A luxury penthouse apartment on the top floor of the converted, grade-II listed Victorian cinema sleeps four people in two bedrooms and two bathrooms. With a large sunny, private balcony high above the waterfront with wonderful uninterrupted views of the estuary, village and out to sea, this unique apartment captures all the charm and character of Appledore while offering modern facilities and a feeling of space and proximity to the water.

Offering stunning views of the estuary and village from the top floor of this converted Victorian cinema, the penthouse apartment gives visitors an unparalleled perspective of this popular North Devon fishing village.

In decades past the building seated 300 cinema goers, but now the Gaiety Penthouse offers luxury accommodation for four people, with modern amenities and an uninterrupted 180° + vista from the breaking waves of Westward Ho! to the sandy beach at Instow and the village of Appledore.

The open plan living room with kitchen and dining area provides an abundance of natural light as well as access to a large, sunny balcony overlooking the water. Two en-suite bedrooms (one double, one double/twin) benefit from plenty to space, as well as views over the village and the estuary. Situated a few hundred yards along the narrow, partially cobbled Irsha Street which is part of the South West Coastal Path and full of quaint, colourful fishermen’s cottages, the Penthouse is a short walk from Appledore’s quayside.

This is my first holiday property and I am torn between spending more time in the Penthouse and letting it out!

With family living in the area for 20 years, I have spent many happy hours in North Devon and I'm pleased to be able to share it with visitors.

My sister runs a holiday park locally and she and her family help me to manage the penthouse to offer you a special holiday.

I had been looking for a property in North Devon for several years and as soon as I walked into the Penthouse knew it was the right place. The light airy apartment, the sunny balcony above the water and the stunning views indicated this was somewhere to spend many happy hours.

In the heart of characterful Irsha Street in the ever popular Appledore, the Penthouse is a short walk from pubs, restaurants and the shops on the Quay and a short drive from great beaches, surf and golf courses.

If you like the outdoors this area has lots to offer.

What makes this apartment unique

While the Penthouse is just a short walk from some great pubs and restaurants and has easy access to the beaches, walks and cycle trails of North Devon, you will also want to spend as much time as possible talking in the views and watching the world go by from the sunny balcony!

Notes:
Outside: French windows in the lounge lead to a large, private and sunny balcony with stunning views. Right on the waterfront the top floor balcony offers uninterrupted views from the villages of Appledore and Instow in the south east, across the Taw and Torridge estuary to Saunton Sands and Crow Point and all the way to Westwood Ho! and the sea in the west. A small table and comfortable chairs mean that this is a wonderful place to spend a day from breakfast until evening drinks! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are included and are changed on a weekly basis, as is the apartment if required during longer lets. Other: There is a large entrance hall on the lower level that offers storage space. In addition to the en-suite bedrooms, a separate toilet at the top of the stairs provides added convenience.

Stylish, unique with wonderful views!

Our second visit to the Appledore Penthouse and we will book again! This is a superb property; well equipped, attractive, comfortable and of course the wonderful views over the estuary. Lots of things to do and see close by and further afield. Appledore is a lovely, unspoilt place but with plenty of activity around the harbour pubs and cafes. Chris, the owner was easy to contact and responded to any queries within 24 hours.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Appledore, lovely part of the country from which to explore North Devon. The apartment was fantastic, very well equipped and everything done to a high standard. The views from the balcony across the estuary and to Instow and Crow Point were beautiful and a couple of the sunsets were amazing! Would definitely like to return next year!

Terrific destination by the water

We selected this property as a place to put our feet up for a few days towards the end of 2 months of travel. The location and apartment were ideal. This 2nd (top) floor attic apartment presents as the photos depict. It is light filled, spacious, private and perfectly positioned to watch the amazing tide. It is nicely decorated and not overfilled with personal items. The kitchen is well equipped making it easy to prepare meals at home but there are also some good pubs and coffee shops within a few minutes walk. All communication with Chris was via email and the process of checking in went smoothly. Our visit was in late June and we had no trouble finding a park for our car at £3 per day in the nearby Churchfield car park.

Appledore is beautiful with plenty nearby for kids and adults alike. The property was perfect. Good size and great location. It was immaculate and the owner seems like a nice chap. A bottle of wine on arrival too just topped it off.

Special interest holidays:

Ideally located for the Appledore Book Festival!

Coast/Beach:

Westward Ho!, Saunton, Croyde, Puttsborough & Woolacombe are just a few of the famous local beaches, loved by both families and more adventurous visitors including surfers and kitesurfers.

Westwood Ho! is a long walk or a short drive, while Instow beach can be accessed via the Instow Ferry operating from the Appledore quay.

Saunton, Croyde, Puttsborough and Woolacombe are well worth the 30-45 minute drive to the other side of the estuary.

Travel:

With easy access from junction 27 of the M5 along the A361 and a short distance on the A39, Appledore is a straightforward car journey.

The nearest train station is in Barnstaple while National Express offer bus services to Bideford, about 3 miles from Appledore.

International airports are found at Exeter, Bristol and Newquay

Distances:

In the heart of Irsha Street you will find pubs within a few minutes walk in either direction while local shops and cafes take a couple of minutes longer!

Further Details:

Appledore is a characterful and popular village on the Taw/Torridge Estuary, just inland from Westward Ho! and looking across at Crow Point and the World Heritage site of Braunton Burrows.

With easy access on foot, on a bicycle, by car or even ferry to the many attractions and fine sandy beaches of the local North Devon area, there is always something to do. The shops and amenities of Bideford and Barnstaple are also just a short drive away.

Appledore offers cafés, pubs and restaurants, a well-stocked deli and distinctive side streets, as well as being home to the famous Hockings ice-cream and some of the best fish and chips anywhere, so you should never go hungry!

Well worth a visit are John’s of Instow, The Seagate, and The Coffee Cabin all situated on the Appledore Quay, despite misleading name of the former!

John’s is a deli with lots of local produce, a cafe and a small supermarket while The Seagate is a characterful and popular pub with excellent food that has recently be refurbished. A recent addition to the village that is already gathering an enthusiastic following and great reviews, The Coffee Cabin serves great coffee and and homemade treats.

Out of the summer season, the Appledore Book Festival in October is a well worth a visit along with the likes of Michael Morpurgo, Richard Madeley, Jeremy Vine, Lord Owen and Helen Dunmore and Faye Weldon.
