About Ian

We bought Briar cottage in 2014 as we both love the North Yorkshire coast, having many holidays here over the years. Mark currently lives in South Yorkshire and Ian in County Durham. We spend as much time as we can here, but are very happy to share it.

Ian purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Ian chose Yorkshire Moors and Coast

We chose Briar cottage because we wanted a holiday home near to the sea. It is only a few minutes from the local resorts. It also gives us the cosiness of a country cottage within a village setting.

What makes this cottage unique

Briar cottage is a character property by the sea, with a modern rustic interior and cottage garden.

Cute cosy cottage

  • 5 of 5

Briar Cottage is a cosy cottage that has been sympathetically decorated throughout. The location near Filey is quiet but also close to all the local attractions. Staircase is very steep so not suitable for the infirm but we had no problems. The living room is perfect for evenings in and the kitchen is well stocked with all the appliances needed - dining times are compact! The back garden is small but well proportioned and great for a couple of small pooches to pop into when needed. Scarborough, Bridlington & Filey are all easily reached. If travelling to Whitby plan a country route away from Scarborough to avoid the traffic through town. The Sky TV and wi-fi were great for travelling teenagers whilst parents popped to the pub - a great holiday.

Great little Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our time in Gristhorpe very much. The cottage is very well maintained and in overall excellent condition. It is situated in a quiet little village within a 1 minute walk of the very friendly Bull Inn (Excellent meals), It is perfectly situated for visiting the coastal towns in the area and also for heading inland. Overall we had a great time.

Nice cottage. Well decorated with lovely local pictures.

  • 4 of 5

Easy to book and owners quick to reply with any queries. Well equipped with everything you would need. We felt the bathroom let the cottage down so that's why we have given 4 stars. Due to unforeseen circumstances we could not use the wood burner (the owner did contact us to let us know) which was a shame as we picked a week which was very cold for the time of year. Very clean with a comfortable bed which is important to us. Local pub good with friendly staff. Good local beaches and dog friendly. Overall we were happy with the cottage and would recommend to family and friends.

Beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with a teenager, a 7yr old and our dog Gus. The cottage itself is like a Tardis and is very well decorated and homely.

The communication was excellent and I cannot recommend this place enough. Nice and quiet but with everything close by. The local pub was very friendly (and dog) and great with our 7yr old who has disabilities. Food is ace just don't order the large Sunday Lunch unless you have a massive appetite!!!

Thanks for a great stay!

Beautiful, comfortable cottage!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our whole experience from booking to staying at Briar cottage was excellent! The owners were really helpful and quick to respond to questions. The accommodation is decorated and presented to an extremely high standard, we loved it. The location is great, with Filey close by and many lovely beaches, Cayton bay was our favourite. We also had a brilliant day at Bempton cliffs viewing the Puffins. I would recommend this cottage to friends and family, without doubt.
