A favourite apartment with many, Casa Arenas is the closest to the beach and offers the largest terrace, facing south and west and bathed in sunshine from morning to sunset. From the table and chairs or from one of the two sun loungers, there is a magnificent sea view. Patio doors lead into a very bright living and dining room with easy chairs and large flat screen TV. Beyond is a modern fitted kitchen with gas hob and microwave oven, full fridge freezer, coffee maker and toaster. Casa las Arenas has an ultra-modern wet room with shower, basin, WC and bidet and two bedrooms, one with a queen size double bed and the other with two single beds and both with large fitted wardrobes. The single sofa bed in the living room offers an additional sleeping place or a Z-bed for a child can be provided in either bedroom on request. For a baby, travel cot hire is available at 5€ per week or part thereof. Maximum occupancy is however 5 adults. 6 only if your family includes 1 or more children.
Our apartments are situated in a small, friendly but very peaceful development of just 11, built in a modern interpretation of traditional, whitewashed Canarian architecture. We are in a secluded location, well away from any other buildings, situated directly above a safe, sandy beach and sheltered, tidal lagoon, ideal for lazy days soaking up the sun. Residents have either a south or west-facing terrace (ground floor) or balcony (upper floor) with panoramic ocean views and use of the sub-tropical communal garden with its dragon trees, bougainvillea, oleander and hibiscus, from which it is down just 5 steps onto the white sands of a small bay edged by black lava reefs and with crystal-clear, warm water.
Inside the apartments each have 2 bedrooms, one with a queen-size double bed and the other with two singles. There is ample storage in the fitted wardrobes. Either a sofa bed in the living room or a folding 'Z-bed' is available for a child free of charge and a cot and high chair can be hired locally from the manager if required for a small fee of 20 € per stay.
Each apartment has a pleasant, recently-refurbished shower room with a white suite (some with bidet) and a recently-fitted and fully-equipped kitchen with either electric or gas hob (some have an oven), fridge-freezer, microwave oven, electric coffee maker and toaster, together with all the pots and pans, crockery, cutlery, etc. you would expect to find in a self-catering holiday property.
From the living/dining room, where you will find a sofa and armchair(s) and a digital TV/Radio withe DVD/CD player, French windows open onto the terrace or balcony which has a table and 4 chairs (together with 2 sun loungers in ground floor apartments.)
Bed linen and hand, bath and kitchen towels are supplied and changed weekly. Please bring your own beach towels with you (or beach towel hire is available cheaply from the Lavanderia El Cotillo in the Calle 3. abril de 1.979.
WiFi internet access is provided for guests' use.
Our apartments should appeal to those who dislike crowds and big holiday resorts, who don’t insist on all the latest gadgets, but are happy to live quite simply for a week or two right by the sea. A treat for families with younger kids, older couples in search of a get-away from-it-all location, naturists, sun-worshippers, bird-watchers and walkers.
El Cotillo itself remains a traditional fishing village with tourist facilities rather than an overgrown resort. There are about a dozen restaurants, mostly Canarian with a couple of Italian places (including what are supposed to be, according to the guide books, Fuerte's best Italian restaurant and best beach bar). The majority of restaurants have terraces overlooking the sea and very fresh, locally-caught fish is obviously the big draw on most menus. There are several bars, both traditional Canarian tapas places and a couple of (pretty quiet!) ex-pat 'pubs', a large new supermarket, a good bakery/patisserie (currently in French ownership), a bank with ATM, as well as several general/souvenir places. The village is alos home to an increasing number of individual craft shops and artists working in various media.
In other words, most of your everyday needs can be catered for locally. The nearest petrol station is, however, about 15 minutes drive away at La Oliva, and the next nearest in Corralejo. Petrol prices in the Canaries are much lower than in the rest of Europe, so don’t get caught out – fill up when you’re passing.
Regular bus services also link El Cotillo with both Corralejo and Puerto del Rosario but, given the secluded location of the apartment, a hire car is really recommended and as with petrol, car hire prices are competitive compared to mainland Europe.
El Cotillo has some of the best beaches in the Canaries, including a vast stretch of sand on the so-called 'Big Wave Beach' to the south of the village and a whole series of beautiful, small, sheltered coves with brilliant white sand and clear turquoise sea to the north around El Caleton. These are divided from each other and protected from the waves of the open sea by lava stone reefs and thus provide safe bathing, even for little ones. Please note that naturism is very popular along this stretch of coast and you must expect to see naked bodies on most stretches of beach.
El Cotillo has fast road connections to the island network, making a shopping trip to the capital (40 minutes) or an evening in Corralejo (20 minutes) popular excursions. The dramatic central mountains, with historic villages such as Antigua, Betancuria, Pajara or Tefia, with their museums and craft centres, are all under an hour by car. Likewise Caleta de Fuste and its golf courses. Other possible excursions include a trip to the island of Lobos from Corralejo, or take the ferry over to Lanzarote for the day (hourly departures, also from Corralejo.)
Recreational activities available nearby include walking (we are directly on the much-recommended north coast Corralejo-Cotillo walk), cycling (hire in El Cotillo), fishing, surfing, windsurfing (surf centres in Cotillo whilst nearby Lajares with its surf shops and surf schools is Fuerte's 'surfing capital'), diving (dive centre in Corralejo) and of course, swimming and snorkeling straight from the door.
