La Chaumière: Private Heated Pool, Spa, Sauna & Pizza Oven

Overview

Property

Updated: 05-Dec-2016
Farmhouse in Villetoureix, Riberac, Dordogne, France - Peaceful Location in the Dordogne countryside, 3 miles from town

Relax in the large private & heated swimming pool, complete with two sun terraces. The pool measures 12m x 6m - 40ft x 20ft, which is almost 50% larger than a 10 x 5m pool. The coloured lighting makes a night-time swim a superb experience. There are security fences & gates to prevent children from entering the pool area without an adult, to avoid accidents. The solar heating and insulated cover mean this property is ideal for holidays early or late in the season, as the pool heats up quickly in spring and maintains the heat later in the season, losing very little heat at night. The pool is for your exclusive use only. Take advantage of the spa for a touch of luxury on your holiday. It is situated in the summerhouse with heating for the cooler months, sheltered from sun or rain. Experience the traditional wood-fired sauna, and accompanying massage room. You can book a massage with a fully qualified professional, with a large choice of different massages. The spa, sauna and massage room are available all year round, making this property ideal for renting at any time of the year. For the more energetic there is the games field for table-tennis, badminton, volleyball, football etc, as well as a nature area, very popular with young children, for picnics close to the house. The wood-fired pizza oven is perfect for budding chefs, where everyone can have a go at preparing and baking their own pizza. La Chaumière is a charming property, which has been renovated to include all comforts, whilst retaining the original features of the farmhouse , such as stone fireplace, oak beams, exposed stonework etc. The wood-burning stoves in the kitchen and lounge make this property ideal for holidays in spring, autumn and winter. (Wood is available at cost price.) The fully renovated kitchen, overlooking the pool and valley, is well equipped including Bosch dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, Bosch multi-function oven, fridge freezer, Krups filter coffee-maker etc. The lounge, with a lovely view of the pool and surrounding valley, has comfortable seating together with a Toshiba LCD 66cm screen, Blu-ray DVD player, hi-fi and free wi-fi internet access. The bedroom has a king size 160cm/5'3” wide double bed. All bedlinen is provided, as well as towels for showering and pool/spa, so ideal if you are travelling by plane or train, or simply don't have enough room in the car. Outside you can eat together on the shaded terrace, complete with barbecue, looking out onto the large garden with walnut, hazelnut and cherry trees. The large fenced garden means it is ideal for dogs, playing badminton etc or simply lounging about. La Chaumière is ideally situated in the quiet of the countryside, yet close to town, 5 minutes away by car, for shopping, cafés, restaurants and also doctors, pharmacies etc Daily baguettes are available from the village shop, 2 minutes away by car; there is also a charming popular bar / restaurant in the village, 20 minutes on foot. There are plenty of places to visit nearby: caves, chateaux, charming villages etc The area is ideal for walking and cycling, with many footpaths and bike routes nearby. Horse-riding and tennis are available in the village, only 2 minutes away by car. Canoeing and fishing are available in the town, only 5 minutes away by car. La Chaumière is perfect for a quiet relaxing holiday in the countryside and for visiting the Dordogne.

Reviews:

Pleasant holiday:

We had a wonderful week at La Petite Renaudie. Lesley and John are the perfect hosts. Everything was clean and worked well. We loved the pool and spa with views and the electronics. The recommended restaurant is very good. We recommend La Petite Renaudie for a quiet holiday in the green countryside, with children or adolescents, as well as for adults without children. This is a good place to visit historical monuments in the region (eg Aubeterre, Brantome, Perigueux). (Dieter M Munchen)

Very pleasant stay in a beautiful area!

We spent a wonderful week at La petite Renaudie, even if the weather was not very good every day! The Cottage is fully functional, the terrace well appreciated. The area is super quiet, it's great, and there is so much to do in the area! Without going very far, we did canoeing, vélorail, climbed trees, swam in the lake, visited beautiful places (Aubeterre Brantome ...) :-) ate and drank in very good restaurants (special mention for the "Grain de Sel" in Périgueux)! What a pleasure to take a dip in the pool or splash in the spa after our busy days! I highly recommend this place ... Thank you Lesley and John! (Myriam, Paris, France)

Contact with the owner very friendly and everything correct (contract, payment terms) description agrees with reality, sanitary and kitchen all newly adapted, very clean and well maintained, even around the outside, very quiet location, recommended for couples, with pool, large garden with leisure opportunities, access to the pool well-protected! Some biking and hiking trails in the area, in the accommodation valuable tips for excursions. I would recommend it to my friends. (Othmar, Austria)

Superb summer!

