next year and will be recommending your villa to family and friends!!
If you are looking for the perfect place to relax, soak up some Spanish sun and be surrounded by a stunning awe inspiring view wherever you cast your eyes then this villa is definitely the place for you. I was impressed by the pictures and description but when we arrived I was in awe, which is in this day and age, a rarity. The villa itself is stunning. Beautifully decorated, with gorgeous finishing touches including a log fire and cute breakfast bar area. The bedrooms are comfy and spacious and the place was spotless. Cleanliness is a big thing for me so I was truly impressed. Then we saw the pool!!! Head up to the pool area and soak up the sun whilst gazing at the Andalusian mountains. It was November and I spent all day splashing around and getting a winter tan which was most unexpected! I cannot recommend this place enough. The owners are a delight to deal with, the area is full of authentic Spanish gems (restaurants/bars/little shops) all tucked away in pretty little white washed towns nestled in the mountains.. fans of tapas will adore this place!!
Had an absolutely beautiful stay at Helen and Andrews villa. Despite being November the temperature was still in the mid 20s, and was a beautiful time to sit by the pool.
The villa had all the comforts of home, and rather fast Wifi access included.
I can highly recommend staying here, with its beautiful landscapes and access to restaurants in the nearby area.
The villa is in a good location, close to Malaga. Granada, Córdoba and Gibraltar are all within 2 hours drive. There are some good restaurants and supermarkets within 5 minutes drive.
Torre del Mar an excellent beach within 20 minutes drive, two very good shopping centres are within 20 minutes drive(Ingenio and de la Victoria)
The villa is well furnished with fast WiFi, Sky TV, washing machine, dishwasher and everything you need. There are three terraces, front, back and the pool section.
The pool is huge and very clean, it was cleaned once by a contractor while we were staying there, it has lights and also lights inside the pool so we could use it at night as well.
Owner was very helpful and provided lots of information about the area, also emailed me a couple of times to ask if I needed anything.
We enjoyed our stay at the villa and we highly recommend it.

We purchased the house recently & this is our first season renting so all house contents including linen, towels, crockery etc etc are brand new. We are continuing to upgrade and add to all facilities to make the house fabulous. Bookings run from 4pm Sat to 10am Sat but we are flexible.
To confirm the booking we require one third of the rental. The remainder, plus a fully refundable household deposit of £200, becomes due 8 weeks prior to your arrival. Pets are strictly by prior arrangement.
