A luxury penthouse apartment on the top floor of the converted, grade-II listed Victorian cinema sleeps four people in two bedrooms and two bathrooms. With a large sunny, private balcony high above the waterfront with wonderful uninterrupted views of the estuary, village and out to sea, this unique apartment captures all the charm and character of Appledore while offering modern facilities and a feeling of space and proximity to the water.

Offering stunning views of the estuary and village from the top floor of this converted Victorian cinema, the penthouse apartment gives visitors an unparalleled perspective of this popular North Devon fishing village.

In decades past the building seated 300 cinema goers, but now the Gaiety Penthouse offers luxury accommodation for four people, with modern amenities and an uninterrupted 180° + vista from the breaking waves of Westward Ho! to the sandy beach at Instow and the village of Appledore.

The open plan living room with kitchen and dining area provides an abundance of natural light as well as access to a large, sunny balcony overlooking the water. Two en-suite bedrooms (one double, one double/twin) benefit from plenty to space, as well as views over the village and the estuary. Situated a few hundred yards along the narrow, partially cobbled Irsha Street which is part of the South West Coastal Path and full of quaint, colourful fishermen’s cottages, the Penthouse is a short walk from Appledore’s quayside.

This is my first holiday property and I am torn between spending more time in the Penthouse and letting it out!

With family living in the area for 20 years, I have spent many happy hours in North Devon and I'm pleased to be able to share it with visitors.

My sister runs a holiday park locally and she and her family help me to manage the penthouse to offer you a special holiday.

Why Chris Ritchie chose North Devon

I had been looking for a property in North Devon for several years and as soon as I walked into the Penthouse knew it was the right place. The light airy apartment, the sunny balcony above the water and the stunning views indicated this was somewhere to spend many happy hours.

In the heart of characterful Irsha Street in the ever popular Appledore, the Penthouse is a short walk from pubs, restaurants and the shops on the Quay and a short drive from great beaches, surf and golf courses.

If you like the outdoors this area has lots to offer.

What makes this apartment unique

While the Penthouse is just a short walk from some great pubs and restaurants and has easy access to the beaches, walks and cycle trails of North Devon, you will also want to spend as much time as possible talking in the views and watching the world go by from the sunny balcony!

the property was beautiful, lovely big sofas in the living room. Nice en suite in the main bedroom. Great views over the estuary. We know Appledore very well and had some lovely food in the Seagate. overall a great place for a short break would recommend to all our friends and would definitely return for another short break.

A gorgeous apartment with stunning views

We have just returned from a short stay in the Appledore Penthouse Apartment, which turned out to be a brilliant choice of accommodation. We chose it mainly for the views, which were even better than expected. The apartment was warm, comfortable and very well equipped. The linen was good quality and everything was very clean. If we ever return to Appledore we won't even bother looking for anywhere else to stay because this apartment is just perfect.

Fantastic apartment, location and river views

A great week in Appledore again. First time we rented this apartment and it was just what we wanted. Fantastic location in Appledore. Really nice water views from the balcony as you are right next to the river. It was a great place for morning coffee and a glass of wine in the evening when the toddler was asleep finally. The apartment is well equiped, modern and clean. Worth every penny this one.

Hope to be back again soon.

Everything you need for a treat of a holiday!

We enjoyed the best part of 4 days here, recently, with changeable weather, unfortunately. The pleasure of breakfast on the balcony, in the sun, on 2 mornings more than compensated, however. A constantly changing view is a pleasure.

The Penthouse was spotlessly clean; there is everything you could need in the kitchen which is a change, from experience! Dishwasher a bonus.....

Lovely BIG towels, thank you, & quality bed linen, strong showers.

Loved John's deli & cafe, the Coffee Cabin, (who do takeaways during office hours) & had a delicious meal at The Seagate, but not as impressed with The Boathouse seafood restaurant in Instow, despite having been recommended it by other people staying locally.

Also found Marwood Gardens a delight, yummy food., virtually every plane/tree labelled (!), Docton Mill gardens a tranquil end to an afternoon with a delicious cream tea & Hartland Abbey a chance to stretch legs & enjoy the gardens there, too.

We really enjoyed our stay & would thoroughly recommend it to any future holidaymakers.

Outside: French windows in the lounge lead to a large, private and sunny balcony with stunning views. Right on the waterfront the top floor balcony offers uninterrupted views from the villages of Appledore and Instow in the south east, across the Taw and Torridge estuary to Saunton Sands and Crow Point and all the way to Westwood Ho! and the sea in the west. A small table and comfortable chairs mean that this is a wonderful place to spend a day from breakfast until evening drinks! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are included and are changed on a weekly basis, as is the apartment if required during longer lets. Other: There is a large entrance hall on the lower level that offers storage space. In addition to the en-suite bedrooms, a separate toilet at the top of the stairs provides added convenience.
