Our lovingly renovated 200 year old cottages are situated in the peaceful, rural village of Hilton. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Hilton sits amidst some of Dorset's most striking countryside, with the slopes of Bulbarrow Hill (height 274m) to the north, the Dorset Gap to the south-west and Milton Abbey to the east.

Rambler's and Kitty's Cottages are centred in a small row of terraced cottages, built in 1812, to house workers at Milton Abbey, which is approximately a 1 mile walk away. The characterful cottages retain many original features, including beams and fire places.

The cottages are located on a quiet no through road, with beautiful meadow views to the rear and the 15th century All Saints church a one minute walk away.

The Fox Inn, a traditional 250 year old pub, can be reached by a 1.5 mile hill walk ( longer routes are possible for a bigger challenge) or a 2 minute drive. There are an abundance of public footpaths and bridleways criss-crossing the country-side, with walks straight from the door ( provided in a folder). Alternatively the cottages provide an ideal base for exploring Hardy country or the World Heritage Jurassic coast (30 to 40 minutes drive).

You can visit local market towns e.g Dorchester, Blandford Forum and Sherborne, or sea-side towns of Swanage and Weymouth, or historical sites such as Corfe Castle, Hardy's cottage, Athelhampton house, Kingston Lacey, Kingston Mauward, Rawlsbury Camp, Maiden Castle and much much more.

Both adjacent cottages could be booked together, if you have a larger gathering in mind.

We have lived in the Village since 2000 (raising our 3 sons here) and are still in love with its amazing peace and beauty. We hope you'll love it too.

Cosy Grade II listed cottage with heaps of original features and character. It was renovated to a high standard in 2014.

Kitchen & living area (ground floor): open plan with a stone floor & underfloor heating, wood burning stove, breakfast bar with x 4 stools, comfy seating for x4, TV, selection of films and board games. The newly fitted kitchen has an electric cooker, hob, fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery, cooking utensils and cooking equipment.

Bathroom: Travertine stone tiled bathroom with a bath, shower, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail.

Bedroom 1 (attic): Dual aspect room with a kingsize bed, bedside tables and lamps, chest of drawers, rocking chair, little chair, table, clock radio, hangers and hairdryer.

Bedroom 2 (1st floor): x2 full size twin beds, bedside tables, lamps and chest of drawers.

The latest (programmable) storage heaters have been installed in both bedrooms, ensuring a warm, cosy stay whatever the time of year you choose to visit.

About the Owner

We are Christine and Jonathan Dodd and we are lucky to live in Hilton, Dorset, with our 3 sons and an idiotic, friendly dog called Dexter, who survived a fall of 125ft from 'Old Harry' in 2008...much to our huge relief!

Ever since we moved into Hilton village we dreamed about investing in a property to holiday let. It took us 14 years to get there - but we did it! We look forward to sharing our lovely cottages, friendly village and stunning countryside with our guests.

We spent 2014 renovating our cottages to what we hope our guests will think is a high standard. We are a short walk away from the cottages so we are around if you need anything or want some advice on the local area. Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Jon and Christine were very friendly and made us feel really welcome. They have done a lovely job renovating the cottage. It is as nice as in the photos. It was very cosy and well equipped. Hilton is a perfect country village. Very scenic and really quiet. The surrounding countryside is amazing, really fabulous walks. It was brilliant to be able to go on walks right from the doorstep. There are farm shops and good pubs within a mile or so. We had a brilliant time and I would recommend Rambler's Cottage and Hilton very highly and would definitely go again.

Beautiful Cottage in the heart of Dorset

My wife and I, and our little Dachshund were greeted by Jonathan upon arrival. Christine was kind enough to leave us a freshly baked Lemon drizzle cake which I must say, was absolutely delicious.

The cottage was very comfortable and spotlessly clean with all needs met. There is a lovely wood burning fireplace for the cooler nights and a very nice large bedroom on the top floor as well as two single beds in the bedroom on the first floor.

Rambler's Cottage lies in the heart of Dorset making trips to places within the county very easy in all directions. It is only about 40 minutes to Weymouth, Lulworth Cove and withing easy reach of Lyme Regis, West Bay and Charmouth.

I highly recommend Rambler's cottage to anyone wanting a comfortable place to stay in the heart of Dorset.

Well presented and equipped period cottage

Rambler's is a nice modernized terraced cottage, which we found to be cosy and well equipped. There are lots of nice walks from the front door, it is ideal dog walking territory. The Fox Inn at Ansty does a nice cavery on a Sunday and welcomes dogs. Jonathan the owner lives down the road and made sure we settled in OK and had no issues - thanks also for cake, it was very nice. If you are looking for a relaxing stay in beautiful Dorset this is ideal for up to 4 people.

Perfect location

Perfect get away for a couple of days with our son aged 10 was welcomed by Jonathan the owner and a delicious home made lemon drizzle cake was waiting for us ! Cottage was perfect, home from home ... Went on one of the recommended walks and found a gorgeous pub. Would definitely recommend and thank you Jonathan for your warm welcome .. We will be back !

An absolute gem

We stayed at the wonderfully appointed Rambler's Cottage in the charming hamlet of Hilton. The cottage is newly refurbished and decorated with extras such as woodburning stove and underfloor heating under flagged floors. The modern kitchen area and fantastic bathroom meant that it was so warm and comfortable, whilst at the same time being a period cottage. There was lots of information provided on everything from local walks to pubs and areas of interest. The welcome cake provided by friendly owners was a nice touch and much appreciated. An absolute gem!

So peaceful

we stayed here in 2014 before the property had 'gone live' on Owners Direct. We loved it, it is the most peaceful location possible, nestled in a beautiful valley with wonderful walks from the front door. Christine and Jonathan looked after us fantastically, we look forward to returning!

From the Owner

We have lived in the village since 2000 and still love it to pieces. We love the staggering beauty of the village and surrounding area which is fantastic for walking, running (as Jonathan likes to do) and cycling. Hilton is a truly rural location, as far as you can get from an 'A' road, anywhere in Dorset, situated between the market towns of Blandford Forum and Dorchester We think we have the best of both worlds; the wild rural retreat but within 25 minutes of the spectacular Jurassic Coast. Our sons adore the open fields and woodland that surrounds us - often disappearing for hours on end making dens and the like.

Green Hill Nature Reserve is a walk away up Hilton Hill. Badgers, deer, foxes and buzzards are a regular sighting. Wonderful bluebells in surrounding woods in May. Glow worms can be seen in summer months and there is a wonderful selection of butterflies to view. From the woods owls and woodpeckers can often be heard. We have also seen a kingfisher and a water vole along "Devil's Brook", the stream running through Hilton down to Milton Abbey Lake.

Horse riding is available at Pound Cottage riding Centre 3 miles away.

The World Heritage Jurassic coast is from 20 miles away, with a variety of beaches to visit, fossils to find and the ghost village of Tyneham to explore.

A favourite trip for all ages is the steam train journey from Norden to Swanage or the walk is stunning in either direction.

There is no end of sights to see and places to visit whatever the weather.

Warm, cosy, characterful cottages set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Ideally situated for exploring the whole of Dorset. The cottages are over 200 years old but both have been lovingly renovated with all modern conveniences including modern heating, wood burning stoves and lovely bathrooms (with bath and shower). The cottages have lovely meadow views to the rear and a 15C church less than a minutes walk away. Lovely walks and cycle rides straight from the doorstep for all abilities and the spectacular Milton Abbey is at the end of the valley, just a mile away.