I came quite by chance on this lovely location, and I do not have any regrets, the description is very accurate, and the owners gave me very good advice on how to get there easily, they sent me regular emails to keep me up to date. The area is very quiet, relaxing, and very well maintained. The house is very neat, and above all very clean. The owners have really thought of everything, so that we felt at home. Yes, I would recommend this beautiful location to my friends at a price defying all the rest. The owners are discrete, and especially so kind, that if I have the opportunity to go on holiday next year, I'll be going back to La Petite Renaudie. There are beautiful places to visit, as well as lots to see and great restaurants in Périgueux. We have fond memories of our holiday, and travelling to get there is worth it! (Charlotte S 62 Pas de Calais France)

Revitalizing Stay:

The welcome is very warm and friendly. The owners are discreet but attentive to their guests. The holiday home is clean and ideal for two people. It is very quiet and ideal for relaxing and rejuvenation. The major advantage of this location is safe access to the spa, sauna and swimming pool. With pleasure we will go back to recharge our batteries. (Stephanie S. France)

A great week:

We had very good holiday! La Chaumière is perfectly equipped, Lesley and John very welcoming. It is a pleasure to discover the area and then enjoy the pool when you come back home. Pizza evening ***** We will return with pleasure. (Charlotte C. France)

La Chaumiere - an unforgettable holiday home:

We had a wonderful stay at La Chaumiere. The place is beautiful, located in a quiet hamlet away from traffic noise and with a superb view. The holiday home is very well equipped, very clean and has been tastefully restored. We especially appreciated the quality of the bedding. We also appreciated the warm welcome from the owners who are discreet whilst remaining attentive to the needs of their guests and do not hesitate to give advice. We took full advantage of the terrace under the lime tree, using the very functional barbecue for all our meals. Finally, such a successful holiday so that when you leave, there was emotion in the air including our daughter who was sad to leave "The Cottage" and it feels good and we'd like to return. (Marie-Hélène D. France)

A good holiday!

La Chaumiere has everything you could wish for for a good holiday. The beds are very comfortable, just like the sofa. Nothing is missing! Everything is very well maintained, very friendly owners, having thought of everything for our comfort. Large swimming pool, ping-pong, all in the quiet Dordogne region. The spa allows you to relax with a beautiful view of the countryside. Brantome and Bergerac are nearby as well as préhistorique caves. Some fermes-auberges to taste the local produce such as foie gras. Une bonne adresse! (pagaille lagny sur marne France)

Assured relaxation in this little paradise!

Very very good holiday at La Chaumière. The welcome of Lesley and John is impeccable, they are lovely people, smiling, available without being intrusive. La Chaumière is fully equipped, nothing is missing. The green areas are very well maintained, clean and the pool water stays a pleasant temperature with the solar heating and pool bubble cover and above all is very well secured. The spa is a moment of pure happiness and relaxation with stunning views of the flower garden and not overlooked! Many very different trips to do in the area (castles, churches, lakes, old towns etc). We'll definitely be going back to La Chaumière as here rest and relaxation are guaranteed. Lesley and John thank you :) (Laurence V. France)

Relaxing weekend:

Sadly the bad weather in April 2013 prevented us from enjoying the pool and terrace. On the other hand, during the low season or in case of bad weather, it is very nice to be in the sauna or spa. Regarding the exterior, I am a passionate gardener, I really want to return later in the season to enjoy the colours of the flower beds and the views over the vegetable garden. Lesley and John are discreet, attentive and you feel immediately at ease. (Anne-Marie q. France)

About the Owner

As we live in the hamlet, we are available to help you enjoy your holiday, so can help with advice on places to visit, restaurants, shopping, doctors etc, translation if required and of course emergencies. We are also around for pool and spa maintenance, building the fires for the sauna and pizza oven, gardening etc. For several years we "commuted" from the UK for DIY/renovation holidays (!) until we decided we preferred life in France and so moved permanently. We're sure you'll love it as much as we do..

