Holiday home in Salcombe, South Devon, England - Ideal For Friends And Families To Share The Holiday Experience

Situated close to the seaside Lanapoule makes an ideal base for couples or families to explore Devon’s wonderful South Hams

Lanapoule is a modern comfortable four bedroom house which make the most of the estuary glimpses and beautiful Devonshire countryside with views of Dartmoor in the distance. Lanapoule can accommodate a maximum of 9 people, which makes them ideal for families and friends to come together and relax.

The large, gently terraced lawned gardens, provide very pleasant level areas for children to play, outside entertaining or places simply to enjoy the open aspect. The foot of the garden steps down to a private Mediterranean patio BBQ area.

There is a wonderful 25m outdoor heated swimming pool within 100 metres. This can be hired for private use (see internet for details).

Salcombe is extremely popular as a sailing holiday destination, boasting a fabulous harbour and many facilities for boating enthusiasts. Indeed the annual sailing Regatta brings thousands to the town every year. Salcombe also has two beaches, North Sands and South Sands, both of which remain unspoilt and are perfect for sailing, surfing, swimming, sandcastle building, rock pooling or simply relaxing! Try crabbing on the quayside with a locally made ice cream, explore the National Trust gardens at Overbecks or for something more exhilarating, walk along the South West Coast Path and enjoy the breath-taking views out to sea. The town offers shops ranging from the butchers and bakery, to independent boutiques and designer clothing outlets.The main Fore Street also boasts many fabulous restaurants, offering fresh, locally caught seafood, including delicious South Devon crab. Visitors can soak up the exciting atmosphere in the Summer, or the calm, relaxed vibe in the town out of season. The surrounding villages and hamlets also provide plenty of quieter retreats, for those looking to experience true peace and tranquillity in the South Devon countryside.

The South Hams: southernmost Devon; between the river Dart and river Tamar and south of Dartmoor, lush farmland and wooded river valleys turning to beautiful estuaries, its coast very beautiful and remarkably well preserved – sandy beaches and mighty cliffs between those estuaries, amazingly little sprawling modern ugliness. Inland too, away from main roads, it remains surprisingly peaceful. Among special coastal places are Dartmouth; sheltered Blackpool Sands; Slapton's long curve of pebble beach and nature reserve lagoon; the cliffs about Start Point and Prawle Point, Bolt Head and Bolt Tail; East Portlemouth's beach and Salcombe's location and views; Thurlestone proving that family seaside places don't need to be brash; Bigbury's huge sands and the fun of getting to Burgh Island; waterside, oak-wood-sheltered Noss Mayo/Newton Ferrers; many others, less easy of access, are for you to discover. Kingsbridge and Totnes, both old, attractive and small, are the towns at the area's heart; Plymouth – the West Country's biggest town, with Naval base, ferry port, theatre, cinemas, history, Hoe (great views) and Barbican (where the life is) – is on the area's edge. Dartington Hall is an arts centre (films, plays, music, dance) with lovely gardens. Pleasure cruisers ply the Kingsbridge estuary and Dart and Tamar rivers.

My wife and I live in South Shropshire and have 2 sons, a pet dog called Lily and two cats.

Both of us are retired and have been enjoying holidays with family and close friends at our holiday home in Salcombe for many years. We have made many friends locally and quite simply have fallen in love with the area. We have spent much time walking the countryside, enjoying the nearby beaches and exploring the many historic market towns that the South Hams has to offer. Our holiday home is child friendly as we have a grandchild. We over 30 years experience in holiday lettings.

We stayed at Lanapoule for a week. This is exactly as the photos show, very clean and well looked after. It is well positioned for visiting South Hams. We played golf at Bigbury twice.

We stayed at Lanapoule for 5 nights and it was everything we needed. Its only a short drive to the main centre of Salcombe and all the neighbouring beaches and activities. The open plan living and kitchen has commanding views of the beautiful Devon countryside and the recently renovated property was in great condition. We took our young family and had a great time. We would recommend this Lanapoule to anyone.

Close to town centre although if have children in pushchairs it's very steep to get back so catch the bus!

Lovely little outdoor pool less than 5 mins away and a play area

Woodland leisure park is def worth a visit as is the winking prawn close by.

We stayed at Lanapoule in March 2014 for 4 days and had a wonderful time. We were extremely lucky with the weather, given the time of year. North Sands is surprisingly close to the house so we could easily walk to and from the beach, which we really made the most of. The accommodation is a perfect base for exploring the beautiful area. The views from the living room in the property are absolutely stunning. One of my favourite parts of our stay was settling down in the comfy chair by the Juliet balcony for a while with a glass of wine, taking in the spectacular scenery. We loved the décor in the apartment. It had just been refurbished before our stay I believe. The subtle sailing details in the bedrooms were a nice touch and we liked the modern, tasteful decoration throughout the rest of the property. We enjoyed a very relaxing stay and will definitely be re-booking later this year.

Lovely House With Excellent Views

Four adults, four children and two dogs stayed in Lanapoule very comfortably. The house itself was very clean with all the facilities required and set in an excellent location. The Owner gave excellent communication and the welcome pack provided all the information required. I would definitely like to return to Lanapoule.

Lanapoule holiday home in Salcombe

Stayed at Lanapoule in August 2016 along with rest of family including young children. The house was well presented and ideal for our needs. Due to the layout we had excellent views across the countryside & estuary towards Salcombe. Lanapoule was just 20 minute walk into Salcombe but allow 30 minutes return due to step hill back. The house was comfortable and had everything we needed including access to a pleasant garden. The owner, John Wright, communicated well and made sure everything was clear in terms of the location of Lanapoule and places of interest around Salcombe. Really enjoyable holiday.

Lovely Large Family House

The perfect house for a large family. We fell in love with the open plan living area on the top floor with panoramic views of the countryside and sea.Off street parking during August for 2 medium sized cars was a welcome bonus. Would highly recommend this holiday home.

Nearest Barpub : at 1 Miles Nearest Restaurant : at 1 Miles Car: recommended


North Sands beach is a favourite of ours, a fine sandy beach with the wonderful 'Winking Prawn' café and restaurant looking over - 15min walk away. Alternatively from Salcombe town is a regular 5min ferry ride across the Salcombe estuary to East Portlemouth beach. A short drive away there are other sandy beaches nearby at Hope Cove, Soar Cove, Bantham, Bigbury and Salcombe South Sands. Further afield there are two amazing beaches - Slapton Sands and Blackpool Sands.


A car is essential. We are less than an hour from Plymouth, about an hour from Exeter & Exeter Airport and 30mins by car from Totnes Train Station.


Salcombe town and its lovely shops, restaurants and beaches are approx. 15 minute walk away. Kingsbridge Town is approx. 5 mile drive with 2 large supermarkets, cinema, shops and restaurants. Dartmouth, Totnes are a 30min drive and Plymouth is approx 45min by car.

Further Details:

There is a Spar mini market convenience store less than a 2 minute walk away. Also there is an outdoor community swimming pool and tennis courts less nearby, than a 5 minute walk away.
