Villa With Private Pool With Scenic Mountain And Sea Views

Updated: 23-Aug-2016
Villa in L'Ampolla, Costa Dorada, Spain - Tranquil And Secluded, A Place To Relax And Unwind

La Mariona is a private and secluded villa in The Costa Dorada, Spain situated in its own olive grove. The pool is large and totally private and as you get ready to dive in you can see the magnificent views of the Med and Ebro Delta. La Mariona is just 5KM from the sea and the nearby fishing village of L'Ampolla. The villa is also only 30 minutes away from the Port Adventura Universal studios theme park - ideal for kids. The beaches are blue flag and there are plenty of golf courses, fishing (especially carp/cat) and water sports on the magnificent River Ebre, which winds its way from to the sea through stunning scenery and historical sites. Take your choice - an action, sporty holiday - or a relaxing break in this place of historic heritage and natural beauty.

About the Owner

Hi my name is Ray Knowles and I live with my family near Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire. When I go on vacation I like to be able to pick and choose either a quiet relaxing time or something more exciting.

La Mariona allows me to do this.

Ive owned it since 2004 and my family and I split our time between sunbathing on the blue flag beaches or by the pool, eating seafood at the beach restaurants, golfing, watersporting, catfishing... and of course the kids love Port Adventura (theme park)

I went on holiday with family and friends and we chose La Mariona for its remote location, swimming pool and facilities provided in the villa.

When we arrived we were not disappointed, the villa was immaculate and spacious with all the home comforts of Sky TV, washing machine etc also provided were milk, bread and wine which were well received!

We ventured out quite a lot so 10mins away is the town L'ampolla where there are plenty of fantastic bars and restaurants and a supermarket to replenish the villa. We also visited the Isle of Budda where the guys embarked on fishing for catfish, Port Adventura for the kids to enjoy the theme/water parks and Cambrills Harbour for a delicious seafood experience - all are within reasonable driving distance.

A few nights we enjoyed a BBQ at the villa around the pool, again equipment provided and in excellent condition also as there are no neighbours to worry about we played music and enjoyed the evening till the early hours of the morning.

We all agreed we had a fantastic holiday and would love to come back again in the future.

Hello Ray

Yes, we had a lovely time and really enjoyed the quiet location, which enabled us to spend quality time (without intrusive technology) with our teenage boys. There were a few things that could have been improved upon, and I've commented on these in my review, which is below:

This nine bed villa offered more than ample space for a family of five. The villa was picked because it was very remote and we wanted a quiet, no WiFi, location, which is exactly what we got. We stayed for two weeks. Advantages: remote (10 minute drive from L'Ampolla); quiet and secluded. This seclusion enabled us to play music by the pool in the evenings without disturbing anyone. Although there were many benefits to the location, we found it got very hot in the bedrooms so had to open the windows to get some cooling air, but unfortunately, this meant we could hear dogs howling in the night, and the few infrequent cars driving by late at night or early in the morning. A few small fans were provided but were insufficient to generate any cooling air. In the day time, to access the breeze, the downstairs windows were opened but since they had no screens, flies flew in. The kitchen was well equipped but some of the utensils needed updating, as they have been melted (for example the plastic spatulas). There was an ant presence in the kitchen which meant that the work surface needed to be meticulously cleaned. Of course, this is a hot climate so insects will always be an issue but the abundance of wasps around the pool sometimes spoiled our enjoyment of the location. It would have been nice to have had a pool net to collect the drowned insects. The town of L'Ampolla was lovely and provided fantastic cliff and beach walks. The restaurants were good and there was an excellent ice-cream/frozen yoghurt shop. There were a lot of wonderful coves along the coast. There was a fantastic supermarket (Mercado) in L'Ametlla de Mar (about a 15 minute drive away) but also there was a well equipped Spar in L'Ampolla for all the essentials. As we arrived in L'Ampolla at night, it was very difficult to find the villa because of its remoteness, although the owner had provided a description of the route and there was a map on the website. It is well worth exploring the route (maps etc) before arrival.

I hope you find my review helpful, and once again, thank you for the opportunity to stay in your villa.

I just love Catalyuna. The people are friendly. The beaches are great and its not too busy or overcrowded. The villa is about 3KM from the sea and there is a wonderful choice of dining facilities and sunbathing options. Whatsmore Barcelona is only an hour away by train, Port Adventura about 30 mins and the airport about 25 mins away (Reus)

From the Owner

La Mariona stands in its own olive grove. So if you don't want to be overlooked by the neighbours, swim in your own private swimming pool, make a BBQ without drawing a crowd - yet be just a few minutes from the beach, 30 mins from Port Adventura and about 20 from the nightlife of Salou - this is the place for you

  • Outside: From the poolside there are great views of the Mediterranean - on a clear day its possible to see Majorca in the distance. There a 8 loungers by the pool which is somewhat of a sun trap. Shade is available under the roof of the pool room which is a good place to have meals. A BBQ is provided and fresh fish is available from L'Ampolla which is great to cook for the family. The pool is large but isn't heated - it really doesn't need to be and you'll be grateful it isn't when you plunge in to get some respite from the sun. There's an outdoor shower and the villa and grounds are totally secluded within 4 acres of its own olive grove. At the front of the villa are mountains - for great walks if you're feeling energetic. The road is the old Roman St Augustine road to Tarragona - rarely used these days. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: The villa is professionally cleaned at the start and end of each guests stay. Additional cleaning can be arranged with an extra charge. Clean towels and linens are available to guest for use within the Villa. Other: The pool room houses a washing machine and clothes airer.