We have stayed here several times now over the last ten years and I can safely say we have never been disappointed, the standards and facilities have continually risen over this period. The location is perfect, you get away from everything, but you are in striking distance of many attractions without the crowds and all that goes with it if you stay close to them. Riberac is close by for all your daily needs so there are no long drives to the supermarket and there is an excellent market on Friday mornings. The pool and house are beautifully maintained and fitted out, with all the character of the traditional buildings sympathetically retained . The owners were extremely helpful and obliging, but not intrusive. We can recommend this property highly and will definitely be going back as soon as possible. (Ed & Sue, Hampshire UK)

(siobhan uk )

We have been staying in La Chaumiere on quite a regular basis since 2003, which obviously speaks volumes. It is beautifully furnished, with every home comfort. what could be better than relaxing in the fantastic spa pool before watching the sun go down with a nice glass of wine? Quite simply, Heaven!! (Anne, Sussex, UK)

We stayed long term in April and May whilst house hunting in the area. Ideally located. A clean, comfortable and private cottage with use of a fantastic pool. We especially liked the terrace for a barbecue and eating outdoors. It's a beautiful authentic and quiet French country spot, yet still close to shops etc. Being a Dutch couple, we have to add: reasonably priced. The owners are friendly English people, live close by, are always helpful, but respect your privacy. We liked it very much.

(Sjors en Marga, Nijmegen, The Netherlands)

La Chaumière is a lovely place, very clean and with every comfort necessary for a great holiday in a quiet area. A nice little extra was the Pizza evening, where we could practise being pizzaiolos, good fun and enjoyable. (thierry, France)

Peaceful location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic holiday at La Chaumiere. John and Lesley are so friendly, helpful and welcoming. The accommodation is well equipped and comfortable and situated in a delightful hamlet, surrounded by lovely countryside. The pool is a lovely addition and great to relax around after a day out. The town of Riberac is only a few minutes away by car. It has a lovely vintage feel, but is well served by good supermarkets. Friday is market day-not to be missed. It is the largest in the Dordogne and has a lovely atmosphere. We visited many beautiful places and there is a wealth of information collated by John and Lesley for visitors use. The memories stay long after the holiday has finished!

Fantastic holiday

  • 5 of 5

Our second visit to La Chaumiere, which says it all, as don't usually visit a place twice, was fantastic. The cottage was welcoming and clean and just right for the 2 of us to spend a relaxing holiday in the sunshine. The owners, John and Lesley had thought of everything to make our holiday stress free and were attentive but not intrusive! We had a problem with our car and they assisted us in every way possible to get it sorted.

We shared 2 very entertaining pizza nights with other guests and if John ever decided to change careers would make an excellent pizza chef!

We would love to return in the future with our family and explore more. Thank you John and Lesley.

Stunning and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic time we had. The setting was so beautiful and relaxing and made for a really enjoyable stay with so many places to visit and things to do. Facilities were second to none and could not have asked for more. ''Pizza Night'' was a brilliant idea and we enjoyed a fab night with John and Lesley being so warm and hospitable. The cottage had great outdoor space and was ideal for our two dogs as they had a large area to roam which was fully fenced and secure. The cottage itself was clean and comfortable. Enjoyed our daily stroll into the village taking in the countryside to get our fresh baked bread. Would recommend to friends and family and will be returning soon.

Heaven!

  • 5 of 5

We have been staying in La Chaumiere on quite a regular basis since 2003, which obviously speaks volumes. It is the perfect hideaway, beautiful views, great accommodation and perfect hosts. La Chaumiere is beautifully furnished, with every home comfort. It would be very easy to while away the whole holiday sitting beside the magnificent pool, gazing out over the peaceful countryside but that would be a shame as the area has so much to offer, from interesting old towns such as Brantome and Aubterre sur Dronne to lovely villages where one can sit outside a cafe and just watch the world go by. Then, when you arrive back at La Chaumiere, what could be better than relaxing in the fantastic spa pool before watching the sun go down with a nice glass of wine? Quite simply, Heaven!!

Location

From the Owner

We chose the property because of its peaceful location in the countryside, yet conveniently close to town for shopping etc. Ribérac is a sleepy rural town for most of the week, so avoiding the crowds, yet comes alive on Friday morning for the market, which is the biggest in the Dordogne. There are plenty of tourist attractions to visit in the area, many within an hour's drive and open outside of July and August, when you can drag yourselves away from the pool! And of course you can't forget the views!

The pizza evening has been very popular with all our guests, with everyone having a go at baking their own pizza.