In general, Fuerte will appeal above all to those who love beaches – the island's are easily the best in the Canaries and some of them are truly world-class. So if you’re a sun-worshipper or a beachcomber, a keen windsurfer or snorkeller, this is the place for you. Everyone talks about the wind, and yes, it can be breezy here, but the key thing is the sun. Fuerte has longer sunshine hours on average than Tenerife or Gran Canaria and only a fraction of their average rainfall. Those in search of peace and quiet, something which can now be hard to find on the more developed westerly Canary Islands, will also love Fuerte. It’s a big place (nearly the size of Tenerife) but with a small population. The roads are well-built but very quiet, making hiring a car a pleasure, and you can really escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life, be it on a deserted white beach or in the stark, striking mountains of the interior, which have a beauty all of their own.

We were really impressed with the apartment from the moment we arrived! Spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished and the location..........what can you say! Possibly the most relaxing holiday my wife and I have ever had and can't wait to come back again. We are both fairly well travelled and some of the beaches we have spent time on, particularly in the Far East , I thought would never be beaten - wrong - the beaches around El Cotillo are stunning, not least the one literally right on the doorstep!
The local restaurants are terrific, particularly Aruzzo(??) right across the road, but we also ate in the apartment a couple of evenings, preparing a meal there was very simple with all of the equipment provided, and we ate on the terrace enjoying the cats, the small black one with white socks particularly and the hedgehogs of course!!
My only complaint was that we had to leave - we will be back next year!
We had a great week . The beaches are a good find for children, gentle waves and on the level. We did some snorkelling which added something special to our stay. As stated naturist part of the beach but by no means compulsory!
Down side was the public campsite on the doorstep. We were there over Easter so that involved two days public holidays so very busy on those nights and noisy into the evening.
Overall fantastic location, apartment had all we needed. Certainly a place to return to.
My friend and I think it was one of the most peaceful and relaxing property we ever stayed in anywhere on any of our holidays abroad.
We loved the secluded accommodation, and all though we had a car we didnt venture out much.
My6 friend swam every day,and when the tide was out in the bay he walked around to the next one beach and swam from there instead.
We both thought the flat was out of this world, the only draw back for me personally were the cats,I am allergic to them....
But so long as I wore my cat spray I was OK.
The weather perfect and we hope to holiday there again next year...
Please forward my comments to the owner of the property, for a perfect stay.

We enjoyed our holiday in Fuerte and loved the location of the apartement (unfortunately so did 30+ camper vans during August and being parked/ camped out right up to the side wall they sounded like they were in bed with us some nights !)
Adrian and Ava were friendly and fab and dealt with any queries we had very efficiently, they ought to be commended.
Some pointers we would like to make for making the experience better for others would be:
-unchain the sun loungers permanently as they do need to be moved to the shade often
-replace the formica round the cooker / sink, it is mouldy in one place and losing its coating on another
-fridge needs to be replaced as the door seal is completely shot and thus not keeping stuff as cool as it should - a health and safety issue, as we had lemons, prawns, 2 lots of milk and meat all go off while kept in the fridge. Also there is only 1 shelf in the door giving hardly any storage room for cooling bottles/ juices etc..
-a fan would be handy as it gets very hot at night
-let renters know when Ava is coming to clean as we were in the middle of getting up/ breakfasting when she arrived to clean one day, so we had to decamp outside to get out of her way
we had some other issues that needed addressing during our stay
-safe was not working for first week, it was reset in week 2
-no power/ water one day -water pump being driven by electricity in our apartement
-no internet for a week and then it was intermittent when it came on (critical for teenagers !)
Overall a great location on the beach by a lovely, mainly rocky lagoon but some of the furnishings etc.. need upgrading.
Corralejo Buggies off road beach buggies / Volcano Express tour of Lanzarote and Acua bar on Corralejo seafront were all fab. Bagus for burgers in Cotillo and the French El Goloso bakery great for ice cream and pastries, fish good at Marisma by the old harbour and Sottovento Italian good but no pizza!
Thank you for letting us stay in your property
we arrived after a late flight due to our lovely friends, the french air traffic,i myself had internet problem before we left uk so i did not have the door codes, i emailed owners direct while at the villa and a quick reply allowed us to get on with our holiday, the setting is great but we never in seven nights saw the cleaner or the manager of the property hence we had the towels washed through by the laundrette(dawn),which is in town and we have met her before, now saying that the property in right on a naturist beach we were instructed in the villas book and info that we were not to be naked on or near the place, strange, as for one the beach(naturists),its really hot and no clothes is prefered, the boundary wall could do with being raised to give more privacy as the car park was full of camper vans and they used the wall as a backdrop for there area, still we only slept in the villa so it was not that bad, tooo much to do and visit, the beaches of the island are second to none, every one of them, tip, hire a car online before travel and tour,at a nice pace its three hours to traverse the island, enjoy lunch somewhere and go to a beach,we really love the people of cottillo, a laid back life and yet such vibrant fun to be with,my wife loved the resident hedgehogs living onsite, and the cats, they are rare in the uk now so it made a change, this is our third time to cottillo now and it wont be the last, but i think my wife will most likely tell me to stay at another place.
Clean and nice house, well equipped and amazing location at a lagoon. Nice south-west orientated sun terrace and beautiful garden.
